Highlands is still the PROHIBITIVE favorite in this game, and we all know it. PROHIBITIVE. I'm realistic. I realize this is our best shot in the last three years to pull the upset and I believe we can compete, but that means the point spread is only maybe 10 or 11 this season instead of the usual 26 or 28. Those jerseys still say Highlands, after all. 5A is still theirs until somebody takes it away.
If we beat HHS in the playoffs, in my book, it's the upset of the decade, the biggest win in school history period, and I'm going to burn a couch in celebration. Nothing but respect here. So just realize your bulletin board material isn't coming from Johnson County.
Hey, I've already patented the Lou Holtz posting style for this site.
Yes the jerseys still say Highlands and our small players will play their hearts out. Yes we won the championship last year, but that was last year.
You've got Jude, Hall, Bratton and Ousley, all outstanding players. You've got a dramatically improved O line leading the way and opening huge holes. You've got an outstanding offensive system that has presented some problems for better Highlands teams in the past. You've got an outstanding Coach that has turned JC's program around in just a few years. You've worked on your passing game. This is the year, I've read and been told, for JC to beat Highlands and that JC has the better team. The two way players are fully conditioned and able to play a full game without showing any fatigues. You beat CovCath by a bigger margin than Highlands did, so you must be a better team.
I've read all those things on this site from JC supporters over the last couple of months. You are playing at home. You have to be the favorite, although I won't be quite as outlandish as you and claim that JC will be a prohibitive favorite. It will be an upset if Highlands wins at your place.

I respectfully disagree. We (JC) may be a much better team than in past years, but until we are able to get a win over a Highlands team, that is still a very, very good, JC is still the underdog and Highlands the favorite. It will take a perfect effort from JC Friday night to even have a chance to win and if they do it will be considered an upset and the biggest win in any sport in school history.
My prayer is that both teams compete at their best and nobody is injured in this game from either team.

The SEEK formula isn't very kind to Highlands. A large portion of privately raised dollars went into the recent renovation of the educational facilities which take precedence over the athletic facilities (and should). Heck, against Dixie this year our crew had to broadcast from behind one endzone at field level (no room in the press box) and against Ryle this year, they weren't able to broadcast at all due to the lack of space. Things like this happen and if that gets folks all lathered up, they either must not have real problems in their lives or they are looking for something to complain about.Well you see Charlie it worked. I got a nasty response from you and I got a zzzzz from Dig It. Thread was getting pretty dry, with nothing much else new to talk about. I was the worm and you guys were the bass. Come on now, I even mentioned that all I was trying to do was get a rise out of you all in the post.
If I recall properly, your broadcast crew got moved to the same area that members of our Education Foundation (who pay at least $500 a year) were sitting, so it's not like it was some shabby area. The area is covered and there are heaters present. If your idea of wrought iron chairs is a lawn chair, you must really live high on the hog.
I will agree that it was unfortunate that the move was done at the last moment, and for that I apologize. The guy in charge of stadium administration that night made a mistake and originally set your crew up in an area they weren't supposed to be in, which wasn't realized until right before game time.
Now who was that you mentioned about getting all "lathered up" ?

The south will rise again!!!!
Sorry could not help myself.
Should be a very fun game to watch. Paintsville will be rocking on Fri night.

I can assure you many are aware of it, but it is an excellent point. When you look at the teams that have beaten JC and the yards they've given up rushing on the year Highlands is right there with both of them.
Boyle: 850
Bell:1104
Highlands: 1087
Covington Catholic: 2900

Great point. Great rushers vs. stout run Defense. Something's gotta give tomorrow night. I think it's Johnson Central's rushing totals. Mr. Jude will get his yards, maybe even 200+, but I think these stats are significant.

Man, if you consider my response to be nasty then you've confirmed my point that some JC people are looking for stuff to get riled up about. :lmao:
Actually I was trying to simply explain how the situation unfolded. As noted in my prior post, I actually apologized for the inconvenience caused to your broadcasting crew. I and many others felt bad that the crew was moved at the last minute. An apology is a nasty post? You are killing me Bob.
You didn't get a rise out of me; you did cause me to explain how the situation occurred and pointed out that your crew got relocated to a pretty darn good spot. If you feel my explanation was evidence of me getting worked up, you are sadly, sadly mistaken.
We may be the bass and ate the worm, but we then spit the hook to swim another day. Hopefully the Birds will win tomorrow night and will be able to play another game in a week.

Come on Chuck, It takes a great big man (and that's exactly the type of guy you are) to admit when he's gotten baited. Again, did you not notice that I gave you all a preamble of my intentions? Thus a no-reply would have been totally acceptable. Seeing that this is playoff season (you're nervous, on edge, and all that), I'll let it slide and not rub it in.
Of course, Chuck you know I'm just kidding around, I respect your posts a great deal. You're one of the better ones.

Didn't know if this had been discussed but here's some scheule analysis:
Highlands has defeated 4 teams with winning records: Ryle (29-14), Beechwood (50-24), Withrow (34-27), Eastern (46-0)
Johnson Central has defeated 5 teams with winning records: Knox Central (29-28 in OT), Breathitt (28-6), Ashland (42-26), Montgomery (56-20), Belfry (42-7)
Highlands lone loss was to Ryle (28-26), a team they also defeated once.
Johnson Central's 2 losses were to Boyle (36-29) and Bell (42-18).

You are silly, but you got one thing right for certain: I am nervous, on edge and all that. JC has one heck of a great team and the Birds have a very tough row to hoe in front of them tomorrow night. JC is definitely the favorite. A lot of focus and attention has been given to Jude and his exceptional running abilities, but it's the running of Hall, Bratton and Ousley that may determine the outcome of this game and they are all exceptional football players.

With the exception of a couple of posters on both sides that are nuttier than squirrel turds, this has so far been a great discussion. It sounds to me that both teams have the guns to win this one. Let's all pray for a great game with all players walking off the field of battle healthy. - GO BIRDS!

I think when the Varsity D went out with 7 min left in the game Jude had around 70-75 yards and (0) TD's.
All but maybe 1 or 2 starters remained in the game all the way through...watch the film when Sanor caught the pass, you can get a good glimpse at Hilton and crew still in the ball game.

The way I see this game is Highlands is still the favorite, the State Champ. To Highlands this is just another playoff game on the way to another title. To JC this is the most important game in the schools football history to date. JC has their best shot ever, but will have to play like a State Champ to beat Highlands. I feel they are up to it.
The game boils down to which coach can adjust during the game to counter the other team. Highlands coach is good at this, but Matney is the master here. I give a close edge to JC.

I went back to our thread from way back when.
This is straight from the Middlesboro Daily News of what Dudley said after the game.....
âThey scored two touchdowns late in the game when we tried to put some subs in there,â Hilton said. âThey kept their starters in â I donât know if they were going for stats or what. I know Jude got quite a few yards there at the end.
âI take Cory (Davenport) out when weâve got the game won. That probably hurts our kids a little bit when we donât build up stats, but we had them whooped convincingly.â
