South Floyd on probation...and Some fans get banned

"BOBKATS4LIFE" Wrote:I attended the BL/SF game friday night. Much has been said in here (including threats) as to this game and the post-game fight. SF has displayed in the past year a negative trend in poor attidtudes and willingness to agitate and instigate fights. WHAT is SF's problem? Why are there these immature "crazzies" running the sidelines and distracting from good basketball? True, there might have been some words from the BL side but it can't compare to the ignaorant attitude displayed by SF fans and parents. SF's parents need to grow up! Why do you act like you are some ignorant 14 year old? Instead of joining in to the fight SF parents should have been doing the responsible thing and trying to break it up. That game was one of the best games I have ever watched. It was ruined by these parents and over-active pep squad members from SF. The claim that BL totaled the locker room are unfounded and a rumor. Coach Rose is a respectable person that would never allow his players to destroy public property, as I assume SF's coach would do the same. SF principal Keith Henry needs to step up and be a man and dicipline these unruly students and let the law deal with their parents. This is just my opinion, but it is the general consensus in the public that SF was in the wrong. Maybe they need to do something to change this perception??? (HMM, how about start acting like adults to start?) ............................................._______________ SF

Omg you need to quit complaining about some of Sf's pep squad members and just admit that Bl can't stand to get beat by SF and that they also cant stand that SF has better fans then BL........... What would you say if someone was to say what your saying about sf's fans about your fans???? Think about it and quit complaining over something stupid! Get it in your head that Sf is better then Bl.

"Basketballfan" Wrote:I think the whole SF on probation is stupid because BL started the fight and they messed up SF's locker room and that is so childish. They need to learn how to take their loss and quit being a sore loser! BL needs to learn that SF is better then them!

I think that SF isn't on probation just for the BL game. I was told by someone that this was their 3rd offense and they had already been warned. Someone I personally know broke up 3 different altercations at the gym that night and I don't see how everyone is saying that it is all BL's fault when all 3 of the altercations involved only people from SF. They were arguing among themselves. One man in particular was already banned from a previous altercation with Prestonsburg and wasn't suppose to be at the game anyway.

Sounds like they all need JESUS!
No one has said that the ppl who acted like total idiots were wrong. Thats why kids think it's okay to have no respect because no one is holds them accountable. The players do not respect the refs, the fans do not respect the admin. a total lack of respect is what this boils down to. Have some pride in your school and yourself and be a FAN not a fool.

Bobcatfan06 the crazzies are not whining. Bl is just simply mad cause they aint got any fans that will paint their bodies or get all pumped over a game! That's what you call Jealousy!

What about if SF fans wear clothes that are not SF colors or have SF on them anywhere... Will the people who take up money at the gate have the final say as to who they allow in and dont? What about older fans, like parents of the players, will they not be allowed to watch there kids play?

I was told that if this happened. It wouldn't be just SF fans not allowed, it would be no-one in the gym for either team but players, coaches, and refs.

"You Betcha" Wrote::please:

Oh. My. God.

SF / BL has been a bitter rivalry for years. How can you possibly say bad blood between fans is almost always the referee's fault.

That is simply ridiculous.

Game management (usually the home team's Athletic Director) has the authority and the responsibility to control the crowds. Yes, the referees also have the authority to eject individuals or even clear the gym. But that is the most drastic action an official can take and is only considered when game management cannot get things under control. Referees are trained to ignore the crowds except in the most extreme cases.

I wasn't there so I can't comment on the specifics of that night. But you cannot possibly blame fan rivalry on referees.

Fan rivalry no. Fans getting out of hand YES.

"You Betcha" Wrote:I wasn't at the game. Are you saying the referees at this game did any of these things? Or, is this simply a general statement about your opinion of officiating quality?

I refereed for about 14 years maybe more. I know from experience if a referee keeps a tight reign on the game the excitement from the fans will still be there but the tempers on the floor will be less. I am saying the referees are like judges. All the fans want is a fair called game. In general a ref controls the game.

Well Bobkats4life you seem as one sided as the FCT article, I'd say throwing bottles from the BL side -which did happen, I was there- shows poor attitude and willingnes to agitate and instigate fights. There were some words from the BL side-and it can be compared to South Floyd because it wasn't just in the stands, they were from the BL parents that swarmed the floor over to the South Floyd side of the gym, which I don't perceive yelling "Wait till you come to the dome" and other comments as some method of doing the responsible thing and trying to break up the fight. The claim about the locker room being totaled is not unfounded and a rumor... it's true.
"You Betcha" Wrote:Forgive me if I'm wrong. But isn't this like the second or third time in this thread you've suggested sueing somebody? What's up with that? Are you an attorney?

Do you simply want to complain about officiating, or do you really want to know what can be done to make it better? If you want to make high school officiating better I have a suggestion. Why don't you get licensed and officiate some games yourself. Obviously the officiating in the 15th will immediately improve just because you'll be on the roster of officials.
No, I am not an attorney. One of the reasons for high school sports is to help kids get into college by getting a scholarship. If the FCBE wants to ban college scouts from going to SF games. Then yes, someone should be held responsible for it. From all I have read here, it wasnt the players, but the fans. Should a kid not get into college because of fan behavior? And I am saying about the lawsuits because that is where things should be settled at if there are problems. In court, not on the court.

