This is an interesting topic. Keep up the discussion! I'm learning a lot about Kentucky football by reading this board.

HC vs Bell game this year could be closer than this past year was! Now that would be exciting!

You said the thread was about the best team in mountains and stated JCHS beat Belfry. In the same token Ashland beat JCHS. I'm failing to see your point by asking how many times Belfry won at Ashland. Belfry beat Ashland by 1, Ashland beat JCHS by 21 or 14 cant remember and JC beat Belfry by 7. Your reason of quoting Hoot and just saying JC beat Belfry eludes me. If your trying to say JC is better than Belfry because they beat them, I have no problem with that, but it would also mean Ashland is better than JC. Would that be correct? Just askin also.

JC returns most of its team for next season and Ashland will suffer heavy graduation losses. JC will enter the season as a heavy favorite to win its district, IMO.

The reason for mentioning that JC beat Belfry on the road this past season, in a late season game, was to establish that JC was one of the top teams in the mountains, they return most of their key players, and they should be included in anybody's top 10 list. It was not a knock on Belfry, which should also enjoy another great season in 2012.

I read every post and for the most part I am glad I did.
Some teams that were not mentioned(Not saying they will be top ten but I still want some thoughts on them)
Pike Central
Lawrence County
Phelps

How about listing teams of each class in the mountains that have legitimate shots at district and regional titles and go from there....
1A
Hazard
Williamsburg
Pikeville
Harlan
2A
Somerset
Pburg
Leslie County
3A
Bell
Belfry
Breathitt
Powell
4A
Johnson Central
Rockcastle
Knox Central
5A
Harlan County
Whitley County
Pulaski County
Who else would you put on the list as true contenders or who would you take off the list?

I agree with the list, but how can you say on one thread that District 8 is "wide open" and then list only two teams with a legitimate shot at winning district and regional titles?
I think Harlan County is the favorite and will be a top 5-7 team in 5A. I think Whitley is a solid second and will be a borderline top 15 team.

HC loses more than Bell does. 2011 was HC year in my opinion.

Don't see it happening. The HC defense was stiff, but they're losing alot. The main success they had on offense was one certain play, with McMillian running somewhat of a draw up the middle, then quickly cutting around behind #71, Smith I believe. Both of those are gone. Brewer is gone. I personally thought Middleton was the better back between he and McMillian myself, but with HC losing so much I'm gonna have to agree with Amped that last year was their year, both teams may not be so evenly matched again for a few years.

Harlan County brings back most of its defense (returning starters Caudill, Miracle, Whitehead, Middleton, Maggard, Long and Chitwood), plus Tucker Lewis should be back from the knee injury. I think Harlan County moves ahead of Bell next year, especially at home.

Dont be an ass.
District 8 IMO is wide open. I personally think Whitley is the favorite next year with HC a close second, but Whitley has to beat them first before i rank them above HC.
HC will not be as good as youve been trying to make them sound in other threads. I know what they return, weve been round and round in circles on this shit, but when it comes down to it, they lost a lot. They will struggle, especially early on in the season.
The other thread i did state it was wide open, but on this thread i asked how would rank the teams if you had to. Meaning, throw in 3 teams that you feel will be battling it out. Anything can happen, just like it did at SW for HC, PCC, and WC last year.

If it's truly wide open, everyone has a good shot at winning and that is not the case.
Harlan County will be the favorite in the preseason polls, both in the district and region. Whitley will be second, probably in both also.
There were no major upsets this year. Harlan County and Southwestern were expected to win their districts and they did. Southwestern was something of a surprise in winning the region, but it was at home and it was in overtime.

Winning at Belfry is hard to do. Winning at Ashland is hard to do too.

We heard the same thing for how many years now? HC needs to improve their schedule IMO. That is what got them this year.
HC puts too much into beating Bell. After the Bell County loss HC season was busted they should have won the Region.

True. HC was the best team in the region this year but hang there hat to much on a non district game that means virtually nothing.

2years is all and what is wrong with that? The game could have went either direction this year and our schedule is fine, you Bell guys just like to bring that up to stir things because yours is not that good.
Beating the schedule into the ground is old, no one in Harlan County cares what Bell thinks about OUR schedule, better beef yours up to beat the Yellowjackets or youll never win region again.
You worry about yours and well take care of ours.

This makes one year for me.
I picked Bell to win the first four years of the school. I had HCHS 9-1 going into the year, which is where they finished.
It took Dudley five tries to finally get past Cawood.
Harlan County's strongest class is this year's sophomores.

And you all have won one Regional Title and all that I heard about this year is that Highlands was not in 5A and that you guys would be representing the East come on is that all you have for us to worry about the Yellow Jackets we have 2 State Titles what about you guys?:biglmao:

No HC fan including myself penciled us in for the state game, did some predict yes, but most of the predictions came from outside Harlan County, which built a bunch of pressure but there was not a bunch of fans picking us to go.
2 state titles, congrats. How long have you existed 50 years?
How long did it take you to win a region title?
It took us 3.

:please: not this stuff again????
Bell also returns most of their defense and ton of there offense. In fact I think they return more than the Black Bears????? I would think the Black Bear nation would learn not to put the success of their season in 1 game against Bell after this season.

JC has become a powerhouse football team in recent years and should be the favorite in their district. But they lose more talent than alot want to give into. They are losing their Mr. Football in Jude, which will be hard to replace IMO. I do understand the whole Ashland is not a mountain team idea, but I was simply bringing out the entire picture. Yes, JC beat Belfry and IMO dominated the game, but by showing entire picture of how Belfry beat Ashland and Ashland dominating JC, showed that JC is not that far ahead of Belfry.
