Congrats to JC on their victory and winning a regional championship
03-06-2012, 08:47 PM
The JC players won the region, but that win was more than just regional title. That win was a feel-good moment for the great people of Johnson County that lost everything they owned and loved ones on Friday night.... There is more to sports than just winning. People sitting in their vehicles listing to the game because their house no longer exists, and then cheering the team as they came by where their house used to sit.............
That my friend is what sports is all about!

Its funny to read the comments of the SV fans. I dont care what grade they are in, where they came from or why they moved if anyone from the school or community says move here some day we will be a good team that is recruiting. I have watched 15th region sports for 40 years and SV has had numerous recuits. Last years 15th region MVP was from Pburg.

I should have added the SV community tried their best to recruit the Justices from ER 2 years ago. It would have happened too if the Pike BOE super had not stopped it.

Excuse me....He went to Paintsville for five years and due to certain situations. He moved to Pike Co. (Shelby Valley's District) to live with his Dad. Who lived there the entire time. Know what you are talking about before you open your mouth.

Yes it does. He wasn't recruited. He moved home with his father. I know the kid personally and would have given anything if he would have stayed. But, it was the BEST thing for the kid to move. Plain and simple.

I figured it was personal So drop him that doesnt change the number of other transfers they have had over the last 40 years.

I just get tired of canadians this and that. Both of these KIDS were moved from difficult situations to better themselves in the US So they ended up at ER Any school in the region would have taken them

What are Johnson Co.'s chances in their 1st game of the Sweet Sixteen?

I can think of ONE that transferred in after he entered high school.
that was Dev Adams, he transferred from Pville.
and wasn't "recruited".
and BTW you told me in a previous thread you didn't care about ER boys basketball, so why do you care.

Bet you can't name more than 3 or 4 since SV became a school. Keep in mind you're saying "recruits". So please name kids that you would say were recruited, say by a person like Brandon Bender.

LOL. Valley does recruit. They are after the Feilds kid right now. Van Swindel has even offered to adopt him. The only difference is that Valley recruits average players to win Regeions, ER recruits D1 players just to make it out of the district.

From what I have seen of Shelby Valley basketball, most of the impact players from their past teams have been raised through the Dorton/Virgie basketball systems. Not transferred or "recruited" in. Based on the talent, hard work, and success, of those two programs it would only make sense that Shelby Valley should be a successful basketball school. I would be lying if I said that Valley hadn't had transfers who made a difference in the past, but the players that I know of transferred on their own free will, or had family issues surrounding them.
IMO, East Ridge has several talented players that I have watched since they were in Grade School; however without the play of Ray and Tony, East Ridge would not have made it to the Finals of the Region. Therefore those two are high impact Transfers, not that I care whether that is viewed as right or wrong, but I am concerned that it may have opened a flood gate of "transfers" from other States/Countries which may keep our local kids from getting the opportunity and recognition the deserve...

My opinion on why Valley has a great basketball program has nothing to do with recruiting. I feel its the programs these kids are brought up in, From Little League, AAU then Junior High, Valley has two feeder schools that have the best two coaches in this region in my opinion. Doe Doe and Randy teach their kids to play hard and never give up. To me thats what helps valley. All schools will have kids move in and move out of their areas, it happens everywhere. But the old saying goes To be the best you have to beat the best. This year turns out Johnson Central was the best. Good luck to you in the Sweet 16.

This thread is about JC winning the regions, not who has transfered in or which school has a better fedder program.
Fact, looks like JC feeder program is working, several strong classes in the pipeline. Looks like JC will be the big boy in the 15th now with everyone back. The Expo will be Eagleville South.
I have been a critic of Tommy's in the past. I was wrong. His coaching perforamce this year, taking Freshmen and Sophmores to state, it the best one year coahing job by a basketball coach in JC history.

Getting a little ahead of yourself.
There are too many young teams to say that.
Especially the history SV has had at the expo.

Time will tell. The Districts were drawn up to give SV and easy road to Rupp and the Expo as their home court, that is not working now. JC owned that court this week
After watching the game the other night I feel I am safe with my earlier comments. The proof is in the results, not what has been.

The last two times Central won region they managed to avoid the teams that beat them in the district. So I wouldnt say valley was the only team that got lucky. ANd btw JC should dominate this region they are the biggest school. Not winning region should be an embarrasment to JC.

What I was saying is I disagree with the way the KHSAA divided up the districe and the way playing he games at the Expo favored the Pike Conty teams, my opinion. I realize some of you guys whom have been to Rupp the last several years are at home and JC is going to Rupp.
Like the moderator said this thread is about JC and East Ridge. Both teams played through a competiitive format and both were the best team iin the region period. We saw a great game with two potential D-1 and D- 1 coaches in the stands, it does not get any beter than that.
JC should be at the top every year,I agree with that. What I am saying look for that to happen more in the future. It will be like football, a whole new level.
