Next Johnson Central Coach

Coach Wireman has done such a good job and the program has been on top for such a long time. What coach would want to follow that? Any success a new coach has will always be compared to Coach Wireman's success. Who ever takes it will be a short timer the first couple of years in my opinion.

No doubt it would be tuff! But I believe it can be done. I really think Matt Ratliff @ paintsville has done an outstanding job replacing the legendary BMR. His winning % wasn't great, but how the players improved by the end of the season was incredible in my opinion.
Tucker Howard has had a rough time replacing Adkins, but you can't complain about his winning %. Just coaches these days have such win immediately pressure put on them, that they really can't coach the way they need to. Best of luck to whoever replaces Wireman, I know that he/she will have the full backing of Wireman.:Cheerlead

Right...As of now he is known for not getting P-Vill back to the Regionals in how long? Which brings to question how long has it been since Paintsville was not playing in the Regional Tournament? Winning 5 games is not something I would want to be known for after taking over for a coach like BMR.

Paintsville actually won 7 games this past season and I thought Matt did a great job with those boys considering the they lost their top 6 players and they started some young kids this season as well. It actually hasn't been that long since Paintsville wasn't in the regional tournament, it was the 2003/04 season and that team had a record of 6-16 and the starting five included two 8th graders and one freshman. Give him time and Matt will have Paintsville back in the region.

Hey Coach,

Thanks for answering my question Coach. Always wondered how come you had no interest in the P-Ville boys job? Thought it had been longer than that.
They started some 8th graders this season as well I think.
I don't know if they offered stuff like that now, but I do know when they were shopping around for a boys basektball coach they offered a lot of stuff. By the way I am a teacher and coach.
I still think that is incorrect - stuff - maybe a job.... but cars, houses, etc. I don't think so.

Hopefully not in Johnson County.

Just time for me to move on and out of Paintsville. I always thought it would be hard to coach at my old high school, especially since my brother is now in 8th grade there and I would have to be his coach. I am happy where I am anyway!

Thanks, but I am very, very happy where I am at here at Phelps and I am not looking to go anywhere else, or take another job. I am trying to build something here and not looking to have a couple of good years and leave to go to another job. I just want to see what I can do here at Phelps!

Ya they will build a program with the majority of players coming from JCHS. Kinda of funny they can't seem to have a program with out Johnson County kids. But, then they are quick to brag on how great Pville is when the majority were educated in the elementary and some middle school in the county.
Funny.

Don't think we wouldn't love to have you! But I understand and love your decision to stay! I wish most coaches were like that. It seems that they are wanting to go somewhere for a couple of years and make a name for themselves and move on to something better. What happened to loyalty and thinking of the players and community? That is what I respected most about BMR. They said when he took over the program, it wasn't very tradition rich. But look what he did! I like the Wireman's and Newsome's of JC SC. They loved the community that revolved around their programs.
What I am trying to say is, I know you have several different places probably wanting you as their next coach, most would say jump at the chance, but I say do what you want and believe in YOUR program and by watching you in the tourney, I can tell your players love playing for you.
Keep up the good work!!:notworthy

Well, since Paintsville is in Johnson County, I guess we could consider them all Johnson County kids, technically speaking right? I don't know about the situation there at Paintsville now, but with such a small county, and the two schools being so close to each other, you are inevitably going to have kids from the county or the city playing sports at the other school.

What is the big deal with kids changing schools anyway? Some of them have different "wants" then others, and sometimes their parents have different "wants" than other parents. That is life. The majority of people today who work will not retire with the company they started out with, that is just life. Just like kids who start out in certain elementary schools may not graduate from that school system. Life happens, it happens to everyone. At the end of the day, does it really matter where kids go to school, as long as they are happy? I think it really bothers some people who have no control over things, that they actually have no control. I say as long as the kids are happy why does it matter? Shouldn't you feel that way?

Well, I do appreciate that. I must say that I have learned that if the players who you coach know that you love them and care for them, they will play harder for you and reciprocate that love. I always try to remember that I am coaching kids. Some may have alot and other may have nothing, but I try to treat them all the same. If they need a place to stay, they are welcome in my home (my wife and I have actually become pretty good at Rock Band because of this), if they need money or food we try to help as well. My wife and I have no children right now, but all of the girls on our team are like our daughters and are treated as such. Sometimes it is hard to deal with them, but it is like a big family, we may have disagreements or arguments, but at the end of the day they all know how I feel about them!

Is your brother going to be as good as you? Just always seen you as a boys
coach for some reason.

That alone would be enough to go.

I think Billy Gillispie would be a great fit. He MIGHT be a good enough coach to coach HS girls AND he can date his players! LOL:lmao:

It's true they all love him. and we can all see he treats them all with such respect and love. Phelps and the community is so lucky to have someone like JR around. He is a great person and if some day was to come that he left Hornetville whoever got him would not only get a great coach but a great man and a great mentor for whatever team he went to.

What is wrong with Coach Watson? I think he's done a good job over the years. Sounds to me like some diva didn't get to play, so they are out to trash a good coach. Get over yourself, Faith. You are old news.

BballFan63 Wrote:That is so not true. I don't know of any school system, with budget cuts coming right and left, that has money to throw around. I take it you don't work in the school system to make a statement like that.

The cuts are here and more coming, but doesn't JC have several millions in the bank? Johnson County schools is far from not having money. I am not saying that they would use this money to buy a house or car for a coach/teacher, why would they? This is a consistantly top notch girls program that will be right back in the top of the region in a few years. But yes they do have lots of money in the bank.

I glanced over some of your posts, and I'm going to venture a guess that you're not from Johnson County. So, your information on the MILLIONS that we supposedly have in the bank is either hearsay or you read it in the newspaper. Didn't your mama ever tell you not to believe everything you hear or read in the paper? Unless you're the finance person for Johnson County Schools or their accountant, I'm guessing you don't really know the money situation in Johnson County. Millions - I don't think so.

I would find it hard to believe that Jason would have time becuase as far as I know he is currently the Family Resource Director at Central Elementary, Johnson Central Lady Eagles Softball Coach and President of Johnson County Youth Baseball League (Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth). Then you suggest that there is a possibility of adding Johnson Central Lady Eagle Basketball Coach...wow.
