People are saying that there will be some shuffling around of coaching responsibilities on the current staff. South should have a winning season in 2011.some of the boys are working hard in the weightroom and as for the coachs there are only 2 that have been up there all the time the other part timers just started showing up so they might have a chance at saving their jobs for next season and someone had to call them that shows how interested they are in the kids

SL was playing alot of 10th graders last season.
NL has won 9 ball games in 2 years and that is the most wins they have accumulated in a two year span since 2002-2003 when they also won 9 games in two years. So that is 7-8 years of getting the program to what was its highest.
SL didnt have a QB, they had a really good TB who had to play QB. They will be better.
Since the merger there have been only 2 really good teams from both schools and that was the 1994 NL Jags who won district in a tough 4A division and 1999 SL who almost won the region.
These arent traditional powerhouse schools or even close to it.

I thought the Principal at Jackson County had promised Justin Gray the Head Coaching job at Jackson County in a few weeks!!! I am confused as to why he would take the OC position at South if he is going to be at Jackson County!!!

All I know is this Gray guy wasn't around for the playoff run of LCA this season. I am not sure what he did during that time, but I was told that Coach Cotton, the old LCA offensive coordinator was asked by Coach Graham to come back and help him call the offense during the playoffs. So I am not sure what happened with that situation. To my knowledge Coach Graham was his own offensive coordinator including the passing game. Fans that went to the playoff games told me that Coach Cotton was on top of the pressbox with a headset helping with offense.

I think Coach Gray might be the best self promoter in the entire state of Kentucky when it comes to coaching. Not saying he is a bad coach but for a guy that only coached one year and to not even finish the year to be getting this much attention is ridiculous. And in that season LCA's offense dropped off. I don't get saying the system sucks while using a reference to Leach as a compliment.
But on the other hand if he is as good as he says and we can get him at South I am all for it.

Jeremy Kidd, Matthew Powenski, Mike Sizemore, Kyle Mink, Shane Bundy, and Ryan Prewitt are the assistants.

You are correct. Lca played Berea, raceland, fairview. They had already beaten them once very easily. He actually followed Hazard around for 3 games scouting. Also I don't know about cotton??? I do know that in the regional finals game Gray was on the sideline. I saw him personally. I am pretty sure from what I know about Ray he does everything. He even invented the pistol and was doing it in the 70's.lol but you got to love him.

Good Morning,
This is Jay Gray, as much I appreciate the positive comment's I laughed at some very humerous posts also. I must say the coaches I am in contact with have my credentials and have spoken to Coach Graham. I appreciate many things that were said, but a few posts are a little off. I hopefully will find a place to call home in the near future and will help kids and coaching staff out the best I can. Once again I appreciate the positives and will take the negatives in stride. Also "Mr. Rambo" is hilarious...........

It means that as soon as the contracts are up (after spring ball, end of school, whatever) a few coaches will be let go to make room for folks who can get things done. I don't know what ALL schools do and don't really care.

Isn't it weird that this passing game coordinator would be sent to scout during these important games.
Isn't it weird that this Mike Leach clone doesn't run the air-raid offense?
Isn't it weird that he wouldn't know about a consulting head coach and former coordinator helping out on game day?

This thread is great. If south really wanted to get rid of a coach they don't have to let the contract run out, they've pink slipped them in the spring in the past.
I am the newest member of the coach gray fan club, for a guy that has virtually no coaching resume. To be mentioned this much, he has to be great. He's an OC that skips the playoffs, He's like Mike Leach except his offense is better because the system sucks, This stuff is great.

I will call him Mr when he earns his strips on the football field, did LCA demote him before the season was over. I earned my strips in desert storm (something I don't talk about) but that don't make me a football coach. Sounds like South Laurel is putting a bandaid on a broke leg and everybody knows that want fix it. I hope I'm wrong and South goes 14-0 would sure make the popcorn taste better

I love it! You guys must be psychic or something to determine that I am touchy based on a "written" comment. I am, in fact, a matter-of-fact guy. Here are the facts:
1. I don't care what any other school does.
2. Justin Gray will be the new OC @ SL in 2011.
3. There will be at least one other new coach (Another current coach will be let go.).
4. Everyone was happy about Powenski until they went 4-17.
5. Gray's offense will score points and keep the defense off the field.
6. Gray doesn't use "the system".
7. The System is not the only passing game centric offense in existence.
8. Gray doesn't have to justify where he was or what he did at LCA.
9. Graham wouldn't have listened to Jim Harbaugh (It was Graham's show.).
10. SL will have a winning season in 2011.
That's all I have to say on this subject folks. Have a great life!

Gray may be the best in the state, but with only one year calling plays, don't see how anyone can say alot about that. It ain't the play calling at SL. That is not the remedy.

Well I guess I now know why everyone hates SL, I always heard they were pretty arrogant and cocky, know everything and full of themselves. From the sounds of fans on here, it seems to me that the fans are the problem. I guess they expect nothing but the best since they think they are the best. Is people in the city at SL that bad or is it that they are just used to having everything given to them and expect other teams to just lay down for them.
03-02-2011, 11:34 PM
South Laurel will not have a winning season in 2011. You can take that to the bank!
03-02-2011, 11:38 PM
SL will have a winning season this year regardless of a change due to their schedule. But the system is not really a set of plays its a way of practicing and playing. From the sounds of it Gray has never used any system. So you can't say he uses the system or not. Coaches are not tenured they can be let go they are not bound to keep them for a year. Its just annoying that there is a huge axe to grind for a kid that has 0 experience.

Doesnt every coach have a system. rockcastle used to be a power running team, now we are going to throw more from the gun from what I hear.
03-03-2011, 08:53 AM
I hear the X-BOX system is pretty good. Just put in some of those formations and plays from the T.V. and the players will become bigger, faster, stronger, smarter, fundamentally sound, and fans will show up in droves. One side effect of the X-BOX system is that the defense will automatically improve as well and the wins will just start piling up. :HitWall:
