Way to go CARDS....:Clap: Considering where this program has been in the last few years this was a good hire for this program. Maybe now they can get back on track. They have maybe the best point guard in the 15th. Lafferty is a very nice player and they have a nice young player in Chase Kirk also. :flush:

The New ERA of SC Basketball has begun... I was disappointed in harless being fired because I thought that someone else was going to get the job. I want to wish Coach Spurlock the best of luck at SC.

Yeah first trip to the reason in six years. If we would have spurlock last year we might have been able to beat shelby valley. The program was finially back on track, 3 years from now we will see where it is at. I do wish the team good luck though. Does any of you have anything about basketball. WOW ITS NOT ABOUT WINNING AT SHELDON CLARK.............................................................

So who will coach bring in as his assistants
05-11-2010, 06:02 PM
I keep trying to leave, but down and out you are right my friend it is your right to write what you want, and you sure do with your paper, so it is my right to get on here and tell the truth. You may have not been on the committee, but i guarentee you know who was. So i have let it go and i have told you all everything that will happen. My peeps and i our leaving, and for the assistants , i think i already told you that would be. So just wait and see, 2 years from now, you guys will say uhhh that fan in the stands person they new what they were talking about. But dont worry, down and out will twist it the way those who stay close to him want him to. Its kind of funny though that down and out dont like people talking about him, when he sure dont care to let everybody have it he dont like. SEE YA IN THE FALL AND PERHAPS EVEN IN THE STANDS

Good Hire for Sheldon Clark.

Way to go Sheldon Clark, having lived in Clay County for a while I can Spurlock is a quality coach and person and while I didn't get to know him it will be nice to see him turn the sc program around.
05-12-2010, 11:16 AM
Spurlock is the right man for the job and maybe he can bring some discipline to the program because there hasn't been for the last three under moe. larry and curly. Great hire and congrats to SC.
05-12-2010, 12:32 PM
That will be determined.
05-12-2010, 12:44 PM
After failing big time and getting ran out of his last stop, I think he understands very well that this is a very important time in his career. His credibility and lack of coaching skills were exposed at Clay Co and now he can just relax with no high expectations.
05-12-2010, 12:52 PM
This will be make or break for Coach Spurlock's Career. I've heard Johnny Martin is coming to be an assistant (truth or rumor).
05-12-2010, 12:53 PM
regardless of what fan first has to say Sheldon Clark is glad to have coach Spurlock. Maybe you all can get Bobby Keith to come back because no matter is hired they will be in his shadow.
05-12-2010, 01:00 PM
Fanfirst, you're a freakin idiot. Forgive me for getting personal, but what are you basing your words on about Spurlock? What real talent did he have at Clay that was better than Corbin? And is it his fault his most important player this past season couldn't play because of a torn ACL from football? I guarantee if Hooker had been on the team this season that Clay would have been region champs. It is sickening to read people's comments on here about coaches who win over 20 games a year, district champs every year, with good talent but not talent that is normal for Clay, yet because they don't win a region every year, they can't coach. How many years was Clay the best team in the region when Jones was coaching and couldn't win the region? And he has the same amount of region titles as Spurlock, 1! And Spurlock has a state championship as well.
The best thing I have to say about people who have nothing bad to say is GET A REAL LIKE!
GO SPURLOCK!! GO CARDS!

After reading some of the posts on here I see where the search committee was named and it sounded like a good group of people but yet they were belittled on here. Man I thought where I lived before coming to Martin County was bad but this place takes the cake. From what I understand that this Spurlock guy is a top level coach judging by his record but I guess that hasn't set to well with some people because they could not measure up being a good coach. I wish coach Spurlock the best and maybe a new day has dawned in Martin County but in the short time I have been here it has become obvious that some folks won't things rest. You know if the former guy didn't do the job he should have been fired, thats the way it happens at all levels of sports but after reading a couple of these posts I don't think bragging going to the regional tournament one time in so many years is a feather in the cap if you know what I mean. Some folks just need to get a life and keep their venom to themselves.

Considering how many coaches have been run off since Bobby Keith and that most of Clay County's finest citizens are either in prison or headed there, who from Clay knows anything about credibility. Coach Spurlock's career record at Hazard and Clay County is 169-75. He has won five district championships, 1 regional championship, 4 all "A" regional championships, and 1 all "A" state championship. IMO this is a good catch for Sheldon Clark whose boys teams have been struggling over the past few years. One thing he doesn't do is kiss the rears of the influential, wealthy parents who coddle their kids. He also brings a daughter who is going to be dandy basketball player who will be a fine addition to an already good girls team.

With Hager being one of the assistants you know the team will be in shape that's for sure Im excited to see the basketball season start this year for I think it will be a good season for the Cards.

Jones has four region championships and two All "A" state titles. He won one at Clay.
Clay wasn't the best team the year they won it under Jones. Bell and Cawood were probably better

I seen that regional tournament and it was one of the few in the 13th that I felt like wasn't dictated by the officiating andI am an outsider from another region. Jones was pushed out by the same peons that have been pushing every coach out since Coach Keith retired.

You hit the nail on the head! Very well said. Spurlock is a very good coach who don't take any crap. That's why they ran him off at Hazard. The powers to be couldn't tell him what to do and it drove them nuts. Clay Co simply did not have the players while he was there to win a regional championship. Give him some time and he will do well at Sheldon Clark.

Very well said Super freak. We here in Martin County are glad to have coach Spurlock and we all wish him the best of luck because fans here do very much want a winning basketball program and most feel that Spurlock is the man to get the job done because he is a proven winner and a quality person off the court so its win , win for SCHS.:Thumbs::Thumbs:

Not true he was given full control of the program and a certain kid is a Sr

What I have been told that the new coach is a full control of all basketball K - 12 which has been needed for the past few years. After the last three years its going to take him a couple of years to try and get straighened out after the mess that has been made. I am just glad my son has left there but having watched games over the past three years it was an embrassment but now maybe coach Spurlock can get things moving again.
05-13-2010, 04:11 PM
he may have been given control over high school, but i can assure you my friend he by any means will have control over middle and elementary. good luck go cards
05-13-2010, 04:12 PM
by no means
05-13-2010, 07:47 PM
I spoke with some people that were at the press conference and was told that both Blackburn and Fletcher said that Spurlock would be in control of K - 12 so unless those people lied then you must know a lot more that they do and have control at the other two levels. It sad when grownups feel like they have had their favorite taken toy away and thats what it sounds to me by reading some of these posts. Having lived in Clay County I know that coach Spurlock is a good coach and will do well at SC but if you say that he will not be in control at the middle school or elementary levels is like crying over spilled milk. By talking with people here over the past few weeks I can say that one guy on here is just selfish and self centered. Maybe he should watch the show Justified and come back to reality. Man I am beginning to believe that I have moved to the bowels of h---.
