Russell @ Belfry 11/19
Belfry by 3 points
FBALL Wrote:"No respect"

I don't think it was back handed. Its just a fact that many from the mountains are more familier with Belfry's history than they are with Russell's.

In all honesty they are about even historically speaking. Both have 300 win coaches. Both have been very good consistantly for a long time.

Russell
2 State Championships
1 State Runner up
10 Regional Championships
18 District Championships

I think Both of these schools expect to be playing this far in the playoffs.

And lets not forget that they were both in the same district for a good number of years when only the district champ went to the playoffs. Those were some real battles as well.

Russell leads the series with Belfry 12-9.
Yep..as I said it was an unintentional on the poster's behalf. Russell's tradition speaks for itself and they are far from a "new face" to make a deep playoff run. There are a lot of parallels between these two programs, and also a lot of mutual respect.

It is shame that Russell will be moving to 2A... it took a great number of years for these two programs to rekindle the rivalry and it will be sad to see them have to wait a decade or more to further play games. It is conceivable that this will be the last time Haywood and McGlone ever go head to head again.

That's why I am not sure the "no respect" card will fly this week against Belfry. Haywood's respect for McGlone and the Russell program will be strongly conveyed to his team by gametime, and the fact Russell took care of two district teams in PC and SC who were in all actuality Belfry's equals, will also resonate.

I expect a back and forth slugfest and will be shocked to see this game decided by double figures.

I am pretty sure Russell is staying in 3A. I thought that their request was granted to stay in 3A. Maybe I am wrong. Anyway.. Go Pirates!

Don't bet on it..we have the KHSAA in our pocket...ask Pike Central. At best they may give you a neutral site game at Pikeville or something.

I believe that. Thats 4 out of 5 in the playoffs where we have had to come to Belfry.

Ah, but there is good reason for that.

2004 @ Belfry
2005 @ Russell
2006 @ Belfry
2008 @ Belfry
2010 @ Belfry

One of these things is not like the other,... :eyeroll: (everybody, sing along)

You see the pattern, right FBALL?
Just because I see it doesn't mean I have to like it. A few of those were under the old alignment. If I remember correctly we would have had to travel to Belfry in 07 as well. Breathitt saved us the trip by knocking us off the week before that year.

I think you are mistaken, that one goes "It's not a level playing field when ___________ can recruit and get by with it anyway." Then again, that might just be the preamble.
Its all fun and games till someone gets a toe stepped on. Lets get I back to topic please. Thank you

Hey, does anyone know which way Russell will be come in? Which is the fastest way?
blazin_ky Wrote:Hey, does anyone know which way Russell will be come in? Which is the fastest way?

In 08 the buses came down the WV side, which is faster, and they returned 119S to Pikeville then 23N
Thanks!
Also this maybe the last time McGlone and Haywood may face each other anyway because this could be McGlone's last year (not for sure, just my opinion) because of some health issues. I'm NOT starting anything this is just by observations from watching him this year. But if it is it has been REALLY FUN watching these two GREAT coaches go at each other for all these year's.

Killing time waiting on the wife to get home from work. BORING

Heading out of Flatwoods about 3 or 3:30. Should get there by 6 so I can tailgate and hope to watch a good football game.
I think the best route to Belfry from Russell is 23 south to 645 to old rt 40 to rt 52 then it runs to 119. Seems to be quicker

No way guys..That takes you guys right through Martin county and then up ro Belfry. Belfry is another 40 minutes beyond Inez. Go 23 south all the way to 119 then back down to Belfry. Thats better roads and a lot less turns. Less chance of getting lost. You go right by Pike County Central that way. Maybe you can wave at them for all of us!!!:howdy:
