JJ Jude breaks State Record tonight with 583 yards rushing...

Congrats J.J.
#32
Boy if he had got hurt in garbage time how would Matney feel? Congrats to the young man but it is very selfish for his Coach to put him in that situation.

JJ Jude is one of the hardest runners I've ever seen. He refuses to go down. Congrats.

Do you think Matney kept him in the game against his will? Do you think Matney kept him in the game to serve a selfish need? Or do you think he LET him stay in and set a state record as a reward for his hard work. I think its horrible for coaches to hold kids back. I agree its a team sport and I am sure JJ always puts the team first. However I think he deseves a chance to set records and be great.

What a performance! JJ may be in line for his third KHS GameNight Player of the Week Award. As a side note (I guess it is actually a question) does this vault Jude into the rushing leader spot in the state? I would think he would have to be close.

Also, has anyone seen or heard the official rushing stats for the game? We went with the stats from the radio (usually very accurate) but with the margin being so slim (9 yds) it is possible that the official stats could be slightly different.

Congrats to the young man!! The chance to break a state record doesn't come often...It is something the Jude family can cherish a long time...let them enjoy.....:thanks:

Let's congraulate JJ on on super job.

Matney had his defense let Woodford County score so they could get the ball back and try to break the record. There is no justification for that.

Congrats to Jude, the coach's actions are not his fault.

Monster man. No any coach wouldn't do this. If Bell County would leave Cory
Davenport in most games he would break state record every friday. And that goes the same for most of our backs. I am sure if they had the touches that Mr. Jude gets they would break the state record. But at Bell County we are focused on winning games, not breaking state records. We are more of a team rather than a great player.

There is no doubt in anyone's mine that JJ is a tremendous athlete and a great running back. Scary thing is the fact that he is only a Junior. He will be returning next year for Coach Matney. You also bring up the fact that JJ is tremendous wrestler for Coach Matney on his wrestling team. Which blows my mind even more in the fact that he would leave his star running back and best player and a great wrestler on his wrestling team in a game for the selfish reason of breaking a record. I do applaud JJ on his effort and yes he does deserve a reward and accomplishment for his achievements. But this reward should not come in a slop game, against a less than average team. When your team is up by 40+ at half time and you already have 300 yards it is time to call it a night, which is what most coaches with class do. Take coach hilton for example we were up big at halftime and he let every starter, both offense and defense leave their helmets and shoulder pads in the locker room.

Congrats JJ Jude! I knew this kid was solid when we played them the first game of the season. Impressive!
#40
Congrats to Jude. This kid is a great RB. Reminds me a lot of former LC great Nick Meadows.
#41
Big congrats to Mr. Judd.
#42
i would also like congratulate jude on a great game but lets not forget his team mates that got him there were he is now i know he could not get out of the back field without the mansion blocks layed down by ousley and bratton you can't forget it takes a team . only a team will make it past play offs !!!!!!!!
#43
Congrats to Jude on the record. But does anyone else feel like several teams in the state could do this if they really wanted to?
#44
way to go j..to all you haters talkin abt matney showing no class the score was 69 35, dont get me wrong this game was very 1 sided and could have been worse matney did pull the startes in the 3rd but jude stayed in and ran the ball he refused to leave the game..this kid always wants to play..jude could have had 9 tds in this game 2 runs called back and 1 play he ran abt 45-50 yrds only to run out of bounds on the 5 when he cld have scored, matney then lined up to kick a field goal on 1st down with woodford blocked and scored on...

Matman Wrote:Congrats to JJ. This isn't anything like what Matewan did. Matewan ran up the score against a team with 13 players. If you knew the rivalry between Matney and WC you might understand. It crosses over from wrestling. But i think its a nice gift to the young man that has worked so hard. Hats off to Jude you deserve it.

why is not the same,13players or not, JC had they game well in control, and wrestling shouldnt have nothing to do with it, that should be left for the mats, there alot of young men that works hard everyday, there coach dont do that and risk injury..i thought Coach Matteny had more class than that...

