Well like I said I didn't mean for it to be taken the way that it was, but I guess it is okay to get on here and bash and second guess the coaches play-calling.

Everyone wants the bears to be down and everybody wants to jump in when they stumble. We have stumbled this year but we haven't fell just yet. Maybe, just maybe after this loss we get pissed and go back to work. This loss might be just what we need. I still think we right the ship, keep improving and make a long , long run in the playoffs.
I'm all about teams from this district making a long run in the playoffs...
but the bottom line is that this Harlan County team isn't the same team that's been threatening a deep run in the playoffs the last few years.

This is about the same time Southwestern started their run last year so don't count anybody out yet...well except Perry!

Which team/teams you figure will stop their deep run in the playoffs?

Nothing wrong with that at all, just when it leads to rumors of quitting or leaving for whatever reasons.

Harlan Co. is still one of the best 3 teams in the mountains. Knox Central has a really strong team and the game was at Knox. I look for both Harlan Co. and Knox Central to be region champs this year.
09-24-2012, 03:10 PM
I dont know about top 3 mountain but i would agree top 5. I agree totally that they will still win the region.Who would beat them in this region?
09-24-2012, 03:14 PM
We just have to refocus and get prepared for a very difficult road through the district....we have to go to Letcher and Perry and Whitley at home....I don't see any of them being a walk in the park....but I believe in our kids and coaching staff that we will be ready for each game....winning the district is BIG this year....I mean it will be all 4 play-off games at home.

I can buy Top 5... Top 3...not so much.

For sure not top three, but maybe top five. Belfry, Breathitt, Bell to be determined, Knox now, would be considered top teams.

I think you may be right. I would say the ex-super would love to coach this team. Some people are taking the Larkey comments the wrong way. It will be Coach Larkey's decision to leave. No one will force him out. Whether it's the ex-super or someone else I think HC will get a good coach. I would say if the ex-super wants it, it will be his. The current super owes his career to him. And that's just how things work, but he would not be a bad choice.

Just today I've heard that Dudley Hilton has been up to the school 3 or 4 times recently. I wonder why? What's his conection there? Could he be considering the job? Also heard his son is transfering from UPike to UK. Just hearsay at this point though.

Coach Larkey is not going anywhere for a long time.

He has done it for years. It's actually funny.

Agree! Go watch him at Elementary and Middle school games taking in the action. He is not going anywhere folks. I know he wants to bring a State Championship to the county!

Coach Larkey has been the best thing to ever happen to Harlan County football....Tim Saylor knew what he was doing when he hired one of the greatest to ever coach in Kentucky....I know you are sitting there saying " Well bear claw you were questioning Coach Larkey's play calling" BUT when it comes down to it....I am in the bleachers and he is the winning head coach...we love coach Larkey and hope he stays forever.

Heard Dudley and Larkey were going to be taking over Whitley's middle school program nicker:

Knox and Bell series needs to continue and Dudley needs to get back to coaching high school football.

Of course Dudley would consider it, it pays well and he will be out of job in a few weeks. The Upike experiment is failing miserably, he will be back in HS coaching if he can get a gig somewhere. HC would be better served to keep Larkey, he is as good or better a Coach and will be a lot less costly in the long run.
He has a daughter that works in the school system if I am not mistaken.

It is coming back in 2013. And so is he somewhere. Already talking to HC and Corbin, not sure if they are listening but he is talking.

I just can't see Larkey leaving after this season. You really think he's going to leave after coaching 4 years at HC and only potentially coaching ONE game in that new facility?

I will throw up if Dudly lands at Corbin.

That is a rumor that seems to be building steam. He clearly wants out of Upike and some folks in Corbin seem to be welcoming that change?

I hope Larkey stays...I sometime don't agree with his play calling but that is the reason I am in the stands and he is one of the winningest coach in KY....I don't want anyone else....Larkey has put Harlan County on the map....in the 4 1/2 years we are respected by others.
09-25-2012, 09:15 PM
Trust me folks, Dudley starts all the rumors on himself. I doubt Harlan County or Corbin either one has said a word to him, but I don't doubt he is telling that. Now, He may leave Pikeville because he will never be successful there. He is not a college coach, but I don't blame him for trying to take care of his son there. He will probably pop up somewhere if a school system is willing to pamper him like he enjoys so much. Harlan made a great choice in Larkey, and I hope he stays there until he is 75 years old. I will be very surprised if he is there next year, but I may be wrong and I hope I am.

I am gonna say this and move on. I BLEED BLUE and GOLD, and I am a PANTHER for LIFE. With that said, I am ashamed of some of my Harlan County folks that have got on here and want or wish Larkey gone. He has built Harlan Football into what it is today. YES you got beat by KNOX, get over it we are actually pretty good. We are on our way, where you are already at. I would hope in the future, if we stumble my PANTHER NATION doesn't react the way some of you Blackbears have acted. We know how far we have come, and are still trying to get there. Love your Coach and your Team. I believe they have earned it. Good Luck you filthy animals.
