Best 3A Teams next year?
#91
I don't know much about the entire group of 3A teams but it seems PT and Central are always on the top looking down. But I do agree the 3A is always to most wide open class.

The East this year will not compare to the west side, hands down, unless some unknown players make a huge step up.

My rankings are mostly based in the top 5, because from there on is no desicive teams where one definately over powers another, and even in the top 5 the skill level is very much the same. however here it goes, as to who will win the tourny in December.

1. Union Co- looses a Qb, but returns Devon Foster and 17 starters over 15 seniors, went through the loss of a death of there top player on the line and probly 2nd overall on the team, there top player was out with a knee injury 7 games, and several other injuries affected them all season. with a healthy roster this team has MANY players who could end up on the next level. the line will take a few hits. but nothing like last year with the loss of timothy mckenney who playyed both ways.

2. Paducah Tilghman- the speed of tilghman last year was unheard of until the second round of playoffs when they passed union. there QB who won the championship, will not be returning, and Cox union has handled ever game played against him since the start of these seniors careers. they also loose there RB, and a few others. i dont see them using the same wildcat tactics as last year or having the players to pull a switch around like last year. paducah will be watch and not taken lightly.

3. central- although they loose possible the best roster a 3a team as produced in the last few decades, central will come to play, and a few new names will appear as do every year. speed and practice make this team too much of a threat for any teams other than the listed above to play with, but we will see how well the coach can truely pull them together.

4. Belfry- the young team will make alot of adjustments this year probably find there rhyme and do some magic to make it to the finals from the east, however, loosing verney and other is going to be hard to replace.

5. Russellville- Looked very good on tape last year, actually had tilghman in the regional game until there very end and had a large lead until the second half. this team could potentially spark a fire like tilghman did going unnoticed and pull off some major upsets this season.

There maybe a few surprises from the east in 2010. Belfry was mentioned, and from what I've heard, they are in a rebuilding season. But they have a great coach and tradition going for them, that may make them a threat in 2010.

Then there's is Sheldon Clark, who came on strong in the play-offs. As I understand it, they are returning a good group of young men who saw a lot of action in 2009. They just may surprise some of the football pundits.

Likewise, do not count out Pikeville Central; they have been improving the last couple years, and will be a force to be reckoned with.

To sum it up, however, only the games on Friday nights' will confirm our thoughts, or on the other hand, disavow those thoughts and predictions.

Good luck to all in 2010!

To make predictions is a lot of fun, but the "proof is in the pudding," and realistically, your last statement is what counts.

Central and PT, everyone else is trying to get to them! I think you will see Breathitt, or Belfry, maybe and PCC or Mason come out of the east, Henry County, or an E-town may give Central a scare, but its all just minor details til Central plays PT and that will decide your champion.

There might be another one to come out of the east, and that is Sheldon Clark. But maybe I'm wrong in my assessment; projecting is fun, although none of us has a crystal ball. We shall all see come the latter part of November.

I think you are right on Sheldon Clark. I am just a little prejudice, however, regarding SC, since I have a grandson on the team. I like to see all the teams in Eastern KY do well, and good luck to all.
Since reclassification, Central has lost a total of ONE game to another 3a school that was to PT who went on to win the state ... I believe Central's 3a record is 20-1.
Win or lose, PT will bring merciless team speed to the table in 2010. As I recall, 11 games after his ankle sprain, and on a night when he had to produce, Devon Foster gained 13 yards on 14 carries. The defense that held Union County to 57 total yards in the playoff returns practically intact and every bit as hungry. BTW, the new fullback benches 325 and the prospective QB is #1 in scout.com 2012 Ky. prospects, just to set the scene for this fall. A lot can happen and a lot can change between now and then. Hope everybody in 3A has a rewarding year.

i believe Belfry has only lost 3....last year to SC, year b4 to Breahitt in the semis, and year b4 that lost in finals to Central..

You would be correct.

Since re-classification Belfry is 35-6 overall and 21-3 vs. other 3A teams.

Belfry has outscored 3A teams 982-305 in that time period for an average final score of 41-13.

Belfry's 3 losses have came by a combined total of 18 points.

That is certainly a phenominal record, one that Belfry can definitely be proud of.
i believe there getting ready to go on another run, dont know if it will be like the last one but i hope so or better..
Central plays Male, Ballard ,Manual ,Henry Clay ,& ST.X, as their non district schedual. Beating 6A powers such as Male & Ballard the last two years, you can also throw in another win vs 6A Louisville power PRP. They have also given ST.X their closest non games outside of Trinity & one of the Ohio powers. They have 4 players in the last two years and have two in " THE LEAGUE ". What their scoring record against 3a opponents must be absurd.
well i guess we should just skip the season and have Belfry play Central for the 3a title....
I do know Spencer put a scare in Central in last year's playoffs.Spencer lost by 13 but had the ball at midfield down 7 with under 5 min to play.Central is not unbeatable.I take it a step further and say they are not really well coached, just great athletes with more speed than anybody they play.
When Central came to Paducah in the 2009 playoff semis, they were supremely overconfident; enough so that they walked by Tilghman's players during opening warm-ups yelling 'you're in our way' and 'get out of our way.' Turned out to be a huge motivator for Tilghman's kids. One would hope the ride home was a teachable moment for Ty.

Situations as you described above, makes me think that it is always best to speak softly but carry a big stick. Many times talk is cheap. In fact, most times.

thats the truth they did, i was there and i am a Belfry fan, but man they was cocky, glad Tilman came back in that game and won..
Don't count Breathitt out in the EAST.
Union did beat paducah twice in the last 2 years, they were district 1 champs, and will be this year again.

anyhow, central without tim patterson, stephen robinson, and there qb chris king, just isnt the same team, as we saw last year.

this year for the 3A TITLE COMES DOWN TO WHAT TEAMS DID IN THE OFFSEASON, and injuries ofcourse, but who ever busted there ***** all OFFseason will be kings of 3A period.
Hard work, perseverance, desire, and talent will go a long way. And as was mentioned previously, minimal injuries also adds to the equation of producing a winning team.
Wait till you see what Central has they are going to come about about 100 deep &about 50 of those guys will really be able to play
That's the same type of talk we heard about Central last summer. And we know how that turned out. Best of luck.
Coachdad Wrote:Wait till you see what Central has they are going to come about about 100 deep &about 50 of those guys will really be able to play

That's a huge number of players for a 3A team!
Probably will happen
It turned out by them nearly winning there 3rd title in a row they lost in the semifinals in close game they led most of on the road . 20-1
a poster above mentioned Central loses patterson, king, and robinson...this is true but if you look closer at central one will notice that diaz bolden took over at qb in week 9 and did fine and is faster than king.patterson was hurt in rd 1 and didnt play anymore and they still made deep run.name to remember is Ace Wells, kid is junior this year and can flat out fly.and yes central will be deep as always.