I have not made a post in over a year. Congrats to JJ on a great feat! Ge is one of the hardest working and most dedicated young men out there!
But is it true that JCHS had several chances to put the game to a 45 point lead and thus a running clock? I heard that one time up around 40 points, that a player ran out of bounds on the 10 yard line to keep the score from reaching 45+ and that JCHS attempted a field goal on first down from there?? even heard that they were just allowing WC to score just to keep the game going....please, someone tell me that this did not go on? It would in a lot of oppinions tarnish a great performance. Again though, congrats are definately in order!

thats impressive all those yards against freshmen

I sure hope this did not happen. The kid is a good athlete, and I congradulate him, but I think JC should focus on state championships and not individual records. This game would have been a good game to get the younger kids that are the future of the program to get some quality mins in varsity action.

Lets not forget we all sign up for football to play the game. Matney wasn't trying to run up the score. Jude did not want to quit playing. Should he be punished because WC couldn't stop him. And yes wrestling does have something to do with it. The rivalry carries over for JJ I am sure. He will se some of these same kids alot during the season and this just gives him more of an edge.
#50
Hey, JJ earnede this and had the opurtunity. Woodford kept their starters in the whole game and scored 38 points. Matney was subbing guys in the first quarter. All this talk about not running up the score and you see scores like 70 to 7! Get over it!

Jude had been singled out all year long and has drug one or two guys with him all the time. He has seen Dawson, Hilton and the likes so he has not had an easy way. He is playing behind a very young line. if he had the line some of these schools have it was be awesome what he could do.

The game was fair and Jude earned every yard.

The younger players did get quality minutes and a lot of them. I think everyone that knows coach Matney will agree that he does what he can for his boys and he is more than capable of keeping his eye on a state championship as well as any kind of individual records. Again, congratulations to JC for opening the holes for your team mate to get through and a big congratulations to JJ for running his tail off last night. GREAT job!!!!!

Great Job Mr Jude

Terrible coaching letting your star back stay in the game and it that far out of reach
#55
Congratulations to J. J. Jude. There is no question in my mind that you are the best running back ever to play at Johnson Central. That great work ethic will serve you well throughout your football career and beyond. Well done!
#56
Absolutely, congrats to Mr Jude for a very fine performance. You are a great high school back and I always enjoy watching you play even though I'm not really looking forward to facing you later in the season. Smile

Great job by a fine young man.

Does a coach let a player have extra carries for a record. SURE

Is it wrong? NO

Situations happen all the time in all sports.

Does anyone that truly knows Jim Matney think that he would leave in a player, especially J.J., and risk injury? ABSOLUTLY NOT
#58
Congrats to J.J. Jude. I see no problem in letting him break the record. For it to be a record someone had to do it in the past and I am sure it was against a team that was a little inferior to them. Regardless of the situation, who is anyone to judge Coach Matney, he knew what he wanted to do and it turned out alright for him and J.J. Nice to have the state record sitting right here in the mountains. I see no problem with letting a young man achieve an individual goal because I have coached against this team and I know that J.J. will share this accomplishment with his team-mates and I am positive that his team-mates are extremely proud of him for this achievement.

Back in the late 60's, freshmen were not allowed to play varsity basketball in college. Joe B. Hall was then an assistant to Rupp and was over the conditioning program. Joe B.'s program was so brutal that several of the team refused to continue with the conditioning. Rupp had a prized recruit that he personally went and talked to. He asked this prized freshman if he would listen to Hall and do whatever it was he wanted. He promised this young man that if he would follow Hall's conditioning program that he would make him the all time leading scorer in the history of Kentucky basketball. This player did go ahead and continue on with the running and Rupp did keep his promise. That player was Dan Issel and he did indeed become the all time leading scoring in the history of Kentucky basketball.

Does anyone want to argue that Rupp was not all about winning? Anyone want to argue that the only thing Rupp cared about was to win a national title? Yet he helped one of his players break every personal scoring record at the University of Kentucky, rewarding him for his loyalty, devotion, and hard work.

True story.

The problem with what the coach did is that he purposely created a situation from early on in the game where this kid could set a state record if all that is said is true. Sure, if a kid is near a record, you let him get it. Apparenetly this kid is an awesome player and I would love to see him run, but he should have never been withing 300 yards of the record. I have seen several players over the years have way over 200 yards at half time. Do you know what their coaches did, they pulled them to keep them form getting hurt and to keep from humiliating the other team. The coach should have pulled him to save him for when his TEAM needed him, not when the coach had a need to do this. If they truly allowed the other team to score just so they could get back on offense espeically earily in the game, there is no debating whether this was a class act or not.

Once again, Congrats to Jude, but the coach should be ashamed.