I think what the BL ball team did to the locker room over there was about stupid, and there was no reason to do it. :boosign:

It was a hard fought game and probably the best game I've seen all season..our boys should've taken their loss and went to the house..plain and simple. All they did was make it harder on the rest of tha bl teams wen they have to go over to SF..
yeah im good friends with the joe dirt referee in the short shorts and he told he had to go appeal his case to the board where he had been suspended from the 2005-2006 season in floyd county....he showed me his referal and it said "innappropriate behavior at a ball game" then he looked at me and was like wasnt the whole situation inappropriate ...out of 50 ppl fighting i got suspended from every ball game and may i add didnt throw a punch and got suspended for inappropriate behavior.....good luck to him and the rest of the fans and parents that got banned for immature behavior from the opposing betsy layne bobcats....because of a couple of betsy layne graduate that had nothing to lose..parents cannot watch there children play and students cannot attend there own schools extracurricular events....:boosign:
i agree cya tournement time
I think Fannin and the FCBOE will try to make examples out of the persons involved or accused of being involved. Even though the actions of some may be very minor they will be punished severely to allow the BOE to prove a point. That is very unfortunate for those who are innocent and stuck in the middle. Kind of a wrong place wrong time thing. I hope those of you who are innocent can prove that you are and have your bans lifted. Those of you who started it or took part in it-- perhaps you will learn a lesson.

Good luck to both teams in the remainder of the season.

It is truly sad that BL had to destroy SF locker room! They were mad because they didn't win the games and there fans didn't support them as well as SF Fans support there players
"BOBKATS4LIFE" Wrote:SF parents, FANS, and students all need to look at todays (01-11-05) Floyd county times and realize the perception that Floyd county citizens are having on SFHS and HIHAT. There is not a single negative word towards BLHS. Regardless of what actually happened, ultimatley it will be the public's (read BOE) 's perception that SF was guilty. Those that live and work and go to school in HIHAT had better rethink what the do before they do it, or basketball and football could become a thing of the past in HIHAT.
To quote BLHS principal monday morning on the events around the fight..." We showed good team spirit"
NUFF SAID SEAN!!!!!!!!!

The FCT article just goes to show you what merit the article actually holds. NONE! Someone called it right earlier as selective journalism. As far as the perception from the SF alum stating that they were, "ashamed of calling themself an alumnus of SFHS, and that it all starts with sportsmanship" goes, well, some players may show lack of sportsmanship sometimes, but that goes for anywhere you go. That still doesn't give an opposing fan the right to try and injure a player by throwing objects at the player. Just because a player taunts a fan section doesn't mean they have to retaliate by trying to hurt him. Also, in all technicality, the incidents would've never flared if the BL fan would've refrained from taking the action they did. BTW Bobkat, you're a year behind. It's 2006....

Obviously, your source is wrong. I know for a fact SF's locker room was trashed by BL and it all comes down to lack of class on their behalf. But, I agree with you on your compliment towards SF's head coach. Coach Hall would never stand for that nonsense and I could guarantee you, it would NOT take place with the respectable coaching staff South Floyd has....
Bomber good point I have seen the pictures of the locker room where just players and coaches from BL was, so really that is a lot worse then fans because they represent their school. I did not see SF' coach chase down the refs because of a call, i did not see sf's fans throw bottles and try to hurt players from BL, I did not see sf's ad and coach stand in the middle of the floor and laugh, I did not see sf's fans run to the other side and try to start something but Sf gets the probation select journalism is right and winning and jealousy leads to a lot of it maybe sf should throw the district and everyone else would be happy

