Mr. Basketball
#31
Hickey (Christian Co.) and Martin from Lex. Cath was the best players in the Sweet 16 playing at Rupp in my book. Has the Martin kid signed with anyone yet to play?
#32
Gaines from Eastern impressed me more than Martin did. The big guy from Bullitt East, Washburn, was a LOAD down low.
#33
Once again, who is Knipp. Never heard of him. Hard to believe someone has a shot a Mr. Basketball and have never heard of him. Admittingly, I am a football guy but still try to keep up with bball too.

You don't follow basketball too much if you've never heard of Timmy Knipp. He was more well known than Anthony Hickey was before the Sweet 16.

He's signed to play baseball for uk next year as a pitcher

Martin had to be a double/double guy most of the year. I have not seen a kid go after the ball like him in years. I do agree with what you said about the Washburn kid. I would have went to him every play down the court if possible. I would have also stuck #33 on the block more or high post also.

Behanan has never impressed you? Well have you ever watched him play? I watched him play louisville trinity (6A) and took it to 4 over times and hit the last second shot to win it by himself. He finished with 46 points and like 23 rebounds. Impressive enough to you? I havent heard if they voted on it before the state tournment or not. But my pick is if they voted before the state tounry, behanan. But if it was after then i will take hickey. They are both the real deal. I think behanan has the size dnd capabillity of being better collage player though.

agreed, behanan is very impressive.. cant forget he carried his team to a district championship again doing most of the work alone. he still is top for mr basketball in my book, but dont let hickeys performance get away to easy at the sweet 16.

Bowling Green did not win the district title this year. And last year he had plenty of help when they did win it. In his time at Bowling Green, the 2010 district championship was his only title.

Make no mistake though, he's the real deal. And if someone isn't impressed with him, well, I just don't know what to say to that person.

I agree, I have watched him play several times and he is the real deal.

Behanan, is a great player. Personally i think he deserves the award. Timmy knipp is good but i dont think he deserves the honer of Mr.Basketball. I'm from Shelby Valley myself. And they played christian co. In the sweet 16 first round. Of course Christian won. But i think hickey played really good throughout the whole tournament. Anthony Hickey is a great athlete, but i dont think he could pull off a 2 sport career in collage. Make no mistake he's amazing...for Kentucky Basketball. He's not played against any other players of his capability except for last year against Last years Mr.Basketball (Elisha Justice). I think Justice ended up with around 35 and hickey had about 20. Hickey just played football this year and thats all the experience he has in that sport. If he's going to play a collage sport it should be basketball. He would have a much better and longer career as a basketball player. Although he did lead his team to the state championship in football. But were unfournatlly embarrased lol. But in my eyes behanan has it locked but hickey is close behind.

Couple of points to refute here.

1. The only year Hickey didn't play varsity football was his Junior year and that is because of basketball. He was a running back his sophmore year. His best runs always seemed to be up the middle that year. I don't know if he will play football again, but basketball is his sport if he has to choose.

2. How were they embarassed? Maybe that night, but they still were the only other team in the state championship game. What does that say about the rest. On that one given night, that is the best I have ever seen a high school team perform in a championship game.

3. Not even close between Hickey and Behanan. BG came to Christian and got beat by 30 in the last half of the season. A team with Mr. Basketball doesn't lose by 30 to anybody in this state. Hickey may or may not win it, but he shouldn't lose it to Behanan. Atleast not based on how they played this year which the award is for.

How close was Butler's guard Shelvin Mack to getting the Mr. Basketball his senior year. He would be the same year as Darius Miller winning the state title.

1. Thats what i meant, they were embarresd in the state title game. Not the whole season.

2. Not even close? Christian co. is a VERY good basketball team. It's not just the hickey show they had many players that they could have not won the state title without. On the other hand behanan is a VERY good player. He doesnt have much of a team but he made them look alot better then they really were.

3. Anthony Hickey had a good team which could help make him look good at times. While behanan didnt and had to do most of the dirty work himself.

And as i said, i was informed that the Mr.Basketball award was voted on before the state tournament. If so i think behanan has it won. But if i was told wrong then Anthony Hickey should win it based on his performance in the state tournment.

i dont think so because justice's name wasnt mentioned so often as the other canidates but after he prooved himself in the tournament and lead his team to the state title i believe the tides turned and you couldnt refuse him to not win it. i thin the same deal should be with hickey this year. if it was before the touney it would have been already announced.

Justice was one of the top canidates for it last year. Ecspecially after they defeated jaytown at jaytown. He proved himself before the state tornament. He destroyd the state assist record and beat the state steals record all in one season. He dominated at state. I watched every valley game. I'm from shelby valley, and he deserved it before they went down to state.

true im not denying that. but i was saying if they decided on it before hand it would have already been anounced by now

I still think you all should give Chris Fergoson from Powell consideration. But when you see Powell County besides a good players name, you just throw it aside.

^ How? he didn't play any last year. no one, heard of him til you started posting stuff about him after the season was over

I'm not 100% sure on this, but i believe he already commited to EKU, he still could be considering MSU or Marshall.

EKU has signed Eric Stutz, Robbie Stenzel and Timmy Knipp. Nothing about this kid is mentioned.

Agree with you Strikeout King. I looked up the stats for the Powell Co team and he wasn't even on the roster. Here is a link to their stats:

I am always keeping up with kids across the state, but this one never heard of.
