I'd take Stepp because he is more of a playmaker. He avgs around 9 or 10 assist a game. Landon is a better scorer but Clark makes his teammates better. Clarks game is nothing like his Uncle Erv's. Ervin could shoot the lights out but he never made anyone he played with better, Clark is very unselfish and sets his teammates up well.

Just imagion if you had both on your team. I would go for Landon as the 1 and Clark as the 2.

Slone is at best a good player. I have watched him play for several years now. He constantly improved his game. Last year was te first time I saw him pass the ball but he does not do it much. Personally I disdain glory grabbers like Slone. (I have yet to see the other kid.) Step is good probably as good or better than Slone in many ways. The difference in Slone and Stepp is that Stepp is not only good he makes his whole team better. Slone is on the court to add to his stats, or so it seems. I think someone measured that he has taken no fewer than 60% of his team's shots sometimes he has taken up to 88% and the team lost, will lose, and will never win the tourney that way. King Kelly Coleman made over. Look at June Buchanan's record. Stepp has scored the highest but the wins have been convincing.
Besides one on one is just for show. Team play promotes more than one player, it promotes the Coach and the school too.
BTW My son has faced both players. Landon lead his team to victory through high scoring and scarce passing in two games. Stepp on the other hand won one and lost one when he was double teamed. Landon has yet found an opponent who can shut him down.

If either one of these boys played in the late 80's or early 90's, they would be coming of the bench for most of the better high schools. The talent is just not their anymore, like it used to be.

until landan learns to be all of the following at the same time and be constiant: scorer, rebounder, PASSER, defender and good attitude, then it is CLARK FOR SURE. Sorry, having a scorer on you team that averages no more than 30% and way tooooooo many turnovers, isnt what being the best is. again CLARK.

:BigLaugh:This guy has a point. It has been a very long time since anyone in this part of the mountains period put up a good fight for the state tourney title. As I recall Runyan was the last contender. I have watch Slone grow into a real baller. He does pass a lot more than you think. He still needs the ability to make all those around him better. A leader is not neccessarily the one who scores the most.
As far asa cup cake schedules - the holiday tourneys, at least for Paintsville, has not been cup cake.

Anyone with skill can put up numbers in this region and these two so called "All-Stars" are yet to deliever any post season success to the school. Both teams are succesful this year but are playing cupcake schedules. When either player gets a taste of top notch competition we'll see how bright the young stars really are....:lame:

your right USEDUP, landon does not make his team mates look better, thats not his game. his team mates make him look better than he is. as far as leadership abilities, nope, I would have to say that pugh is the team leader. landon has too many turnovers and missed shots to be the star.:mop:

there is no "stepp" or "slone" in the word team. Slone is a great player but built his reputation on one game against SV last year. Stepp is probably the better scorer and a good player... But a GREAT player is well-rounded. I would have to say a toss-up between the two as of right now.

landon slone, he has been improving his game a lot ever since the 8th grade, don't doubt the kid. he's only a sophmore and hes leading paintsville

I believe you are talking about Irvin Stepp who is Clark's uncle and he averaged 54 points per game I believe. He played for Coach Johnny Martin at Sheldon Clark before going on to Phelps.
