Whitehead is the best player on the field. He just kills people
When he runs the football. Big. Strong, and fast. Should of
Got 30 touches. Maybe a couple passes to the 6'4 tightens
Harlan has would been nice. I wanted Harlan to win so badly.
You guys had a great year but from watching you on tv, you
Had the physically superior team.

Harlan deffinately had the bigger team, but as far as physically superior, I'd have to say both were pretty equal in that department. If Cooper was much less physical they wouldn't of won that type of game. You have to be pretty physical to stop a great running team like Harlan.

Will this be Coach Larkey last year?
Many are saying that he will retire after this season.

Interesting Stats from this Game....
Pull the 75 yard pass play out of Coopers Stat (after a 3rd and 19 I might add) and insert the Massey 9 yard score on the illegal formation into HC's and this game looks much different. Fact is the little things change outcomes of games. I give nothing but credit to Cooper and HC.

Whitehead had about 5 yards a carry. I think he would eventually wore down Cooper. Whitehead is a downhill runner and you could just look at the Cooper kids when they got up. They were like "DAMM" what was that. Whitehead needs to be the feature back next year and stop spreading out the wealth so much. Give the boy 25 carries a game if he can handle it. Put in some pass plays. I love Harlan County, always have, always will. Great year guys, should of been in the finals but the best team doesnt always come out on top. And I give Cooper credit, they hung in there and pulled out the W.

^ Sorry, but the best team DID win. It's fair that you say that HC did not do everything they were capable of. Well, neither did Cooper! Cooper is a very dynamic team that had the factor of a long bus drive that took their legs out of them. Thus, both teams played it with their shortcomings, with that said, the better team is representing in the finals.
Let's not make excuses or say one team missed out on playing to their fullest potential. That's a knock on Cooper, and completely unfair to what both of these teams accomplished, but if we want to play could'a / should'a, we could do this all day!

Ok, it is sad to now read posts like this, sour grapes etc. when there were so many great Harlan fans who deserve to be acknowledged about the great attitudes they showed cooper fans before, during and after the game. No excuses were used, just two fan bases knowing they were two very good teams.
Now excuses are coming out and you having the gall to say the best team did not win. You didn't hear any Cooper fan saying before the game the fact that numerous of our starters were playing sick did you? Our rb's were throwing up with the flu as they got on the bus for the long ride down, our QB also under the weather as well as our best defenseman who was sick all week long, so don't give us excuses etc. you want to go that route then be thankful Cooper wasn't playing at 100% or close to it or it may have been even worse.
Now for all the other Harlan fans, I will repeat what I said earlier, you all were awesome and great hosts for a great game. I wish every place we travel we're as great as you all have been.
This post season we have been blessed with some great fans everywhere we've played. You all were awesome and I wish you all the best next year etc.
For those that choose to make excuses, please don't stoop to that level, every team can make excuses and it isn't very fitting.

So if that is the case lets also put back in the long play which would of gave Cooper another TD but was called back due to a penalty. See we can play that game all day long.

I don't where The_Rock is from, but he may not even be a Harlan Countian or Harlan County Fan. If you'll notice, he's trashed HC pretty well. Did you think that instead of making excuses FOR them that he's just trashing them and arguing with you too?
You're pretty sensitive and defensive. To tell the truth, The_Rock looks like he is more of a Perry County Central Fan than anything.

Could be, I thought he was a Harlan fan and I hated to see a fan from any of the 2 schools resort to excuses.
I'm not overly sensitive, I just think the game played out itself and both teams and fanbases should be proud of their teams. I don't like when excuses are used.
Both fan bases really got along great and i just didn't want to see it tarnished by posts like that is all.

I can recall a time in the past when I was too quick on the trigger and ended up being the one who kind of tarnished things after I unleashed on a troublemaker (troll) who wasn't even part of either side.

I was going by this statement he made
"I love Harlan County, always have, always will."
That is what lead me to believe he was a Harlan fan.

3 times in one sentence, YOU, not we. And he apparently didn't know what the team looked like until he watched that game on TV.
Also, look back through his posting for the season and see what you think.
Some trolls are very good at stirring up poopy all around.

Here's a part of a post by The Rock on 10-31-2012 in a basketball thread: "Inez does have a Recreation Center that is 10 times better than ANYTHING in Perry County. They at least have something for KIDS to do over there. We got a whooping skateboard park in Perry County......"

Looks like you kind of tarnished relations with Harlan County yourself. Maybe that wasn't your intention, but you argued with a troll on a Harlan County thread against Harlan County and put them in a bad light. They were innocent. You may want to try and mend the fence.

The Harlan Co fans know how much I respect them, I've said it numerous times in numerous posts. The post I quoted from the troll was directed at him, not the fanbase.

In my opinion the keys to the game were:
(1) The Copper coaching staff adjusted their defense to put bigger kids in the box after HC blew Copper off the line if scrimmage during their first drive of the game.
(2) A ball control running power football team has a tough time coming back when down by more than one score. It's difficult to score quickly and in bunches going 3-7 yards at a time. In my mind it's like a basketball team that plays primarily zone defense. When they get behind by 7 points late in the game and are forced to play man-to-man they have a hard time. See the 1984 Kentucky-Georgetown final 4 game for an example.
(3) If HC would have scored in the 3rd Q when the motion penalty was called, it may have been a down to the wire game.

OK, I am getting my life back together after the loss Friday and I am able to talk a little about it. First off, I want to congrats to Cooper, they have traveled all through the playoffs and are in the State Championship, very impressive. Good luck from the Black Bear Nation and we hope you win it all.
Now for our boys. WOW, what a year!!! We were not expected to make it this far this year. These seniors have really set the bar high for future teams. I want to thank our boys. You gave us hope, you gave us something to look forward to. With the economy going in a downward spriral here in Harlan County with the coal mines you gave us something to get away from the real life and come together as a county and enjoy a Friday night football game. Good luck to all seniors in the future and as for the boys coming back, well, I can't wait to gather together as a county and watch the Black Bears continue the success that we have had in the 5 years that we have ALL been BLACK BEARS!!!!

Boys boys boys...I could list several pages of reasons/excuses why this team did this or this team did that. Ancient history!! Bottom line is we LOVE our Black Bears and the fan base at Cooper LOVE their Jaguars!! Nothing wrong with either. Last Friday night, as badly as I wanted HC to win, they didn't. Simple as that. I met several Jag fans and a Coach by the name of Bob Burnette. Some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met! If we had to lose, I'm glad it was to a team as CLASSY as Cooper.
Now, I hope Cooper goes to Bowling Green and beats the hell out of them!!!
Basketball season for us now, then prepping for another wonderful year of football!!
MtnHSFootballFan, I love you for defending us; I won't ever forget that either!! Thank you.

The first time I met him in person was last year when my boy was a sophomore playing on the team. It turns out he and his wife are close friends with my step mom. Small world and all, but he is great and is one of the smartest coaches you will meet. Coached at Beechwood for years. Great guy all the way around.
When he finally hangs up his coaching shoes, he will be sorely missed.
11-27-2012, 10:47 AM
I have watched Harlan County play 4 times this year. Once in person and 3 times on TV. It doesnt take a genius to realize that Carson Whitehead is the best player on Harlan County's team. Say I am a troll or whatever. Its just the truth. The boy should of got the ball more, plain and simple. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Yeah I know. You got a guy 6'1-225 that runs a 4.7 or 4.8 that is strong as a bull, you run him all you can.

Congrats to Cooper on the win and good luck in Bowling Green.
Black Bears, you had one heck of a season. Nothing to hang your heads about thats for sure.
I know you have one of the best fan bases on BGR. Lots of support for you guys.
Good luck next season. Its not over, its only beginning again. Hit them weights hard and get ready for it all over again.
Black Bear Mama's its been nice following your guys post all year. You gals are a class act.
