Bell/Rockcastle rivalry

Amped 88 Wrote:In the late 80's and 90 they were in the same district but I could be wrong.

Rock went to 2A in 1991. If they have been in Bell's district then the Rock would have been state champs.

Take away a few players from Bell Co and see what they could have done.

Hilton came to Bell Co. in 1983. He left to Bourbon Co. for 4 years is 1997-2000. Came back to Bell in 2001.

Wonder how Bell wasn't state champs since they beat the Rock during those years?

I don't believe that Bell played Rock in 1991, 1992, etc...

I took at is if the post was referring to the time period mentioned before lwc. Thanks for clearing that up. But Bell still won't give back their title in 91!!!! lol

Gotcha. I didn't know Bell won State in 1991. VERY belated congratulations, lol.

It always strikes me as odd how whenever Bell has a great team, Rockcastle is down, and whenever Rockcastle has a great team, Bell is down. There are a few exceptions but look back at the team records. I was just noticing that today.

It is amazing to look at when these two teams have been in the same district: Rockcastle has 3 or 4 regional championships and I would say that Bell county has about the same. Who won region in the past 10 years whenever these to teams didn't?

Keep in mind that "being down" to these two teams is anything less than a State Championship/apperance obviously but in a serious manner, at LEAST a Regional Championship. Needless to say, Rock has been down for a few years.

If I looked at the tournament brackets correctly this is the answer to my own question:

Regional Championships over the decade:
2009-Bell County
2008-Bell County
2007-Lexington Catholic
2006-Johnson Central
2005-Rockcastle County
2004-Bell County
2003-Mason County
2002-Rockcastle County
2001-Rockcastle County
2000-Rockcastle County

WOW! 7 of the last ten REGIONAL Championships are from the same current district (I know the districts were different for some of those years) pretty good if you ask me. Big Grin

There were even a couple of hiccups along the way. For example Bell going 6-5 and their loss to Ashland-Blazer in the first round back in 2000, Bell's loss to Boyd County in the first round and Rockcastle 2-point loss on the road to Mason County in 2003. Also, the AMAZING 2004 Bell County team that played against Highlands, who eventually had to forfeit that win. If they had of been penalized earlier, Bell might have won the whole thing...who knows? Rockcastle ran into the great Shawn Grim in 2006. What a player he was! Bell ran into one of the fastest teams that I have seen in the 2007 Lexington Catholic State Champions!

Sorry, I tend to get on the football forum and ramble, :lmao: my apologies. That just goes to show the dominance that Bell, Rock and Boyle have had on the 2000 decade for 3A-4A whenever all three were in it.

why would bell need to give back their state title?

Bell didn't win the region in 07 they were runner up. Bell and Lex Cath were in the same region that year. It was a blind draw that year.

We were kidding about a post someone else had made. Start at the top of this page and you'll see what I'm talking about. I was being nice about their post. And I'm not referring lwc. He's a good guy to talk to.

I was starting to say being down to these teams are good years in general most of the time. Rock has been down lower than what anyone expected the last few years but they'll be back.

Can anyone say that this is probably the greatest rivalary in the SE part of Kentucky?

Generals2010 Wrote:Can anyone say that this is probably the greatest rivalary in the SE part of Kentucky?

even being a bell fan i would say no. i think you would have to define SE Kentucky, but there are other schools out there that have been playing each other longer and have alot more animosity towards each other.

i do think that this is one of the games were each team circle on their calender and base the success for the season on the outcome.

I don't know for sure if it is or not. When you first asked that I thought no, but as I thought about it more, it just might be considering you said se ky. They are now our #1 seasonal rivalry game. Of course we had mboro and corbin but those games no longer exist. I think that's a very good question. I can't think of a bigger rivalry game in this area.

Thats what I thought too. I mean Middlesboro is still a rivalry but when Bell spanked Middlesbor so much on a consistant basis its not so much a rivalry. Corbin was definitely one but like you said non exsistance. So Rock is a very viable choice.

When I think of " Se Ky" I can't think of a bigger rivalry. But, I'm sure someone will feel as if their school and someone else they play would be a bigger rivalry. I can't argue that with anyone. I guess it's how you look at it and who your school is. And I'm sure some will say that Rockcastle isn't in SE KY.

There are a lot of good rivalies in the mnts. Does Bell consider Knox a rivalry.

Is Harlan Co a rival to Bell.

I will say since Bell is top dog everyone considers them a rival.

Bell is not Rocks top rival though. It is a rival dist game, but not the most important team we play.

1. Knox? It's a rivalry game but it's yet to become that big of one.
2.Harlan Co. was. Now that they're back on each others schedule I'm sure it will become a rivalry again.
3. Who is Rock's top rival? How can Bell not be the most important team you play? I can see maybe having a bigger rivalry, I guess, but I cannot see Bell not being their most important team to play.
#54
It is the most important game becasue of playoffs. But madison Southern is who we think of as rival. next door neighbor that has never beaten us. I think it is like 20something and 0 vs. rock. We dont want ot lose that ine for bragging rights. Bell is toughest but Sourthern means a lot.

I can't argue your own opinion but I don't understand it to be honest with you. I would be very surprised if the Rockcastle faithful felt the same as you do. And you also said that Bell was the most important game and before you said they were not. Not trying to argue with you but I think you have to step back and look at that again. Bell is your most important game by far IMO. I'd be willing to bet that Rock will take a win over Bell any day over any other opponent they play.
#56
Bell vs. Rock was a bigger game when Coach Larkey was here too. It was two great coaches going head to head. I figured that is why Harlan Co may be a big rival for Bell now.

One more thing. A 20-0 record between two teams isn't a rivalry. I'm sorry, it's just not.

Bell/Harlan Co. will be a rival game but it's not necessarily because Larkey is there now. It was a rivalry long before him. But, it does help to have him there now considering the history between him and Hilton.
#59
It is to them and us. We dont want to be the first to lose to them. it is a rival simply becasue of the record.

is KY adn TN a rival in football. YES. even thought they have beat us ever since 1983 or 84. it is like 27-0. yes it is a rival.
