I just do not understand how good teams can fear competition.
O by the way I am sure KY Rock going to respond with if LC played JC they would win. (so on on on on on on)
I don't feel that LC needs a dose of humility do we? No matter how good we do in the season it has ended up with us getting pasted by Belfry the last few years so I really can't see LC being cocky. I do agree that a stronger schedule is always a good thing but JC just has way too many more kids to draw from and that is why they have a hard time getting the smaller schools to play them. They blow out Belfry teams that have beat us pretty soundly several times so I really can't see the benefit of playing a team that would more than likely beat us by 50 points. Maybe it would be a benefit in getting us ready for Belfry like you mentioned, nothing else has seemed to work thus far lol.

I agree with this but every time I bring it up people from Louisa say, "but what good would it do to get beat bad by Johnson Central". The Dawg's will have a very solid team this year with some monster linemen. Yes JC would be the heavy favorite and our odds of winning would be very slim, but we can't keep playing cupcakes all season only to get to those one or two games like Raceland and Belfry who can smack you in the mouth and we get caught looking like deer in headlights. Who gives a damn if JC beats us, it would be a good atmosphere and close drive for everyone and with the numbers, recent tradition and the fact that they are a contender in 4A, they are supposed to beat us I would think.

Very good points. I can't argue about the pros outweighing the cons of playing JC after reading and considering that post.

Sounds good! I think they will air it out a lot this year.

I'm going to try and find out what teams they played!

They played Ashland,East Carter,Maysville,OH and South Point,OH to my knowledge.

LC needs to decide if they are goina air it out or take the air out of it. For years they have been a ground and pound offense, but with the skill guys they have on the outside and an experienced QB, they would benefit largely from staying very balanced. Last year this was t the case, one way or another, it was all or nothing. Pass every down during a possession, or run every down. Gotta be balanced

They also played that 7 on 7 without dalton or chaffins. The one ohio school was nelsonville west the other was south point. Lc did not lose a game in the tounry.

How have the lineman been looking? I've been hearing a lot about the size we have on the line this year. I can't wait to get out and see the kids practice.

Good luck in 2015 L.C.

Scotty I agree with you on this one. Last season we had a lot of series where the record was skipping. It was almost like we had been a run team for so long that they were almost afraid to mix it up. I think the athleticism of this team could have been used better last season. Some of the run plays called last season felt like they just didn't know what else to call. We IMO should have had a lot more short yardage passing in place of a lot of the runs last year. When you have a weapon like Dalton you need to get the ball in his hands in space and let him create something. This is what they did in the October game against Belfry last year and Belfry had no answer for #11. I think he hurt the Belfry defense more then any single player from any team they played last year.

I got to stop and see the Dawg's at practice today and noticed a few things.
The rumors are real, we will have some huge lines this year(especially the O line). Timmy Dalton was there and that is very good news. I also saw a few new faces that I didn't see on the freshman or 8th grade teams so I don't know where they came from. I counted close to 60 and I would say a few more will show up by start of season as they always do. The Ratliff kid is a monster. Grant Kiser was throwing very hard and Dalton looks to be about an inch taller.

A large line is a plus, but what kind of mobility do they have?

Well the biggest tallest kid on the line is also a basketball player so I don't think the mobility will be a problem.

Thats a big possitive for the Dawgs then. Belfry will be massive upfront but those boys can move. Raceland have a couple 280/290 kids that move really well, the rest will be in the 250/260 range. Good size boys but not alot of height. 6"-6'3" maybe. Lawrence had some good size last year and they moved pretty well, but they all stood straight up. I expect experience and leadership to be better in Dawg country this year though:

So does anyone have any idea when we have another 7-v-7 or when our first scrimmage is or who it's against? I would love to get a good look at the Dawg's before the season starts.

The short drive is the only benfit for lc or jc, when you play a big school like jc that is also good you end up with a one sided score playing their jv the second half. Dont see where that's helps anybody but johnson central s jv team. They need to play teams that if they play to their abilty and don't make a buch of mistakes then they have a shot a winning. To build a program you have to have kids that want to play if you just send them up against team they have no shot at beating pretty soon you have 25 kids out for football.

I can agree with this to a point but this is coach Cecils 4th or 5th season. At some point he has got to beef up the regular season schedule and get the kids in some dog fights so they will be prepared for the playoffs. At what point do we stop giving this coaching staff the building excuse. We can say they are still building 10 years from now but I believe he has been at the helm long enough to get his system in place and to start showing all of us what he can do. Maybe Johnson Central is a little strong right now but I find it hard to believe that the teams added this season were the best he could find.
07-25-2015, 10:41 PM
I could be dead wrong on this and I'm not in his head nor do I know who he was trying to get, but it just feels sometimes like we could do better on the scheduling.

Honestly I don't really consider this years schedule to be that soft. Aside from the district games with Belfry,PC and a Sheldon Clark team that always plays us tough even if they have been down lately, we play Raceland,Fairview and P-burg that are definately not pushovers and 2 of those teams beat us last year. We added Greenup that is a 4a school that I hear has been doing pretty well. I haven't seen Greenup play in quite some time but they normally have a solid team. I have no idea about Montgomery and Powell county but Boyd is another 4A school and I thought they played pretty damn hard in the 2 games I watched them play last year. Maybe if we blast through this schedule without having sloppy games and getting beat by Raceland and Prestonsburg and nearly getting beat by Fairview, we can worry about stepping up the opponents.Right now we have had trouble with the schedules we have had the last few seasons. I don't like to disrespect any team by calling them cupcakes but if we play teams that obviously cannot compete with us then by all means, drop them after the contract is up and try for better. Sometimes it may be good to have some easy games on there just so you don't have a full season of all out warfare that grinds players down and racks up the injuries.Just a thought.

I agree that not having some breather games can wear a team down, but on a year in year out basis you will find that in just about every season from 1A through 6A that the teams who go the furthest and win the most tough, close playoff games had the tougher schedules during the season. I think you got to find a good balance for your schedule and find the right place and timing for your toughest games. There is nothing wrong with scheduling a team or two who is better then you and taking a loss as long as the coaching staff approach it right and use it as a learning experience and help the kids understand why they lost the game. To me this is better then playing down right bad teams and programs like Boyd and Rowan Counties and winning by 40 points or more and then the kids start thinking they are better then they are and they are more prone to not work as hard and then you go up against a good team and get smashed! That is how our season has gone the last few years and I think the Raceland game last year was a prime example of this. No reason on this earth why that game was not more competitive then it was like the Lawrence-v- Raceland game the season before. But then we go on a few games down the road and play Belfry who is way better then Raceland and we play Belfry better then anyone expected and I think the wake up call we got in the Raceland game had more to do with this then you think. You would be surprised how kids can bounce back from a loss and learn something and get better.

Just my opinion but I thought the Dawgs did really good in the play offs last year. Didn't they make it to the simi finals and lost to the State champs. Do I think playing JC would have allowed them to beat Belfry ? Probably not. But I always like to state that LC and JC has played each other 10 times in school history and JC will have to beat them 6 more times just to even the record. But I know that is niether now or then. I just can't wait for KY high school football to get started under the Friday night lights. Good luck to all. And go Dawgs.

I am going to assume that this game at Betsy Lane is going to start around 7:00?? Hope to attend and not just see the Dawgs in action but some of the other teams from around the area.
