Mike Whitaker out at Powell Co.
maverick23 Wrote:No they are not talking about the head coach at clark. They are talking about the Defensive coordinator at Clark. The defense has been the bright spot at Clark for years.

I love the way you were so quick to point that out. The " I'm not the head coach, not my fault, defense done their job " syndrom. You did not disagree but you did clarify that " NOT ME " "NO WAY":thanks: Really all I needed to hear.:lmao:
I don't know much about the D-cord at Clark. All I know is in 7 on 7 they couldn't stop us at all and were 3 A (lol) He may be a pretty good coach, I really don't know much about him.
If you are looking at hiring an assistant coach for the head coach and want to run the spread offense, Why would you not hire Tyler Puckett? He knows coach W's system and is in the building. I got your back Bart(lol)
Not a coach just a fan of CC. I like to see people do well and succeed.
The name I hear the most from Powell co. on the job right now is Mike Jones.
As of right now he is the no.1 on the list from the people in Powell I've talked to. This is just what's coming from some people in Powell.
Who in your opinion is the best hire for Powell co. from the possible candidates for the job? Your opinions.

From what I have heard Tyler Puckett is gone to.
Totally a rumor though.

Going with Whitaker for sure.I hear you been "spending time" in Wolfe lately. You will have to fill me in.Or are you going to follow Whitaker too?LOL

Haha, is that what ya heard?
Idk but pretty sure wolfe co doesnt want anything to do with a few Poco boys anytime soon.
I definatley will have to give u the play by play.
Never in my life would i follow him.

I have done some research,
and I would say if he is intrested Doug Preston from East Bullit would be a great hire.
Puckett has been in W's system for a while now and wouldn't stray too much. Kids seem to be behind him. Wouldn't be a bad choice.
Preston has the credintials and knows the spread too. So far, has won everywhere he's went.
Jones will no doubt, run the double wing and we have quite a few good RB's. Could work with what I've heard about his weight training.
Shultz, Stokes.(not sure which one is his name. I've heard both) loves the spread(which is great to run out of also) knows the defense real well. Has coached for a while now. So he has some good experience.
I can't choose! I will support anyone of them.

Not me man(lol) I'll be the first to tell ya' I'm not ready to run a program from ground-up. Thanks for the vote of confidence. " A man has got to know his limitations ".(Dirty Harry)

We know BlITZ43, You want a job(LOL):thatsfunn :lmao: just razzin' you a lil'
I will say ole blitz43 is a coach that will do what-ever is needed or asked of him.
The coaching staff will be up to the new coach. No matter what happens, I wish Powell co. the best of luck in the future. Look for the next 3 years to be outstanding seasons for who-ever is hired as the next coach. The senior class has several 3 year starters, The junior class has the teams leading tacklers on defense and the soph. class is loaded. The teams leading rusher is a jr. and will be there for 2 more years. It will get a lil' better every year for the next 3 years at Powell co. and Mike Whitaker has made the road a whole lot easier for the next Powell co. football coach. So, If I'm back or if I'm not , BEST OF LUCK!

I have heard that former Coach John Paul Chapman has put in for the job, would be a good hire, knows all about Offense and Defense,so what wrong with this picture, parents would have to stay back and let him coach and adminstration would have to fully support him and he could bring a winning/condenter program in two years with players he will have the next three yrs,i really believe that, with Jones nothing wrong with him he just dont play an exciting kinda Football,no passing and defense is usually suspect but they will be many put in for the job as head coach, hope they will not cut this program to pieces $$monies$$ does help in getting a winning program getting a good hire for the kids...Good Luck!!!

What about Pike Central. Are they aware their NEW coach is already shopping around?
theonetheonly10 Wrote:All i know is that when whitaker was the coach about 30 players weight lifted everyday. Now there is an estimated 5-10 that go everyday now. Its quite possible that Ryan Frailey and John Flinchim arn't playing this year!

There is no truth to that at all. :lame:

Might as well go ahead and park Puckett off that list, cause from what i've heard he has jumped the train to Letcher also.
Either way good luck next season Powell. Sometimes things happen for the better. Losing something good can mean gaining something great. There are alot of hungry talented game thinkers out there just waiting to impose on the opposition.

I know. I heard the same thing but can't confirm for sure. Tyler, I hope you stay around but understand your descision. It was great coaching with ya.

It's winding down blitz. From what I hear by next week we will have a coach.
This really sends a good message about Powell co. football now with alot of really good coaches applying for the job. We are not the " WHIPPING BOY "
any more and people realize the potential Powell co. has.

The story is that around 15 applicants expressed intrest in this job. I think that says alot about where the future of PCHS Football is headed.

Top 3 possible candidates would have to be Preston, Jones and Chapman. I did say "POSSIBLE" candidates.
Preston, played for 4A state title at B.E. also set all-time state rushing record at Louisville Western with over 500 yards a game. Jones, did an outstanding job at Estill. The Double wing is a nightmare to defend believe me I know.
Chapman, Defensive coordinator 95', 96' and 02' Breathitt state championship teams. 3 very good possibilites right there.
Key word is "POSSIBLE" candiadates.
One out of the three I could see. Two others?????? Why. Chapman is a man of his word. He told Pike he would be there he will. Preston......Why????
These are "possible" candidates from what's going around in Powell co.

when you said gone with Whitaker, do you mean he is going to be a coach with LCC?
Big Chief Wrote:The AD needs to make one call; to Brandon Brewer. Offer him the job and give him what he needs to succeed. I guarantee he can get it done, and he won't leave after two seasons. What Powell needs is consistency and Brewer would provide that. Don't waste your time with anyone else.
sorry big cheese but that name has not been mentioned. did you put that in the paper big cheese.
