Very pleased to hear JJ will be back in Pirate red and white next season. He was a tremendously important part of that title run last season. He has a TON of talent and with a good offseason, I look for him to be one of the best backs in the mountains next season.

I have been looking at the future tonight, from 12th down to 6th grade and this could possibly end up being the best stretch in Belfry football in history. The current sophomores and freshmen don't have the strongest class but could get alot of help from the classes under them. If some lineman step up, these teams could be scary. I know this is the 2012 thread, but still yet, no other place to discuss that.

Are you speaking of the kids who will be sophomores and freshman next year, because the Sophomore class at present is pretty darned good. My honest opinion is the Soph class right now is the best class at Belfry. I think the next 2 years Belfry should be back in state title games, now whether they get over the Central hump or not will remain to be seen. After those 2 years Belfry will drop off a little. They will still be Belfry, but legitimate state title contenders I'm not so sure. Tough to say its a better stretch than the back to back state championships followed by teams that were on the cusps of a few more state championships. Also I'd be willing to bet there would have been a few state champion teams at Belfry had the class system been set up in the 80's and 90's like it is now. By no means am I trying to diminish the great honor of being a state championship team for 2003 and 2004 teams, but the road sure used to be alot tougher. There was a team called the Bluebirds who repeatedly stood in the way. I'd bet you've heard of them.

The sophomore class is pretty loaded w/ Warren, Johnson, and plenty more. A little short on lineman however. The freshman class has a few studs including Hatfield, and Keaton Taylor (Small, but fast) but under them there is some serious talent. BMS is loaded with athletes, unfortunately the lineman haven't stepped up. Trust me, you will soon become familiar with the names. X Willis, Keilan Carr, Cameron Catron, TJ Dotson, Andrew Fletcher, Cole Bentley, Austin Gibbs, Devin Varney, Devin Wellman, Rayquan Horton, and I don't know what the 6th grade holds but there is one kid who I can't remember his name but he's good. I've watched the current 8th graders for a while and known they'd be loaded w/ athletes. These kids will be contributers when the current freshman are seniors. Of course injuries, and you never know what happens but the key word is potential. There sure is ALOT of it down there. Belfry is not going anywhere ANY TIME soon!

you all need to get blake newsome back out for his senior year,i have talked to him until i am blue in the face, seems like after i moved when he was at the beginning of his freshman year, where he was doing good until he got hurt, he just lost interest...waste of talent....(((

Zack has talked about it, but I'm not sure he'll come back out. He met with Ohio State for baseball a few weeks back so he has ALOT to lose if he was to get hurt again. I'm just glad Preston Dotson is coming back out. Dude benches the bleachers, lol.

Would love for Blake to come back out, me and him have gotten close this past year and I've begged him too.

Would you expect Preston Dotson to start on the oline? If so, where? How big is the kid? Did he play much before sitting out last year?

Preston will start somewhere on the field. He's a big kid with talent. He did get some reps as a freshmen and he will shock a few!

Don't believe so, I graduated this past year.
As far as Preston, he'll probably start on both sides. He's a big strong physical kid with a good bloodline, lol.

Well I've been told by alot of players, and he works out with the team, so if he's not he's working really hard for nothing.

Last week sometime.

So with a week of Spring practice, how's it looking on Pond Creek? Does the offense look tweaked? Even with a great Qb, it's tough to justify straying too far from what the Pirates have done for the last 2 decades. When you can field the big, stong offensive lines the Pirates have had, why would you want to do much different? When you can control the LOS the way they do, it's the best possible defense you can have. When the other team only touches the ball once a quarter, it's tough to score. Haha.
