then yea..
I wouldn't care.
The chances of a player snapping his ankle or tearing his ACL on the court is far more greater than getting hurt when fans storm the court.

I would think it has more to do with the fans then the players, didn't we have a UK fan the had to be taken to the hospital after Indiana stormed the court? Fans are the ones in danger, I wouldn't want to play at Indiana either

Wow I didn't know the inside of Rupp looks like that now. Being a bunch of couch burning dumbasses in your home city with no interaction with another teams fans/players and trampling Darius Miller before he can even get up to get off the court are 2 different circumstances.

I'm just saying...
we're talking about IU fans being classless and I'm saying that no one here is any better.
If Kentucky had a number one team come into Rupp and while they were unranked...
They were behind by 2 with a few seconds left and hit a 3 to win the game...
The court would be stormed and I doubt they would wait to see if the other team was off of the floor first.
Kentucky fans have stormed the field in a handful of football games over the last few years so they are no different than Indiana fans.
05-07-2012, 03:41 PM
^ It was much more than storming the court. It was how our fans were treated there. As mentioned in my previous post, I know people that went to this game and they were treated horribly by the IU fans. Every fan base has their bad apples - but this is far and beyond the worst I have ever heard of when it comes to how an opposing fan base is treated.
As to the schedule, I really don't think this is a huge deal. Calipari just won a national championship for crying out loud. Regardless of the schedule, we are going to be in a position to win titles and that is all that matters.

I've been to UK games and seen people walk in with an opposing teams colors on...
it doesn't go over well.
My wife and I went to a girl's game two years ago and we're season ticket holders. She had Tennessee shirt on and got cussed at...
we were playing LSU.
I didn't go up to Indiana for this one and I contribute all of the moaning over how we were treated by the fans to how we were treated by the score.

Like I said, every team has its bad apples. Does UK have a few fans that would probably go out of their way to make opposing fans lives miserable? Absolutely. But this was a lot more than that "select few." But this was a lot more than just getting cussed at by somebody...and it's even worse when security doesn't even make an effort to stop it when they are asked to. Like I said, I know people who went to that game.
Why would we be moaning about how we were treated by the score? We avenged the loss and put up 100 on them in the NCAA tournament. We lead the all-time series with them 32-24. We have three more titles than they do. We have nothing to be jealous of with that program. Tom Crean will have them on the right track and I'm sure they'll win their fair share over the next few years. I don't care if we would have won that game by 50 - I would still be saying the same thing. That place was nuts.

I wouldnt call Calipari a good guy or a bad guy in this situation, but he is definitely trying to be smart in this situation. Who wouldn't take for all intents and purposes 2 homes over a home-away series. As much as anyone wants to say it wouldn't be, they are crazy. This is the same fan base that turned New Orleans into "Blue" Orleans.

Not comprehending logic? Calipari not being the "good guy?" I think you are the one that can't comprehend logic. There really isn't a good guy or a bad guy in this situation...Calipari wants what he feels is best for UK, and Crean the same for IU. All I am saying is why I think Calipari thinks the way he does on this, which I think is reasonable. He just won a title and some people are all over him for scheduling. Calipari knows what he's doing and whatever he does with the schedule will position UK to be in the best possible position to be in contention in March, something you may not know much about with Gonzaga.

You can spit that hate all you want and it aint going to tear me up.
I picked up a liking to the Zags a long time ago because my favorite player went to school there and I will root for them until the end of time.
Much like the Bungles and Reds fans on here that get no love from their performance in the post season.
But that is neither here nor there.
Calipari was fine with signing up IU to play home-and-away when he thought he would roll through them in Bloomington.
That is all I'm saying and no one will change my mind on that.
It aint because of people storming the court.
It aint for the fans not playing nice.
And it sure as heck aint to get them ready for the postseason.
He doesn't want to play IU up at Bloomington because they left with a Big L the last time they went and he don't wanna play em at UK because it'll stop his little win streak.

Hey...
if I were him and I could get away with it I would do it.
However, I would not try to schedule it my way and when it falls through say "they don't want to play us" or "I'll play anyone, anytime, anywhere"

It would be nice for Calipari to protect the streak, but at the end of the day he's about championships, which again I can tell you have trouble understanding being a Gonzaga fan.
We play Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and every other year teams like Arkansas (will be tough with Anderson coaching), and now Missouri. Yeah, they are conference games, but since UK has to play those teams at home do you really think he would fear Indiana, or any other ranked team? That home streak will be tough to defend whether we play Indiana or not so it's not like he would be weaseling out of anything. This past year Kentucky played UNC at home. UNC was loaded. Do you really think he was afraid to play them and lose his home winning streak? His team sure didn't reflect that. Calipari would trade a home loss for a national title any day of the week.
Indiana returns a lot from a team that greatly, greatly overachieved. I really doubt that Calipari fears playing a team that is going to be tough for anyone, but probably not at the #1 ranking that everybody thinks they will be. Indiana will be good for years to come with Tom Crean at the helm. They are a good team that will be highly ranked throughout the course of the season and could make a deep run, but it's not like UK would have been playing the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat. It's not like Calipari didn't want to play them at all. And the same goes with IU, they wanted to play us as well. The terms of the game just didn't work out. This has happened with quite a few teams in the past. I guess because of the title this one is publicized a lot more.

I'm sure Calipari is worried about losing his home win streak in the SEC....
05-08-2012, 02:08 PM
^ Cailpari, like any coach, worries about losing period. Home, away, neutral, conference game, non-conference game, it doesn't matter. Nobody wants to lose.
12-09-2012, 02:43 PM
Coach Cal pretty much knows he would have had the streak ended this year at home against I.U. His goal is to go 40-0 next season and make the history books, Going to I.U.'s home court (voted the third toughest place to play behind Kansas and Duke) would put that in jeopardy. Smart move on his part to take his ball and go home on this one.
