3A Playoffs Repeat of 08?

RoShamBo Wrote:I think it'll be Somerset vs. Belfry out of the East. I don't know if Belfry should come into Somerset thinking their physicality will win them the game the way it did in 2007. This Somerset team relies more on their physicality in the run game and on the defensive side of the ball than the last team they saw when they came to Somerset.

I think we are in for some good playoff football in the East this year.

3A football is woefully down all across the state....and Eastern KY is no exception.

Somerset didn't even leave their locker room in 2007. That game was embarassing.

All Somerset had that year was John Cole, and he still went for big numbers against Belfry's double coverage. You obviously were not at the game if you thought it was "embarassing". Somerset kept it within ten pretty much the entire game until a late Belfry TD made it 38-21, which was the final. I agree Somerset never really threatened but they did not get embarassed. If Belfry wins then I will say that they are the better team, but I am not going to say that Somerset can't win because Belfry beat one of Somerset's mediocre teams two years ago.:dontthink

It was not embarrassing. but Somerset was never in it. They actually scored some points late to get it close. Cole had a nice game, but that was the plan. Belfry knew the Jumpers had no where near enough firepower to actually beat Belfry. It was never close. BTW, with the schedule Somerset has played this year, you can see why some people are looking at them as a threat.

Cole did most of his damage late against Belfry reserves..Kenny Hughes was the Jumper with the most sustained success against Belfry. He was a monster at HB and ran very hard... his shear size was what gave Belfry trouble as they constantly hit him in the backfield only for him to shed the tackle and get a nice game.

Belfry imposed their will on Somerset and actually bottled Cole up very nicely until the game was out doubt. Belfry also physically abused the poor Somerset QB with pressure that game.

Believe me....I was there....it was bone cold... my Dad and I drove up from our vacation in Pigeon Forge. I'll stick to my statement....the game was embarassing. Somerset played uninspired...no fans...Belfry had 3x-4x more fans than the BriarJumpers.

Cole made a few nice plays....but all were inconsequential.

Somerset never made a game of it....

Ok now I know you are crazy. Somerset has NEVER had a home game and rarely plays an away game where the opposing fans have even twice as many people much less 3X-4X as many people like you stated.
I don't understand the point you are trying to make with this. Yes, maybe Belfry's fans are more dedicated than Somerset's and yes Belfry has done better than Somerset the past few years. I thought we were talking about this year with this year's teams.

Apparently....you weren't in attendance...because that was definitely the case. That game just left a very bad taste in my mouth. We drove a long, long way to see a highly competitive ballgame...and it was a dud. You mentioned the 2007 game is your OP...and I just responded to it. Sorry. I also disagreed with the statement that "we're in for some good football in Eastern KY"....because IMO, we're not. 3A is exceptionally weak this year...including Belfry. Believe me....Belfry's not looking farther than their very next game because they're simply not talented enough to. They'll be lucky to fight their way thru a very medicore set of teams such as Pike Central, SC, Breathitt, Russell and Mason.

Usually Belfry, Breathitt, Russell...or all of them at times have high quality teams that are legitimate state contenders. But quite honestly...until someone in 3A proves that Central can be beaten.......it's all a muddy mess.

Unfortunately...this is the state 3A football is in.........Central is in a weakened state...but 3A is so diluted....that it's really quite depressing.

Agree to disagree. You are wrong about the attendance but it is a stupid argument to have anyways and I'm leaving it at that.
#40
It was at minimum 2-1 in favor of Belfry. Even the Somerset people in the press box commented how the people in their town just do not support a winning program like they should.

ucfb can we now put to rest that union county will not put up a fight against central, they got beat at home by hopkins county central by 14
#43
union beat HCCHS 9-6 the score posted on the KHSAA WAS WRONG!!!! and we beat then in overtime, on their field.
#44
Union County is not a lock to come out of the 1st Region. McLean, Edmonson and Russellville are all dangerous.

I think it may be Mason Co.s year to make to to the final show down.

I will be surprised if they make it to Bowling Green and if they do they will get killed by Central.

i belive either belfry or sc can beat mason, but we will see

Sheldon Clark has to get by Russell at Russell first. I'm sure it won't be an easy win for them to get back to Belfry.

If anybody, Central will definatly be in the finals, who they play I dont know but they'll be hard to stop IMO

You are right, imo, Central is the champ and favorite until somebody knocks them off.

I was there Pirate fans were in full force for the high octane offense we were supposed to see from the Briar Jumpers. AT LEAST 2-1 in favor of the Belfry fans.
#58
Central is a good team not as good as last year but still one of the better teams in 3a with a strong d and a speedy offense with 4.5 speed everywhere it should be a tough match up with any one in the state. i believe that they will go as far as they want this year with this class being wide open.
#59
I think we match up with Central better than in 07, despite 07 being a better team.
#60
I guess due to local weather anomalies, we then can expect some fields to be much wetter than others. I recall one such event occurring in Graves County for the Lone Oak game.
