In fact he encourages kids to play as many sports as possible(which personally, I don't agree with). I've heard him say that kids pick up other good qualities that they may not get from football.
Your on the outside looking in, and your probably repeating what someone else has said that don't have a clue either.
Think so?

Run it up the middle all you want, but eventually LCA caught on to what was going on and Pikeville couldn't go anywhere. So they ran it outside and LCA was just too quick for that.
Also, the game I watched, I saw LCA players in the backfield sacking the QB far too many times. One thing linemen should be taught is to always protect your QB. Even if you're getting beat....hold the other guy, do whatever, but you never let them touch the QB.
I believe...and this is if I remember correctly, Harmon had about 140 yards....possibly more. That 140 stat might have just been from the first half. I am pretty sure that he broke the 2000 yard mark for the season though.
I would have to disagree:
If you look at the stats, Pikeville DESTROYED LCA, in everything except points (what matters) We just couldnt hold the ball, I think that 99% of our fumbles were within 30 yards.

45-14 is not a close game. Pikeville could not execute.

Here are some stats:
The Panthers lost four fumbles without being touched. Pikeville botched two handoffs and twice quarterback Tim Honaker could not handle the snap. There was also a blocked punt and a muffed punt return.
Harmon had 149 yards on 31 carries, NOT 180.
Tim Honaker had 110 yards.
LCA's Witt had 130 yards passing and 80 yards rushing.
LCA's Gaffney led all tacklers with 13.

I wouldn't say there is a lack of interest, but Pikeville High School has way too many athletes for them to just sit around and be lazy...Those who do just sit around and don't do anything need to realize that they could be big contributors to a lot of athletics at Pikeville, not just football. IMO a lot of the students are afraid of football and not willing to give it a chance b/c they think it would be too hard, but what they don't realize is all of the positive things you get from playing football. This is why i think those people are too scared to play. What they need to do is just ask some of the seniors who played what football meant to them and how much it hurt them to lose. Then, they may give it a shot.
And as for there being more options...Yes there are more and i think they would rather do that just b/c they think football would be too hard, when really it isn't. I also agree that the little league has been lacking, but i think Coach J is doing everything in his power to get that back going.
For Pikeville to get back to the top they need contributions from the students who chose not to play. I think they need to re-think it all and give football a chance!

Mine were pulled from the News Express and Kentucky.com, I never said they were all of the stats.

I would have to say (Being one myself) Most of us HAVE given football a try, but don't want to do it for one or another reason.
Mine, and my two best friends reasons:
He keeps you to himself during season and off season, no off days. You miss a day, he makes you feel like crap. No one wants to feel that, no one wants to deal with Jackson and his antics.
And about playing other sports:
Jackson wont let you have a personal life outside his "football family", let alone play another sport.

Thats pretty funny that you say that considering Jackson encourages his players to play other sports...All that he asks is you dont play that sport while you are in football b/c of injury...Which is very undersatndable
You obviously didn't get it much of a chance

All the truly successful teams have individuals who are dedicated and don't get distracted by other petty things during season.

Practice- 2 1/2 hours four days a week. Mondays may be a little longer for film review. At the most 11-12 hours a week.
Offseason - 3:20-4:30 only for kids that don't lift during school
Sorry if this is too much time out of your hectic work week.

Practice 330-6 ISH seen it as late as 715, 8 once. Never out before 5. 5 days a week; (not as long on Wednesdays, of course)
You must lift once a day, game day included. No exceptions, you make up what you miss. And during the week, if you dont lift during school because of scheduling conflicts, you stay after practice. I saw one kid not getting out of there til 945 one night, now how much time is left for family dinner and homework?!
Fridays, your not permitted to leave the school, which is somewhat understandable. BUT you eat the dinner he chooses. I dont like that. sorry, thats just me.
Saturday Required meeting. For a short practice and film review. and a review of weeks past.
Off season, you lift every day. 300 till 420 on short days, which last about a month into off season, then its till about 530 ish, depending if he comes in and talks for a while. Breaks from school included, like i said before, you miss, he makes you feel like crap.
You schedule it in with your other sports.
Oh, and GRADES?! He wonders why the majority of his kids have terrible grades.
Because he gives them no time to study. Some kids want to live a life outside football, and want to have a life along side it. Jackson's style does not permit that alongside academics and other things required by young adults today.
AND FYI ( I TAKE YOUR STATEMENT VERY PERSONAL)
I'm about the farthest thing from a skate rat, and if you like, pm me, and ill just send you a schedule of what I have to do during the week.

3:30-6ISH is2 1/2 hours like I said.
I think just about every kid has the chance to take PE, but if they can't they must lift, either before school or after school. It wouldn't be fair to the other kids who lift if you didn't make it up.
Offseason is 3:20-4:30 Mon., Tues., Thur., and Fri. Not every day of the week.
If you miss, he doesn't make you feel like crap. It's the 15 minutes that you have to stay after practice each day until the time you missed is made up, that makes you feel like crap. It's only time that you make up, not the conditioning and hitting. He makes you pick up after practice and take in the equipment.
Balancing football and grades is the hardest thing for a young kid to do. We have several kids on the team with all A's and as far as I know, none of the kids had to set out or miss any football due to grades. He checks grades every week and makes kids that have C- or below keep an assignment notebook. For kids that have D's or below he has a FACTS program, which is a mandatory study session.
And by the way, the majority of his kids don't have terrible grades. They have really good grades at a tough school like Pikeville, where 93%-100 is an A. 83%-92 is a B, etc.
Last, I wasn't trying to personally attack you. I'm just saying that you may have other things that interest you and football is probably not very high on that list. It's probably the best for you and the football team that you didn't play. If you were not happy you probably had a negative attitude, and kids that are trying and working their butts off don't need that around anyway

Elwayfan, I agree with you and what you said. Pantherpro was better off not playing because he wouldn't have been taking too very well if he was pouting around and being negative. There is really no difference in the time that is put towards football now and when I played in the early 80's. These kids that don't play are lazy or extremely excuse oriented. It is always everybody else's fault and not their own. A lot of these kids have no sense of pride and history.

This thread has drifted off topic, from the original discussion of the game. Feel free to discuss football issues in another Pikeville thread, but this one has run it's course.
