Have they made anything official yet on who will be coaching EC? I also heard that HD Fraley was going to be the new assistant.

Yes, its true Dave and Joey did resign last year. I talked to Dave the other day and he told me that he was going to Phelps to coach the Jr. High girls team and to help J. R. Vanhoose with the girls high school team.

Is his assistant Joey McCarty going with him?

They (Dave and J.R.) want him to. He's been asked but not told them for sure yet. Hopefully he will stay at EC and help with that program.

How will these changes affect the EC and/or Phelps jr. high girl teams? Will it help either one be a couny champion?

It will probably be a rebuilding year for both teams. EC lost all it's talent last year in the 5 eighth graders. Don't think they have much in this years team. Not really sure about Phelps. Good luck to all county teams.

Potter is by far the best player in the county. Dorton will be good, and now they have a few new players to help out.

Since we are talking about Pike Co. and Pikeville or Dorton winning; I am assuming they mean Rachel Potter. Is this correct? She is a really good player and will make a difference in how the championship turns out. Good luck to both teams, they are both good.

Is the Potter Rachel Pooter from Pikeville? Aren't the other Potters in high school? Are they related? Someone said the others are playing for other schoools, is she transferring with them?

I would say that Dorton has all the pieces to win the county. Pikeville will be right there with them they lack depth and expeience. I like the cougars to finish third.

Of what I have seen, Smith and Potter play really well together. I can't wait to see how everything turns out.

Not for sure but with what I've heard and seen it looks like a two horse race with Pikeville and Dorton, this should be a very good game when they meet.

Pikeville, powered by the 2 Rachels....................

I know the Potter girl. She is only 13 and is a true 8th grader. I have watched her play several games this year and she is the best player in this region.

I have watched her play several games also, she is a very good player but I'm not so sure that she is even the best player on her team the Smith girl is not bad herself. After the games I've watched this year I think that Dorton has a couple of pretty solid players themselves and seem to have the deepest team. Should be a good game when these two teams meet.:Clap:

It will be a good game. According to the other posts on here they are meeting Monday evening, but I am sure you already knew that. I agree with you that the Smith girl is not bad; actually, she is a really good player. I feel those two play well together, better than any other two players on any middle school teams. Yet, as individual players, Potter is more fine detailed and mature with her playing skills: protects the ball wonderfully in press situations, passing is far beyond her years with strength and accuracy, holds her head UP and sees the floor better, and Gee how many assists. Not a ball hog which is odd for this age.
I still think they look better together than apart. But unlike a little rusty, I am sure she is the best on the team in my opinion. But everybody has one!

I have to agree with In Between on the Potter girl being the best in the region, and all you have to do is watch. She is the fuel behind that Maroon Panther Engine #13! If she fouls out (which is what teams are hoping they can do early in the game) they lose. No one else on that team is strong enough to get the ball up and see the lanes. They have a couple of girls that can shoot as long as she is feeding them. Hindsight, they do not seem to see her. Great worker. Go Engine #13!!!!!!!

Sounds to me like someone is trying to cause a little trouble for the Pikeville girls team irateSho I think both girls (Potter and Smith) are really talented, but neither are superstars...
*choooooooo chooooooooooooooo!!!!!!*

I think Angus may be right on this one. Like saying before I think the Potter girl is mature beyond her years and I hope she doesn't let people saying things like this affect the playing on the floor because people are probably trying to get in thir heads a little. Since i have been following, she does not play selfish. Don't listen to trouble panthers, you have a good thing going.
If you lose (and you will) beat yourself do not let other people being troublemakers and ball hogs do it.

I agree. Rachel Potter seems to be as unselfish as any good ballplayer I've seen. I'm sure her coach wishes she was a little less unselfish because she often passes up shots. I think the whole team plays well together.

I agree with most on here that Pikeville has a pretty good team but they have not been challenged yet, I have a little hunch that they will real soon (tonight). As for a prediction I really don't know but I don't think they will like the outcome, but anything can happen.
09-14-2009, 11:46 AM
My prediction is Dorton by 10 (at least). They are better coached and play more people effectively. They are deeper with a lot more seasoned players. I like the way that small school does things. More people involved, more practices, just a better program. Good luck to both teams, but Pikeville can not beat Dorton tonight. May the bst team win!!!!! It will be exciting. Can not wait for the scores to be posted.

Ball hogs? I haven't seen any ball hogs on Pikeville's team. I've heard that both Rachels are averaging about 20 points a game. If so, then who's the ball hog(s)?

The little engine that could sure didn't do anything tonite against Dorton and she didn't even have a chaser on her like #14 did. To be the best in the region she sure didn't play like it tonite. To win ballgames the whole team needs to be included. There's no I in team.....