I totally agree bomber. No way would something like that go on in the eyes of a SF coaching staff member.
I believe as long as a bottle has no explosive material in it or isn't loaded with lead it will not injure a player, but in no way am I condoning that behavior, I'm just trying to keep this from being further instigated into any legal action. This is stupid that something like this has happened, but the punishment is going to be against SF because of the reputation they have developed over the last couple of years, that is no way any bias against SF, because personally, I LOVE to watch Prestonsburg play them, on sheer rivalry you're guarantee'd a fantastic game. Also, I agree that Betsy Layne should be punished, not only the players, but the COACH more importantly. You can't pin the blame on the kids, their coach is their model, so if he hits a locker; throws a chair; breaks a light; what do you expect the kids to do? Of course they're going to replicate it. The situation has to be further investigated. I'd like to add, that in no way is it possible for them to ban these kids from a game, it isn't hard for them to sneak in, and not every adult taking up the money for tickets knows every student personally, so it would be impossible for them to single out students. Sure, they might catch a few, but they won't catch them all. However, if these kids, or anyone else who was banned because of the incident, do in some way provoke or advocate anything at all, there will be legal action taken against them. But, ultimately I place the blame on the adults. At a game earlier this year, we were playing AC at AC. And, for some very, very odd reason, some parents or adult supporters of our opposition, decided to sit in OUR fan section. As the game went on and their team fell behind, they placed the blame on us, one man got so bent out of shape, I thought that there would be an altercation for sure, but we as fans had enough maturity about us to disregard the ignorant man. So for all of this over-proud, ready-to-fight-at-any-time parents, let me ask you this, is it more important to win or is the safety of your child worth more to you? I assure you people that I am more concerned about other things in my life than 58th District Basketball - even though it is the single most importhant thing on the face of the earth. I suggest these adults find a life, quick.
Sorry about the book, I got mad.
i agree blackcat it would be easy for someone to sneak in and not be singled out but then again...i was one of the fans that got banned and i was singled out...i got suspended from all floyd county games for 2005-2006 and i did not even throw a punch....i was easily seen and thats more then likely why i got the blame for a lot of stuff that i did not do....the only thing they could say for the reason for my suspension was inappropriate behavior....out of 60 fans and parents fighting i have the one and only paper to say MY behavior was inappropriate...and when i pleaded my case sayin i didnt throw a punch they replied they have witnesses from BL side that u did...ok ?? i have witnesses from My side sayin i didnt but who are they going to believe obviously BL because they have got by with so much in this it dont matter....things got out of hand and i wish it would have never happend but i will be at region ......and i will be crazier and wilder then ever

The ref :ref1:
Well Misfit....sounds as if you are the "leader" of the crazies and that's just the punishment that you have to accept no matter how much you -- even I -- disagree with it. I went through this at Pikeville. Everytime there was trouble with the student section I was always the one called to the office the next day -- even sometimes called before the game and warned.

It sucks that you are singled out because you are the one that has the most school spirit and support your fellow classmates (and I'm sure close friends) the best that you can. I wish you the best in getting to go back to games, but if not, you now have time to think about region and all of the crazy things that you can do then :coach: -- just remember to keep it contact free (but say what you want Wink )

BL's ad and coach was not standing in the middle of the floor laughing. The coach was in the locker room the whole time, even when you say they destroyed the locker room. The AD was in the middle of the floor trying to keep everything calm. I agree, you never even saw SF's AD or coach in the middle of the floor where they should have been trying to help. I did see SF's Coach Hall bear hug Ryan Little and drag him back in the locker room after they came out and saw the fights because he tried to get involved. I do believe this kind of stuff would not happen with the kids (fans) if Henry Webb was still there. Keith Henry needs to get control of the school. If you did not see SF's fans run to the other side, that is because the ones painted in black sneaked back in the door where the locker rooms where after they were escorted out trying to get in BL's locker room. Most of the people on hear only know what is being said mostly by SF's fan so this thread is as lopsided as you say the FCT article is which I have not read yet.
SF's fans MAY have tried to get in the back door. But my question is this. If the BL fans went over to the SF side and started the fight to start off with, why is everyone saying Mr. Henry needs to get control of SF's fans. No one has said that BL's principal needs to get control of his. I mean, if they fought in football, now basketball, how can it only be one side when BL people come to SF's side. But of course it was SF fault that there fans come over there and hit them. Yep, they should take all the blame. Just the same as Mr. Henry should get control of his school and let other schools just come over and hit them. Someone said they should have walked away.... if SF fans should have walked away after getting hit, then why shouldnt BL's have walked away instead of walking over to hit? Does anyone on here really belive that if SF would have walked across the gym and hit a BL fan, that the BL fan would have walked away?

In retrospect both sides got carried away. Emotions were high and regardless of who was right or who was wrong we are all entitled to our opinions. However, I have a major problem with the "joe dirt referee". After most of the fighting had concluded, I was standing on the bleachers two rows from the floor with my six year old daughter and "joe dirt" proceeded to walk in front of us, not 5-10 feet away, displayed both middle fingers and said "F*** yall". I have already filed a formal complaint with the KHSAA commisioner and the FCBOE. This is completley inappropriate and uncalled for. It is this reason that has put such a bad taste in my mouth for SF. This is a high school ballgame. A family event. Now I have to explain to my daughter what this guy was doing in front of us. I hope they ban him for the remainder of his high school tenure. Poor attitute (and they won!!!) :ban:
Was it a good attitude when the BL fans where throwing bottles at a SF player when they was shaking hands with the BL players? Should the person or people who did that get banned also? The sad part is, according to what people on here are saying and the newspaper. The ones who came to the SF side and started the fight are graduates from BL. So now, people who already graduated are allowed, but current students are not.
"ALLSPORTFAN" Wrote:I agree, you never even saw SF's AD or coach in the middle of the floor where they should have been trying to help.

You evidently don't know who the AD is at SF. The AD and all the Coaches from SF were trying to get the situation under control. bl's coach was not in the locker room the whole time as you say and if he had been that's even worse because that means he was in there when they tore the place up so was he helping or just watching? Bottom line is both sides are at fault in this, neither side can really say the other is to blame or that one side is worse than the other it should never have happened in the first place and a few bad apples from both sides ruined what should have been related to as one of the best games of the season will now be known as one of the worst. Just my opinion..everybody has one.
