Best overall player in the mountains???
#61
Lets see Boggs has played QB. FS. LB, CB hell i even seen him play Dline against Sheldon last year. Myself that is a player. Boggs is the type of player just put him in. Kicker and seen him punt once. There is alot of good players this year. to many to talk about. Phsforever. Why would a coach play his only QB on the other side of the ball if there was no need to?

Exactly. And like I said, he is a VERY good player, but really, between Boggs and Maynard, who is more valuable to the team as a whole? Randy long snaps, plays QB, OLB, Safety, WR, etc. Boggs plays QB except once in a while. It is not a knock on him at all, and Chapman is smart not to take chances on him getting hurt, because if he did, your season would go in the tank.

Like you said, too many good ones to possibly list them all, but it makes for a fun debate.

Based only on what I've seen - Hazard/Somerset, Pikeville/Harlan, Bell County/Middlesboro - all around performance on D and O, I'd probably go with Maynard.

As an unbiased fan who has seen them both play several times Boggs is the better QB, period.

I never said he wasn't, we are talking about OVERALL. And if Chapman would report stats to KHSAA, we would be able to compare total yards per game as a percentage of the team's offense for a better comparison on the OVERALL abilities. Randy runs, throws, catches, etc. If we were debating best QB, I would give it to Boggs in a heartbeat, with Randy not even in my top 5 in the mountains.

It's great that these kids you mention play multiple positions. I reckonize most of there names and their all great players. The question was, " who's the best"? Hands down its JJ Jude. Look at his past 3 years playing and the schedule JC had! Do those other great players have that same resume as him. I don't think so!

he is the best RB in the moutains! best OVERALL PLAYER is questionable! IMO

If you are actually talking the best OVERALL player in the mountains - After watching the Hazard Somerset game. i would have to say it is Alex Lange from Somerset. Overall - he does it all and all very good. He played Quarterback, Running back, kicked off, kicked extra points, punted, and played outside linebacker, never comes off the field. A complete all around player!

Re-read the topic header. It is best OVERALL player. Jude is unquestionably one of the best RB's in the mountains and state-wide. But we are talking overall. One position specialists are a dime a dozen anymore.

I've seen a lot of high school football over the past 30 years or so and Brewer is a WINNER. He's a big reason why HCHS has been so good the past two years. He can do it all. No one in eastern Kentucky is in a league above him.

I'd put Roark at qb and Davenport from bell at rb against any of those guys.
#74
JJ Jude-Johnson Central
Matt Robinson-PCC
Corey Davenport-Bell

It's between those 3 I think, I would probably give the slight edge to Jude.

dont forget terry watts from elmshaw highschool!

The header for this thread should have been "best all purpose player".

You haven't realized just about every thread lately turns into a Perry or Harlan County thread?

No, just tired of hearing the freaking debate take over ever thread. Keep it to one thread or the other.

This thread is meant for discussion about the best players in the Mnts. Perry and Harlan have a few players that deserve to be in this debate.

Fine, some posters need to stick to the point then, and not the schedule, or if Perry invented football, or is Harlan County perfecting it, blah blah blah.
#83
Davenport, hands down the best player in the Mtns. He does it against great competition. Their staff is not about just trying to get him good numbers like some schools. Look at this year. LexCath and Lafayette are most likely the 2 best teams in Lex. He ran all over them. Against Lafayette he basically carried them on offense the 2nd half after being down 2 TDs. He returns kicks for TDs, plays great defense (has several INTs I believe) and of course runs the football great. No one in the mtns has done what hes done this year against the quality teams hes played against.

:redboxer:JJ Jude - Johnson Central
Hands down as far as I'm concerned. I just wish he was on my team!

Then maybe u should have watched some more football so you would know what you are talking about.

I know he don't have much help but I would put Bryant from Whitley in this conversation. The kid plays hard every down, I have really enjoyed watching him.Confusedinglepar
#87
What about the Bryant kid from Whitley? Kid is a beast running the ball and on defense. Broke a school record last year in tackles with 198 as a sophomore.

That would be close to 20 tackles a game. 1 of 2 things are true if those stats are accurate. The rest of his defense uses a nap for their stance or he is headed to the NFL.
#89
Matt Robinson is the best all around football player in Eastern Kentucky. Austin Johnson from Hazard aint to bad either.
#90
That's a tough one.. there are so many
