Boyle County 14 Russell County 6
#31
Next year......... They lose everybody , it going to be a long year for old Russell next year
#32
Not true, next years team should win 7 maybe 8 games because this years Jr. class is strong too. Blake Ellis will line up in the backfield with Evan Fletcher and have a strong dose of spread option.

I'm a little surprised the Lakers never used the wildcat last night, they've had it in their back pocket and there were plenty of chances to catch Boyle off guard with it.
#33
I had little doubt that Boyle County would defeat Russell County Friday night. I was somewhat surprised that Russell was able to hold Boyle to 14 points. Russell has nothing to hang their heads over - they simply met a better team. Boyle should go far this year.
#34
First of all Russell suprised me with thier defense,i will have to say it was probably the best defense Boyle has faced this year, and the Britt kid has got some wheels he's as fast as any back Boyle has seen this year,IMO he's got more speed than the kid from Lex Cath, and as fast as anybody i remember Highlands having.with that being said i didn't see anyone else on the field for Russell with that kind of speed.if Boyle had missed any tackles Britt would've made them pay,but they were able to contain him about all night.i think Boyle had a very conservitive game plan last night they kept things pretty simple on offense.it was a great high school football game i really enjoyed it.to all you Highlands, and Lex cath fans just because this was a close game don't think that Boyle's that weak,it's plan and simple Russell co has got one hell of a defense.

Is Russell County's team sideline usually on the far side of the field from the stands?
#36
Yes, it has been for years because there's less distraction on that side.

They didn't get to show it last night but Ellis and Fletcher are just as fast as Britt, they just don't have the acceleration and field vision he does.
#37
There's almost always less distraction on the far side of the field at any stadium, yet the vast majority of teams put the visitors over there.

Ellis is a JR, and will likely be next season's QB. The Lakers return several high quality players, but will loose too much to be nearly as good as they were this season.

You simply do not replace a RB the quality of Nick Britt. He is the kind of kid that comes around once every 20 years in a small area like RC. He made the team, the staff, and the program twice as good as it would be without him. He changed the game just by being on the field and will be severely missed by the team, staff and fans.

When you couple that with the loss that we will have from the line and kicking game, it will be an uphill battle once again. We will still have some quality skill players, but it takes 11 on each side to make a full team. The Lakers will be short a few in that respect.

Congrats to the Rebels! Work hard to win the Regional next week against the Knights.

Sounds like Russell County has a fine team. Nothing to hang their heads about.

Maybe their fans do a little boasting without all the data but isn't that what fans are for?

Let's go Rebels!

Maybe other teams should move away from the distractions then. The vast majority teams also don't have a combined baseball and football field either, I'm sure Coach Rexroat appreciates other teams not messing around on his field too.

One final, and personal note.

Last night was rather ironic IMO.

Russell County's only loss in a stellar season was to Boyle County.

33 years ago, Boyle's only loss in a stellar 9-1 season was to Russell County.

The difference was this year was in the playoffs. That year it kept us from the playoffs.

I guess I would call it Karma-lite.

LOSERS QUIT WHEN THEY'RE TIRED, WINNERS QUIT WHEN THEY HAVE WON

Russell's defense very much impressed me last night. They were able to put several guys in the box to stop the run, and at the same time their secondary was still able to have great coverage and force some bad passes. But it seemed like they just got worn out in the fourth quarter, and that led to a long Boyle scoring drive late.

Unfortunately for them, Boyle's D was even more impressive. They bent but didn't break all night. If not for an interception in BC territory (a very good play by the DB), Russell would have been shut out. I mean holding Britt to 68 rush yards all game is outstanding. He just never could quite get around the edge, and found almost no holes up the middle.

Boyle's offense will have to be better next week, but if their defense plays like that they will be in position to win no matter what.

Great game by both teams

great win for boyle county but until they drop down to 3a ft thomas is going to end they're season every year

Somebody has to set the bar. Boyle did it for years. Think about all the folks in 6a.

Or....since FTH is the school with the smallest enrollment in 4a (however the khsaa does it) and Lex Cath with 2 kids more are right above them, then maybe FTH will have to go to 3a to allow a different team a chance to grab a ring. I maybe off on the 2 students between them but they were the lowest 2 schools in 4a...........naaah, that doesn't sound right either. IMO the khsaa should of let them stay in 5a so they could get a challange anyway..I never really appreciated how special our 2005 team was when i watched them beat Highlands in the regional finals at Highlands on their way to beating Bowling Green in the state finals........aaahhh....the good ole days.

You should be put in the class your suppose to be in period. No play ups, no play downs.
Stick by the enrollment, period.

I agree I look forward to the day we beat fth. Its coming boyle took over all the feeder programs its no longer run by the rec dept. But yes play in your own class.

I agree no downs but why is it essential to you that a 4a football team cant play up to 5a in order to play better and bigger programs (not specifically speaking about any team). You are entitled to your own opinion but i"m just wondering what your veiws are.

We'll see next week if lexington Catholic can beat Boyle. I don't think they can!

Hate to burst your bubble, but that was a 7-5 highlands team playing mostly sophomores in 2005. Lexcath wasn't that good.

I agree, If you move up a class just to get away from somebody what are you teaching the kids, and if you can't beat them then you don't deserve it any way.

Overall, 4A has been stronger than 5A. I dont understand how they would get the better teams. FTH would have absoloutly no competetion in the East and wouldnt even get a game until the State Championship in 5A. In 4A, there having to compete with Cov Cath, Boyle, Lex Cath, and other just to get to the state champinship.

IMO, to keep ny argument or doubt from happening, you should play in the class your suppose to with no exceptions.
If Highlands were to drop down to 3A so be it, I think if were going to have 6 classes, its essential to keep everyone where there suppose to becuase there simply isnt enough schools to overfill one class.

I'm not talking about moving up to get away from somebody. I'm talking about moving up to get to somebody...
