dont get mad, its just the truth. he has control over high school, and last time i checked he only gets paid to coach the high school, if he coaches the middle school, then he can have control over both.

Imo Spurlock did a good job at Hazard and Clay Co. He don't really play a very popular style but he's a good defensive coach and Sheldon Clark will be thrilled his there coach.

well if his that bad and is a SR then cut him because if he wasnt who he was then he wouldnt have a chance to make the team cause everybody knows a new coach dont have no needs or interest in a SR that cant help him out in the one year there going to be there so why even waste the roster space when a FR or SOPH kid could be dressing and getting good experience..

oh yeah one more thing he has two daughters that are great baseketball players. lol i bet you anything Newsome was pushing hard to get him.. but theres nothing wrong with that i just hope they chose him for the right reasons.

Congrats on the hire

From what I understand that having two girls that play basketball had no bearing on why he was hire. I truly believe that it was because he was the best man for the job and from everything I have read an heard he is just that and a little more.

Congrats SC and good luck Coach Spurlock.

Kevin is a good coach and will do a good job at SC. His problem has always been coaching offense. Maybe Hager will teach him the Belly offense.

BobcatDad, Spurlock lost alot of players at Clay because of his insistance on making the athletes chose between aau basketball vs summer football workouts and passing leagues. With the better players chosing football over basketball at Clay, he really hindered the program from fielding the best team possible. With a new beginning, I'm sure he will handle this situation better at SC.
Kevin is a pretty good defensive coach, but he always has struggled offensively. His teams are always in shape but the players never seemed to improve. His practices regiments were questioned at both Clay and Hazard. I think he needs a good veteran asst. coach on his staff. He just inherited a couple at Clay that weren't the best of help.

He won a state all A championship and a regional title. I would say that's more than alot of so called good offensive coaches will ever do. If I remember correctly he coached a kid at Hazard named Justin Hicks that improved every year he was there and as a senior was an all stater.
Good luck Coach Spurlock!

Super Freak, you just have to understand that Fan First has an infatuation with Coach Spurlock. He has consistently lied on this and any other thread he has ever posted on. Nothing Spurlock has or ever will do will ever be enough for him. No sense trying to argue with him. He will PM people and call names but refuses to accept a PM back for a personal conversation. A pure coward and liar who can't leave a good man alone. I think if you go ask Coach Dixon at Hazard he would tell you that he and Spurlock had a great relationship in their years together there. I am sure he and Hagar will do just fine at Sheldon Clark. Being a defensive coach hasn't hurt Coach Hatcher too much in the past and from Coach Spurlock's record it hasn't hurt him to much either. Why can't certain people just get off his back and move on. I am sure both SC and Clay will have good seasons next season. I for one will be cheering for both.

I agree 100 %. Clay County basketball is like Notre Dame football. The days of competing for a state championship are slim to none.

I heard that Coach Spurlock is doing a good job with the kids this summer. Glad to hear there are many kids out to play. Does anyone know their summer schedule? I would really like to watch them play?

They are 7-3 right now beating Raceland and losing to Pike Central yesterday
On Tuesday they beat Belfry and Elliott County.
They also have wins over Wolfe co, Boyd Co, Hazard and I dont remember the other team

Spurlock is a fine Christian man and a good coach.
He was successful at Hazard and Clay Co.
And I think he will be at Sheldon Clark.

As a former player for coach spurlock at Hazard, I can say Sheldon Clark is not only getting a good basketball coach but a great person. I was a player on both coach spurlocks All A State Champion team and his only Regional Champion team and if everyone stays out of his way he can do a good job.....
---To all Sheldon Clark players believe in Coach Spurlock he can make u a Champion and teach u respect...
Best of Luck Spurlock!!!!

The powers to be couldn't tell him what to do and it drove them nuts. Clay Co simply did not have the players while he was there to win a regional championship. Give him some time and he will do well at Sheldon Clark.Wrong,Spurlock was out at Hazard because he tried to control football players time in the summer at Hazard. He just didn't understand that football was just[more]as important as basketball.

Wrong. Coach Spurlock was out at Hazard because the Superintendent did not have the guts to stand up to Doc Gabbard. Bottom line.
Football players time in the summer was the excuse to make the move.

I'm sure that it would be a dream come true to have your most athletic stick to just one sport its just not happening. Alot 5A and 6A schools can't do that, or won't do that. Theres always going to be a fuss...:blabbermo
