Should Highlands be content just winning in 2011?

'class' when they are proud without being arrogant.

Sure wish some would follow this idea

My memory isn't the best, but no I don't remember any of my high school football coaches at Highlands telling me that our goal should be to beat all of our opponents by 60 plus points to try and humiliate them and put doubts in the minds of our future opponents. Maybe they did, but I certainly don't remember it. Even if they they did, I'm old enough and wise enough to know that coaches say things to motivate players that the coaches don't always mean. But I'll see Homer this coming week and ask him if he told his teams when he was the head coach at Highlands that message.

No problem for mistaking me for a woman. I have a couple of women in my family that know a lot more about the game of football than a lot of my male friends so I'm not offended at all and no apology was needed. Heck for that matter I thought (and still do) think I'm talking to someone who rose to the ranks of a manager on his high school football team.

We pay for a ticket to watch a full game only to get cheated just to save the fellings of a lousy team. Give me a break! I say, kick that bunch of losers in the backside again and again, it will teach them a good lesson. To all of you that are going to jump on me and have a hissy fit, I say get a life! This is football! OK, let the tears flow, and the snot roll! :lmao::popcorn:

Maybe one day you'll be fortunate enough to have a son that is on the losing end of one of these 'beatdowns'; then see how much you like them.

I hate to defend the managers, because some of them are still hanger ons, but you took an unnecessary shot at them. Some of the managers were more dedicated than some of the players. Others had handicaps and just wanted to be one of the guys. I can't say I've never taken a verbal shot at one the managers, but I have very fond memories of those guys. Not everyone is physically gifted enough to be a player. If 2 dog was a manager, he was needed in that capacity.

Okay, then I apologize to the managers, many of whom I know personally and most of them are between the ages of 8 and 14 years old and as such aren't very mature. I'm sorry you missed the, what should have been pretty darn obvious, sarcasm in my post responding to 2dog's comment about him thinking I was a woman. I was comparing the maturity of his posts with a 10 year old, if that helps you understand more clearly.

I re-read. Got your humor. I know you weren't slamming the managers and know that wasn't your intent. The managers are now younger kids more so these days. There was a time when it was mostly other high schoolers than just weren't capable of playing.

Good. I really wasn't trying to insult 2dog and certainly wasn't intending to insult the managers. Again, I know most of them and I think it's great that those young kids are up there and involved in the football program. I just see no real benefit to beating a team by 60 plus points just for the sake of winning by 60 plus points and didn't appreciate the intended "slap" by him saying he thought he was talking to a woman when responding to my post(particularly since I'd played for Highlands, was pretty successful at doing it in some people's eyes, and have given a lot of blood and sweat to the football program over the years since).

Win handily, get the back ups in early in the second half so they can get some experience to prepare them if a starter gets hurt or to prepare them for the following year when they start. I'm fine with that.

I just thought the tone of some posts was that we needed to humiliate the kids on other teams. I know some think "it's football" and that is somehow akin to "locate, close with and destroy the enemy". I view high school athletics as being different than that.

Even if one does not put any weight into the sportsmanship concern of beating teams by 60 plus points, one should consider that we have a hard time filling out a schedule, per Dale. Humiliating kids, coaches and opposing teams makes that task much more difficult. We had to schedule Ryle twice in 09 and 10 or be forced to play a 9 game schedule. Fortunately, for the next two years we don't have that issue. Beat some of the teams on the schedule by 60 plus points while keeping starters in the game the entire game and I'm sure some on the schedule will not re-up in a couple of years. Plus coaches of other teams won't want to schedule us either. If that happens we could be faced with playing an 8 or 9 game schedule, which is not good economically for the program ,or nor is it good for the preparation of a team for the playoffs.

Ok Charlie, you played football for Highlands and was pretty darn good at it. You need to put this behind you b/c you're starting to sound like an old worn out 8 track.

Thanks. I'll consider the source of the advise and give it the proper amount of consideration.

I want the starters to play a full three quarters, then the fourth goes to the backups. There's nothing worse IMO from a players perspective, than working all week, looking forward to playing a game all week, then on Friday night having to stand on the sidelines half the game because you succeeded.

Wow i havent logged on in months and it seems the infighting amongst Bird fans continues. There is no point running the score up especially with the mercy rule.

We're not arguing. We're having a discussion! We're just trying to decide how much we should win by. That's a good problem to have.
