I use to use them until I had my boys. I drive as careful as I can now because I responsible for such precious people.

Radar detectors work great. Ive still never got a ticket

I told my parents that I wanted one for my birthday.

The way I see it, I need one because I KNOW that I can drive safely and comfortably in areas that the speed limit is a bit low. If I feel good about driving 55 in a 35 mph zone then I would do it. I want to know if a cop would catch me in a situation like that.

Pikeville's main roads are six lanes yet have a speed limit of 55 mph. I can drive 85 safely on those roads with no problems. I am careful with speeding.

Tribe the thing is if they want to be butt hole they could write you for going 56 in a 55

Speeding is Speeding no matter how fast you are going. LOL The Ticket is a little bit higher the faster you are going.
#36
I understand that. I just don't want to get caught going 55 in a 35 or really any speed over the limit for that matter. If I feel safe driving a certain speed then I am going to drive it regardless of police. With a radar dectector I will have a heads up and it lessens my chances of getting caught.

I have a Rocky Mountain thats a Radar/Laser Detector and Jammer that I keep in the coal truck, They are illegal in a commercial vehicle so I have a el cheapo to give them if they ask for it..lol.......

Yeah, If i say I don't have one they will search the truck, So I may as well just give them an old cheap one.....

The reason for this tribe is that there are so many turnoffs and sudden stops that people could be making, not to mention all of the stop lights that are installed there. And another reason that it isn't 85 is that the higest the speed limit can be in the state is 65. But not on that section, way too dangerous. Only wide open roads such as interstates or the 4-lane section of the Mtn parkway should be higher than 55. But I'm not saying that I drive 55 Confusedhh:

They are trying to get the interstate speed raised to 70 mph...... Which is good...

But I also heard they are trying to lower Commercial vehicles to 50 mph... Which is stupid. This will only cause more accidents....
#42
Tribe.. I don't doubt you can drive good.. But i hope you were exaggerating on 85. I've been dumb enough to run between 85-125 in pikeville, but it was stupid of me.. People around here can't drive to good, and aren't courteous to other drivers at all.. so no where you go in pike county would 85 be considered safe.

A Vehicle Enforcement Officer told me that US 23 from Ashland to just past Pikeville is one of the top 10 dangerous roads in the COUNTRY. I don't know about you, but 65 MPH is fast enough and illegal on this road. Anyone driving faster than 65 is just inviting themselves to become one of the statistics that made US 23 one of the top 10 dangerous roads.

If oyu are one that drives faster than 65, please slow down. I'd hate to see one of our BGR members have a bad accident.

Average speed for me going through Pikeville is probably 62-65 mph but if I am passing a car or getting ****ed at someone, I would run about 85. That is a dangerous stretch of road, I do agree. I too have heard that it is one of the most dangerous roads in the country. CTD, don't worry. I don't drive that fast all of the time. There are some stretches that I run about 75 on from my house to Pikeville and in honesty, I probably shouldn't but everyone does it in those straight streaks. Kind of hard not to.
