Belfry 2012
Belfry0304 Wrote:Fully expect Tony to be one of the most dominant kids in the mountains. At 6'6, 215 his precense alone will effect games and his natural athleticism will make him stand out along w/ his size. Awesome dude, as well. He should have his pick of local colleges.

i am trying to get Arkansas State to look at him, he spent alot of time at my house, when him and blke newsome played together..
Tony is a very good player
Dont know if anyone has posted it yet, but here is the schedule....

Aug 24, 12 Harrison County at Belfry/Pikeville 8:30 PM Pike County Bowl
Aug 31, 12 Henry Clay home 7:30 PM
Sep 7, 12 Prestonsburg home 7:30 PM
Sep 14, 12 Pikeville away 7:30 PM
Sep 21, 12 Sheldon Clark away 7:30 PM
Sep 28, 12 East Ridge home 7:30 PM
Oct 5, 12 Ashland Blazer away 7:30 PM
Oct 12, 12 Lawrence County away 7:30 PM
Oct 19, 12 Pike County Central home 7:30 PM
Oct 26, 12 Johnson Central away 7:30 PM
I'm seeing a 10-0, 9-1, 8-2 season. Only because I have no knowledge of Ashland or Henry Clay.

they beat them both last, and lost to JC,they could go undeafted if they get them a good full back to replace willis, and need someone to step up for the back up qb...
Something must change in the Pike County Bowl. Belfry should not be playing the same opponent two years in a row!

Very dissapointing for the fan and probably the kids too.

Who are they playing?
That was a problem of Franklin County pulling from the contract in 2011. No one to play a one year contract, so they're just going to play Harrison County again. Montgomery County will be the 2013 opponent.

Although I am quoting RIUTG, this is in reply to Spud's post. Spud, I agree with you that Belfry will have no fewer than 8 wins. Should they lose, the teams I have bolded on the schedule would most likely be the ones that would beat them, and that's if they lose one or two this year.

Sheldon Clark lost alot of talent from a 1-10 team last season so I can't see them beating the Pirates, and Prestonsburg lost a little bit from a team Belfry beat 48-31 (or so) so I would rule out those two. Of course a few injuries, a bad game, and ANYTHING can happen. I also like that Henry Clay has to come to us.
Sani went to Westerns QB camp this week and he got MVP under classman I look for him to do big things this year good luck PIRATES.

Definitely proud of our quarterback! He attended a camp at WKU and Marshall over the weekend. Camps are how you get offers! I hear that more offers and seriousness of the ones already offered are coming for Tony Messer. Certainly makes for an exciting season. Haven't seen colleges really look at a Belfry Pirate like they have Tony Messer in a while.
I think both Messer and Warren have a shot at FCS level ( think EKU, Murray State, etc) and maybe even low to mid FBS schools (think WKU, Marshall, MAC schools).

Barnes definitely has FBS size as well, would love to see him take his play up a few notches and see what that produces both on and off the field for him. I think the Hyde kid from Clay County is a good comparison of what Barnes could achieve if he puts in the extra effort and dedication.

Sky is the limit! Messer has some bigger offers than that though, he is 6'6 and coordinated. He told me Charlie Strong has spoke to him in person as well as showing me multiple letters from Missouri.

i think one of scouts people is sup2 give his video to Arkansas State, i have been on them to do it, he told he spoke to Tony, but hasnt said if he gave them video yet of not, would love to see him here in jonesboro..
great job sani warren i was wondering is belfry getting a new backs coach this year
Congrats to Coach Rowe! Pretty cool wedding!
Can immaturity cause some problems with most of the leadership coming from the graduating class ?

Completely agree, now hopefully come November the Pirates can "seal the deal" on the same field to send us to BG!
Belfry0304 Wrote:Two years ago I would have agreed unquestionably but Ghormley is injured. I believe he will need shoulder surgery just as soon as baseball ends and he also had back problems last year to complicate. No need to chance him injury, just leave him at linebacker.

Ghormley isn't injured and will not be having any surgery this summer. He has been in the weight room everyday since baseball season ended. I'm sure that he would do just fine in the fb postition IF the coaches want/need him to be there, but LB is his position of choice and he plays it extremely well!

I talked to him a few days ago, he has been working hard. I'd rather play him at LB instead of FB, we'll have four of the best LBs in the state and I'd hate for him to get hurt.. Defense wins championships.
when is the 1st practice? 2nd week in july?
We sent about 6 kids to Lexington for the FBU Camp over the weekend, 4 high school, 2 middle school. I hear it was an excellent camp and all four kids got better. Congratulations to Austin Hatfield, Sani Warren, and freshman Xondre Willis on being invited to the "Top Gun" camp in Virginia. Only the top percentage of athletes at each regional are invited. Excellent work, only makes me more excited for the upcoming season!
Make that 4 Belfry boys with a top gun invite. Congrats to upcoming 8th grader Devin Varney (yes, another Varney at Belfry) ... Good work!

Xondre Willis will proablly be your next star running back at Belfry
Derek Wellman who will be an 8th grade running back for Belfry middle school also got Invited to the Top Gun camp.
as long as they pan out on the field, the camps invites is gr8...

yes!!! Most of you are putting wat to much into these camps, most of the leaders of this team will be the strong silent messer and the interior linemen, taylor , jude, may the vocal leader of this team will probably be sani. The leadership and team first attitude that left with the seniors is the biggest challange an ego mania exist with the upcoming skill players, who run wild on weaker teams but lay down against a challange, prove me wrong im hoping, but trey and dixon style of running will be hard to replace

You are somewhat right but I don't worry, because Sani Warren and Payton Mullins are excellent leaders. Trey will without a doubt he hard to replace in many ways, but Austin Hatfield (should he be the fullback) is the perfect man for the job. He works HARD, rises to challenges, and has the same in-game mindset as his cousin Josh Dixon.

As for the camps, we should be proud of these kids for doing well. I didn't need those invites to know that the five kids who were invited are the real deal. Trust me!
