Johnson Central 55 - Paintsville 7

classy tiger Wrote:All I can say is congratulations to the TIGERS! They kept their heads high and played the game. I haven't heard anyone quote the difference in numbers of players on each team. (Approximately 138 to 32) And yes, Paintsville is 1A and JC is 5A. When you are playing a contact sport, this must be considered. It has just taken JC a WHILE to build their program. NOW the 2008 Apple Bowl is over maybe JC needs to look into playing more 5A schools.

You're right..this games over! You're not right about the number of kids on the team. JC has to struggle to find teams to play them. Also you're right about JC building their program...and now that they have, Paintsville no longer wants to play us...why is that? From one classy Eagle to another classy tiger

So you're saying that Johnson Central has 138 players? Sorry man but that's about the funniest thing that I've ever heard. Johnson Central has about 60 players. Yes Paintsville is 1A and Johnson Central is 5A but you didn't here of Johnson Central trying to tuck and run when they were getting beat in the Apple Bowl all those years. I believe they lost eight in a row at one point. This is just a simple case of wanting to take your ball a play elsewhere because your pride is hurting. In my opinion it has nothing to do with the class size because we never heard that excuse when Bill Musick was at Johnson Central and he won his share of Apple Bowls. It's all about pride and ego.

I'm afraid you're wrong sir. TIGER PRIDE is never hurting, only getting stronger. The apple bowl is something that will always continue and the tigers aren't going to be the ones to run and hide from a bunch of eagles. The fact of the matter is why JC would want to play a 1A school just to say they beat a 1A school. Kudos to you for doing so.....now what? I guess it's on to Hazard ....another 1A school. What are you going to do when Paintsville beats JC again in an apple bowl? It IS going to happen. Just because you have a good team now doesn't mean you will beat them from now on. I just think it's funny to hear all of the JC fans on here talking smack about beating these teams and walking around like a bully in a school yard picking on the younger kids. Meanwhile, what are the teams doing that you will be facing in post season? Only getting stronger while you're wasting your time beating small schools. Say what you will about not being able to find bigger schools to play you but you all said it yourselves about wanting the apple bowl to continue. Well you got what you wanted, now move on to something else. Paintsville has already moved on and are looking to Raceland now. Congrats to you, you beat us. Whippee! But to say the tigers want to tuck and run is a crock of ****. Paintsville is trying to schedule teams that they will face in post season, not someone they can get a barrell from.

I'll say it again when Paintsville defeated Johnson Central eight times in a row class size wasn't mentioned. When Bill Musick won his Apple Bowls class size wasn't mentioned. So why now? Did I ever say that Paintsville wouldn't win another Apple Bowl? No I didn't. Are you sure that the Apple Bowl will always continue? Because it's sure sounds like to me on here that the tiger brass want to tuck their tale and run or maybe play two games in the Apple Bowl and get another easy win. Maybe schedule a Magoffin County or Jenkins perhaps? Tuck and run yep that's what it sure looks like to me. It's all about pride and ego and has nothing to do with the crap that you mentioned above.

Yes it has a lot to do with what I mentioned above. I think if anyone would want out of the apple bowl it would be JC wanting to schedule someone they would eventually face when it really counts. Same way for Paintsville. It's good to have a cross town rival, but eventually you have to sit back and look at the big picture. If you ever want to bring home the title, you have to get out of Paintsville and face those teams like Beechwood and Highlands. A barrell is a barrell, but a state title...that's something.

I'm going to ask you again why wasn't your argument brought up when the tigers won eight games in a row back in the day or when Coach Musick was winning some Apple Bowls when he was at Johnson Central?

Do you think that facing a team like Johnson Central wouldn't prepare Paintsville for the post season? Johnson Central thinks there schedule is fine. This is third year year in a row that some of you tiger fans have dogged JC's scheduled and how it wouldn't prepare them for the post season. In 06 they were a half away from the state finals and last year they were defeated in round three so they must be doing something right. If chasing a state title is the new excuse for ending this series one would think it would be a mistake on Paintsville's part to end the Apple Bowl.

Who is on Paintsville's schedule for next year that would better prepare them for a state title?

I think all of your questions can be answered with one thing. Paintsville has a coach that cares about bettering his program by playing strong 1A teams, not 5A teams. We are playing Raceland, who is ranked #2 in the state for 1A. Being half away from state finals is just that....half away. Were you in the state finals? I didn't think so. But I guess playing Paintsville really helped prepare you for that loss didn't it? Say what you will about Paintsville. You all at JC finally have a good program thanks to Matney, and all of a sudden you think you are superbowl champs. For some reason it's impossible for you to walk around humble, instead you have to bash your opponents. The past is the past. Yes Paintsville holds the record for most wins and JC is determined to catch up. Then what? I'm sure it will be JC wanting to end the bowl. Paintsville gets nothing out of playing JC and I would think the same would be said for JC. I'm not saying that a state title is an "excuse" for ending the series. Your coach said it himself on national television that it is a "bitter" rival. I think the bitterness has gone too far and to put friends against friends just to please the fans is ridiculous.

National television? Friends against friends? This is high school football you are talking about....everyone has friends just about on every team they play..it was like that when I was in school (a little more so the case since there was a strong little league, youth basketball and football programs) and is like that today. It's not like it's a chicken fight...it's a game, nothing more or nothing less. It's people on the outside that try and make it a lot more than what it is....

