I have also heard a rumor that Knott County boy's assistant coach Eric Mullins has applied for the job. If so I think this would be a great hire for the Bulldog program. He would be someone who played for us and won an All "A" state championship during his career who would help rejuvinate the Bulldog pride within the girl's program. I believe he has been coaching now for a couple years and would bring a young energetic face to the program to work the girls from the grade schools to the high school level.

I don't think he has applied yet.... He's thinking about it, but he likes his job at Knott County too...

Looking like it's between Tyson Gross (Owsley) or Eric Mullins (Knott)....

Neither of those guys could handle it at Hazard. But there is an assistant coach at Perry that has a good shot at getting the job. It's definitely not Coach Whitman either.

Both of these guys will be head coaches one day. Hazard job will be a hard one for a young person... Because a lot of RICH people have a girl on that team...
But I think they both would do a nice job...
No one from Perry as applied.

agree both would do a good job and both will definitely be coaches some day, but just because someone hasn't applied YET doesn't mean they don't have a good shot at getting the job, there is a lot of talking about things that is happening first.

Oh yeah, I know... And Coach Fannin will be coaching the team in summer ball so there's no hurry to hire someone right now...

This is quickly becoming the top topic in sports around the mountains. Every time I go to a gym it is being talked about. I have heard the Estill boys head coach, the Owsley boys assistant, Knott assistant, Walkertown principal, AB Combs head coach, and a Perry Central assistant. I hear the front runner even though they might not have applied for the position was the Perry Assistant who would and will someday make a great head coach.
I don't mention names on here because I think that becomes personal but I started a tally ever time I hear a name I pencil it down and if they are mentioned twice I put a mark beside their name. Here are the top 4 that keeps getting brought up at the gyms, sorry no names but most will know.
1. Owsley Assistant
2. Knott Assistant
3. Walkertown Principal
4. Perry Assistant

Although all would be great coaches someday or have been a great coach, none of them would enjoy doing girls basketball. Unless just using it for a first job and experience, they would not be happy with it. Hazard would be better off giving it to a female, someone that can understand the girls a lot better and someone who will be their for a while, not just use it as a stepping stone.

Johnny_Ringo Wrote:Vic wont get the job. He dont work for the City School System. You got to be in the system some how to get the job dont you? I hear Kevin Whitman is the frontrunner now. He would make Hazard an excellent choice. He is the reason Perry is so good. He is Randy's #1 Recruiter they say. Maybe some of those kids would fall out of the sky at HHS.
In the state of Kentucky, you don't have to work for the school to coach. All that someone need is 60 colleges hours, just like a sub.

100% correct, but schools really look for people with teaching degree...

I heard it is down to 2 finally. (Sam Eddington and Dougie Campbell) Both have daughters that are pretty good players that would help out the Bulldogs. Everyone knows about Dougie's coaching ability at the middle school level, but don't really know how he will do at the high school level, only time will tell. Sam has been coaching AAU teams and has won several tournaments, but when you have all the good players from around the area, you really don't have to know how to coach, just tell them to play. Both should be able to do a good job, good luck to whoever gets the job.

Coach Moore from Breathitt is interested in this job since her firing. Would be a great hire for the dawgs. And also, I'm sure they will make a couple phone calls to see if Coach Bolin from North Laurel would be interested since he has just been released as well. Would be 2 great quality coaches.

Sorry but u heard wrong...

I heard Coach Fannin was sort of forced out. Kind of odd that his daughter is not a candidate for the job. Can anyone give any details on this?

Surely, Hazard will go in a better direction than these guys.

I heard they are talking to a female coach that has had some experience coaching and has been an assistant to one of the winningest coaches in Kentucky, sounds like a lot better prospect than the 2 listed above!

As of right now Eric Mullins, Tyson Gross, and David Adams are the only people to interview..... Eric Mullins had the best interview as of right now...

He wasn't.... He's been really talking about it like 2 years, he wants to rest and with the heart problem he had a year ago, he said the time was right....
His daughter could have had it if she wanted it, but she said no, she was just there because of him.... She's the softball coach...

Hazard likes to win and I am sure they will be looking for someone to step in and do just that. If someone like Coach Moore from Breathitt has any interest look for Hazard to find a way to get them there.

David Adams, a coach of the year at the college level, would be a good hire. His son would be a good guard addition for Hazard
05-16-2011, 09:55 AM
I believe Coach Adams will be the next coach at Hazard. Has the experience with coaching girls basketball on different levels and also has a son that can shoot the lights out.
05-16-2011, 09:58 AM
At the beginning, Hazard was looking for the two young guys, because there wasn't a teaching job open for Adams, but Hazard's Middle School PE teacher will be retiring...
