Never know, alot of things might not happen.
I say he already has his hat in the ring. From the above posts, looks like he was not chosen and is saying he isn't interested. I don't know this but thats what it looks like. I don't know of his coaching resume'. I just know that he is very strong. I would like to see him come to his alma mater and improve the weight program myself.

From what I gather, the Johnson Central Asst. Coach is the leading man for the Powell job. Don't know his name. Anyone know his name?

Once again, Brewer was contacted early in the process (fact). He also indicated his lack of interest early in the process (fact).

Coach Tony Burchett. One of the best Offensive line coaches to come out of the mountains in the past 15 years. He has coached for several of the state's leading rushers on many different occasions. He coached at Lawrence County during their dominance during the late 90's. Then he moved to Bourbon County where he had one of the states leading rushers. Then to Johnson Central. And I don't think anything else needs to be said. Looks like the leading candidate to me. I have followed his coaching since he was at LC and this man knows what he is doing. I look for Powell Co. to be a competitor for the district title every year this man is at the helms, if he is offered the position. I don't think any of the other coaches mentioned have the resume' that Coach Burchett does. I know for a fact that he has taken at least 4 teams to the state semi-finals in the past 15 years. An excellent addition to Powell's program. And as a fan, I will be following this team if he is hired. Good luck Coach.

I agree that Coach Burchett is a great candidate! He has a great work ethic and gets everything from his players. He is an example of a position coach that has lots of experience that makes a great candidate.
On a side note, I thought he was going to Greenup with their new coach (Copley)? If he was, this will be a huge loss for Coach Copley and the rebuilding process he has at Greenup.

He never applied Ned. I've been talking with him ever since the coaching search began and he told me he was contacted but never actually applied.
His name was being mentioned and thrown around for the job and I'm sure because he's from there, played there, lives there and was an all-conference college football player at Union and has coached high school football for the past 6 or 7 years. I'd say alot of people assumed he was the obvious choice but I know for a fact he never applied for the job.

I hear that he lives in Winchester, stays with his mother during the week in Prestonburg, & commutes from there. This would save him a lot of driving time. Also, I hear they will make a descision this week.

From what I was told today, by a very reliable source, the odds are Powell Co. has a new coach as of now.
Suposably, The Athletic Director (M.Jones) was meeting with the final 3 candidates this afternoon, and pretty certain a new coach was selected.
Anyone heard as of who it may have been?

Whoever gets the job needs to smarten up and run a 50 defense. Powell would be alot more sound in a 50.

In 2 years coach Whitaker turned around a program that had never had a winner in over 20 years. He did his job at Powell co., He got the football program headed in the right direction.