Make that local television. I agree it's a game but the game gets overlooked by all the bad mouthing between schools. The "skit" JC does that is approved by the administration and makes fun of Paintsville's students, players, and admin. just goes too far. Why put our kids through that? What lesson does that teach them? Nothing.
I personally thought all the nonsense that goes on during the week, top 10 lists, vandalism, personal attacks given to each player via email or their little myspace accounts are rediculous. When it comes down to it, regardless of the outcome, the sun will rise the next day and it's not the end of the world....there are bigger fish to fry in the long scheme of things. This game is almost a week over and we're still talking about it? Paintsville has a good Class A school and can potentially beat Pikeville for the first time since the 2001 Region Championship squad and Johnson Central is a good 5A club...it's time to move on and finish the season strong.
Paintsville should never win another apple bowl again. Hey JC might have some bad talent in the future and then Paintsville might slip up on the Eagles. I think it is a great thing what JC has done with their football program in the past 6-7 years. It's truly remarkable. Heck even the changes that their whole athletic department has made in recent years. I hate to say this but I would rate their overall athletic department as better than Paintsville's as far as production and improvement. JC is willing to make the right changes to their programs for the better of the system. JC truly has the support of the community and they have people that actually care about the kids in this program. They don't just have fans that complain about everything that is being done and backstab, these fans are there through the rough and the bad. I know the school does everything in their power to do and get things for these kids. JC is in the right direction by making changes to their facilities (football, baseball, and softball). This is just going to make it hard for other teams to compete because I think JC is going to have the upper hand. However, I think Paintsville has started this phase with their athletic department by getting some of the dead weight out for the better of the program. They have made good young coaching changes in most sports. I think this will help to get Paintsville out of this steady lull that they have most recently been in. I wish the best of luck to both teams for the remainder of the year. They are both class acts on and off the field.

National television? :thatsfunn
Superbowl champs? :thatsfunn

So I guess we can expect to see Beechwood, Raceland,LCA, Frankfurt, Louisville Holy Cross, Hazard,Williamsburg, Fairview or Ludlow on next year's schedule? These are the only "strong" 1A schools that's about a three and a half hour drive or less from Paintsville. Please let us know what teams Paintsville will be playing next year.

I've not dogged Paintsville one time after the loss on here. I just think it's gutless to end a thirty five year old series because you've been defeated five times in a row. I think by taking your ball and going home your sending the message to your fans that you can't beat Johnson Central and you're throwing in the towel.

Who mentioned that JC was determined to catch up to Paintsville in the all time series? That's right you did. I don't remember seeing that mentioned on here by a JC fan. So that's probably another motive to end the series.

You can tell me excuse after excuse on why Paintsville wants to end a thirty five year old rivalry but you're just wasting your breath so spare me. We all know it's all about pride and ego.

I am a Tiger that was brought up with this rivalry. I was playing grade school ball at Paintsville Ele. when the Apple Bowl began. I have never missed a game.
Size was never an issue....ever. Still isn't if you ask me. JCHS just has more and better players than Paintsville at this time. Why? Matney. Keep him as long as you can. Heck...I was looking at a PHS yearbook the other day that showed a Tiger team with 48 players that went 2-8 that year. It's not the numbers, it's who the numbers are and who is leading them. I honestly believe that in 3 years or less, Coach Kinner will have Paintsville back to where they were. Actually I am thrilled that JCHS has a good program. Success breeds success. Do I want to see the Apple Bowl end? No. I just want PHS to build their program back. They can and will. I want JCHS to keep building their program and eventually be able to take down the "Big Boys" in classes 5A and 6A.

Im sorry but I have to ask this question. Is Coach Booths avatar a pic of Chuke Williams holding a large liquor bottle?

The skit the fball players put on on Thursday that makes fun of the entire Pville school.

Since you asked nicely, I'll leave it at this. If we could get one of those teams, I know we would play them. Unfortunately, I don't make the schedule, but I won't be surprised to see them on a schedule in the future. All I'm sayin is why play a team who's rivalry divides a community instead of playing someone else?

IT IS A RIVALRY! Meaning that it is going to divide fans. More importantly, it is a tradition. The Apple Bowl is a tradition that both teams look forward to each and every year. JCHS looks to try to keep the barrel and PHS tries to redeem themselves after five straight loses. That's just how these things work.

I agree with you completely! Talent comes and goes, both in terms of players and in terms of coaches. I'm sure JC didn't like those 8 losses in a row no more than we Tigers like the 5 losses in a row. And while the Tigers are at a disadvantage in terms of school size, the Apple Bowl should go on! Gee, if anyone would want to ever end the Apple Bowl, I would think it would be JC and not Paintsville. I say keep on playing it and I wouldn't even care if they played it at JC every single year. Keep it going is what I say to the Admins at both schools!! It is actually fun for the community. I mean look how many posts have been posted about this game. Now that is interest!! Actually though I don't know why that JC wants to put any more 1A schools on their schedule though (ie. Hazard). But hopefully they will never want to drop Paintsville. Good luck to both teams the remainder of the season and long live the Apple Bowl.

Well said.buttt JC has Hazard on their schedule because its hard to get a game and hazard is a very good 1A team that apparently is looking forward to this challenge. They have Paintsville well because its the Apple Bowl.
Cool

Let the administrations make their decision about the Apple Bowl and let it be.
Maybe there is more to it than we know about. You should support your school when you are playing the cross town rivalry but when you are not you should support each other! Everytime that Paintsville has been at Rupp, I see lots of JC fans ( I hope that they are supporting us) We do all need to support each other. And, yes, JC's athletic programs are making progress but I don't think that you can down Paintsville's athletic programs because they have always been strong whether it be young or old coaches. A RIVALRY IS GOOD but lets get on with the season!!!
