Where did this 20 number come from? Leaks from the Principal or V.O. I'm naive but have played many tacticle games myself..

That is not true. The BOE has a lot of influence, but the pricipal has the last say so. The BOE can say I will cut or give you teaching positions if you hire who I want. All in all it is up to FD.

I think we can relax some as no matter who the head coach may be we will have Coach Roberts there for our kids. He hasn't missed a beat with them and intends to hang in there for the boys regardless. As a parent that gives me some relief as well as my son.

Coach B needs to seriously be considered for the job. He made Betsy Layne better when he was there and that alone is a GREAT BIG hurdle.

The people, parents, and players of Shelby Valley need to keep in mind that some of the "posters" on this thread are not all from that area and may have hidden agendas. Some posters are from rival schools or possible rival schools that would love to see the SV football team flop on this situation. I personally hope they get this right up there, for the kids and the future of their program.

SV should go after Marty Jagger from Mercer CO.

Would he come all the way over here to coach?

Anyone else believe Wildcat FB Parent is actually the president of the Mike Roberts fan club? Has Roberts even applied?

Valley Blue- FYI NO he hasn't at this time from what I hear...That I guess is why his efforts and dedication should be admired......and FYI he isn't the one I have voiced my support for. That is REAL dedication when you actually do something to prove yourself while not expecting something in return. Coach Roberts is the team's assistant coach. He isn't one of the applicants who feel the need to campaign, attack other people's character or demean others to get something he wants. Instead it has been all about the players and any of them can or will tell you that.

Hopefully we will have a VA resident appointed to the position :-)

FB Parent--if Roberts hasn't applied and is planning on remaining an assistant I commend him for his dedication. The new coach will have a heck of an assistant to work with.:Cheerlead

You will see...and soon

I have no problem with a new coach from out of the Valley area. Having a blank slate coming into the job would be a good thing.
06-04-2009, 11:56 PM
Yeah...rumor is we may have one by next Fri...
06-05-2009, 12:01 AM
Hope the rumor is true. The new coach needs to get in there and get to know the boys and see what he has to work with which should be a decent team.

In the past the head coach named his own assistants. It may be hard for a new coach to come to SV with the stipulation they have to take 'an already hired assistant coach' that they may not be able to work with and have different coaching techniques. This may make the new head coach feel used for one year just waiting for the assistant to move up.

From what I hear SV does not have much on staff to choose from for assistants and I don't think they will make a job for an assistant coach. Many schools hire HC with an assistant or two already in the program. The assistant will just have to learn the new coach's system.

Roberts is already hired as an assistant FB coac and is on board for next year. Their are still one or two folks in the are a that would make good paraprofessional assistants as well....and from what I hear interviews are def Mon and Tues and there are a couple folks of all the applicants that would do well...

Who is interviewing? Is the guy Saunders recommended going to interview?

Wrong hootie, my friend, the principal does not have the power to hire anyone, the super is the only person in the district that has that power.

Well, I know that is the way it is in Pike County. Some Supers have a way of getting the hire that they want, but the bylaws of Site Base state that the council makes the decision in which the Principal gets the last say so.
