Completely agree with this
#63
What does the team need to do then? To me, practicing thursday at home and leaving friday morning seems like the perfect thing to do. So id like to hear your opinion.

I think this is a waste of gas for belfry and union takes it 35-18
#65
No need for a travel plan, it’s all just a waste of gas anyways. Belfry stands no chance.
#66
Never count the Big Red out, too much experience. I feel like Haywood will have the Pirates up to the task this Friday!

Belfry probably won’t show up.  If I were y’all….i’d just plan on having a bonfire at 7:00 pm Friday down on the river.

I’m mad at the KHSAA. Yes I know how the system works, but at what point in the realignment do you think it was good to open up the whole state for semi final travel? It is all pretty much regional till the semis and your championship is in a relatively central location. Now, the BHS cheerleaders will probably not be able to cheer Friday. Make it make sense.

And yes I am glad to be playing. I just hate it for the cheerleaders and fans. This would be the same if Union was traveling East. What about next year if BHS has to travel to Mayfield or vice versa?

I agree with your post but I can't think of 1 good reason why the cheerleaders would be unable to make the game

Well Jet it sucks.  From what I was told by one of the cheerleaders mothers is that it is too long of a trip and they cannot find a third bus driver.  My idea was that if they want to go then just load up with some fans and go!

It is a broken system. Now hear me out on a couple points:

1. Since the RPI was announced I have been dogging that it is flawed and how easily it could be fixed. Class 3A has demonstrated two of the biggest flaws this year alone.
A) Central winning their district and beating CAL head to head and having to travel to CAL for a 3rd Round playoff game.
B) Belfry travelling the width of the State despite playing a schedule that for all itnents of purposes would be deemed more difficult.

2. The answer for the KY playoff system continues to be the same thing I have always said. Three teams per district advance, not 4. Divide into a Semi-State. District winners get seeded 1-4 and get automatic 1st Round Byes. All remaining teams get seeded 5-12 based off RPI. You stick to your Semi-State.

3. If the KHSAA insists on re-seeding the Semi's... then there has to be a neutral field component in play. I ain't mad at Union County... if KHSAA gives you homefield advantage.. USE IT. I just think using a broken CPU system should not be enough reason that this type of homefield advantage should exist at this stage.

4. Let's also consider this... Belfry has the financial means to cover an expensive trip like this. They have boosters and a program that has been well supported and has local businesses happy to sponsor. What if this was a program like Phelps making a trip across state? We have done realignments, re-districting, etc to support "travel hardships", but what if this was the banner year for these tiny programs and they actually ended up hurting their athletic budgets by being successful? Imagine loading the buses up for the Semi's and then the Finals... the cost of those two trips probably would vastly outweigh what those programs would bring in from a  full season.

5. We all selfishly get caught up in the travel to the game... but if I am a Belfry parent what worries me is travel back FROM the game. Say you leave at 7 AM and get there by 3:30 PM after 8 hours of windshield time. Those bus drivers aren't taking naps.. they are probably watching the game. Game ends and everyone gets dressed at say 10:30 CST... you have another 8 hours of drive time plus an hour time change. You basically asked your bus drivers to stay awake for a full 24 hours and to drive 16 of those hours. You are also asking to do it when there may be the chance of snow or ice potentially because the Semi's are always Late November. Unless Belfry spends the night somewhere... that is a dangerous situation.

I’m guessing money to drive a separate bus. Now…hopefully they can travel with their parents/friends or relatives.   But….m sure there may be some who are not attempting the drive.

No bus driver is going to drive 16-18 hours on a holiday weekend to make $125 and take that responsibility. Very lucky Belfry has the Foit family to take the football team.

See my last post.. my guess is the way Belfry is dealing with potentially 16 hours of driving in a 24 hour window is they are probably getting double bus drivers so one can rest while the other drives. If cheerleaders went I would imagine you probably have four buses making the trip. That's a lot of bus drivers to get to commit on Thanksgiving weekend.

If any kind of accident happens involving any athletes or parents, the KHSAA will simply cease to exist.

Thankful to be playing and praying for safe travels for all!

Not my place here but there is no good reason. Hire charter(s), and/or do whatever else it takes. Long bus rides to games has been a thing.forever. I will bow out. Good luck Pirates I'm pulling for you.

I’m fine with it. It’s just one round. I know WV it’s based on points all throughout so this could be an every week type of thing there. Owensboro Catholic is another possibility next year. With the time zone change Belfry won’t be back to Pike County until about 6 Saturday morning.

Wonder why they don't do like the OHSAA & have a central location for the semifinals?
#81
arent bus drivers required 8 hours of sleep every 24 hours?
#82
To those that think its as simple as getting up early and making the drive Friday - you must have never played sports to understand the hangover of a long bus ride.

Prayers for safe travels and game for all involved.
Outside of the logistics, this game has the potential to be a true grind-it-out dogfight with both teams focused on a power run style offense.
#85
Media for this game?
#86
give me belfry i think union will overlook them but belfry will need to be on there A+ game to beat them even if union is overlooking
#87
Any streams of this one

To provide a flip side argument to everything said about the travel for this game, as a player I would have loved a trip like this. Its exciting. You are traveling to somewhere you've never played, likely never even seen & don't know all that much if anything about. It is a new experience. I would have loved it as a player, I always loved traveling to new places to play.

Now, I absolutely understand the concerns from parents, the complaints from fans and I am sure the headache for all involved from an administration perspective. But at the end of the day, it could be a cool experience for the kids, especially if they leave with a win.
