Immature Parents

I do agree with you though that some adults need to be more mature when attending their children's ballgames. Sometimes you gotta just know when to shut your mouth!!!

Seems like these people are trying to live vicariously through their children. I get especially annoyed with the parents who have never even played sports and yet criticize the child.

phs1986 Wrote:WHY just Belfry being mentioned? I can personally tell you from my own experience that I can name 4 others off the top of my head that are FAR worse than Belfry ever dared to be. FAR WORSE!!!

AND... just for those who think I am again defending Belfry..... My son played for another school for 4+ years..... SO I do have insight from the other side of the fence!!

I know of parents and coaches affiliated with another certain team that really showed themselves during the playoffs last year when Belfry beat them (at Belfry, by the way). Belfry players, fans and coaches remained class acts, however. TongueirateSho

I agree. I would have never even expected my parents to become upset if I was booed. My parents would have told me to get tougher and get over it. Smile

I think I might somewhat agree with the basic premise that kids need to be able to take criticism. If my kids ever hear something like that when they get older, I hope they just use it as motivation to play even harder.

But your post really seems to be letting the nutty parents off the hook way too easy. While kids hopefully learn to just brush off catcalls from the stands, that doesn't make the parents who yell such things any less of a moron.

Bottom line, if you are parent at a game, and you are yelling insults at the kids out on the field, you are a LOSER. No exceptions.

90% of the time they boo you, u r killing there team. and the orter 10% you are a good player ( that team don't like you).

As far as the worse fans go I would have to go with Ironton. If you ever have to play there make sure you wear your helmet going off and on the field. For the one's that have played there they will know what I mean.
#43
Why did you post this in the High School area then? I thought you were talking about Varsity High School. No, matter you all have good resons to say the things you do. As for younger kids, true they don't understand this yet. But as they become young adults in high school they do. A BAD SPORT NO MATTER THE AGE NEEDS TO BE TOLD WHAT IS WRONG. So if a kid slugs your kid while playing on the field you wouldn't say anything?

Are you honestly defending these nutjobs who boo high school kids?

I suppose we should all start booing the heck out of all the kids at this Friday night's games. Maybe even call them a few insulting names. They may not realize it, but we will actually be doing them a favor, by helping them develop character and a tough skin. No thanks needed, just doing our part.

People who insult kids are really saints...

I would probably yell at the other team's coach to get him out of the game. I wouldn't call the kid a name.

As for my child, he would probably know to just slug the other kid back. Let the two of them handle it out on the field.

jgrubby Wrote:And thats ok?

Which part, yelling at the other team's coach to take his player out, or just letting the kids settle it on the field?

If you meant the former, I see nothing wrong with yelling at a coach. If you meant the latter, of course I think it's fine. I want my kids to know that it's ok for them to defend themselves.

jgrubby Wrote:Who said anything about calling him or her a name, its about Booing!!!!

Well, the thread was about immature parents. The first post may have referenced booing specifically, but plenty of other members have mentioned other behaviors of immature parents, such as yelling insults or even throwing objects on the field. Considering the thread title, I think these issues are fair game for discussion.

You would let your kid fight with another kid while playing a sport without consequence? You wouldn't say anything about or to the other kid for starting it. The coach is now responsible for the actions of these kids for fighting? That is exactly what I have posted on here. Letting other people handle our problems. Letting other people choose for us, and not say a thing about it. However, the post was to be about Booing another player not your child. This was merely my opinion. You stated that I or whomever I was defending are "nutjobs" for standing up and saying something. I was trying to say I would boo a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER who was UNSPORTSMAN like. Not to be mistaken for condoning physical or verbal violence. Yes, our society has an epidemic with parents who take it to another level. I have even seen it on the news, gun fights have broken out at pee wee games. But the topic was not stated clearly. You all were talking about little kids on a forum that is know to be about HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. So, BOO on this thread.

This topic was not started by neither myself NOR More Cowbell... It was started by another member WHO has not been online to defend WHY he/she placed it where it is. I do think however that it HAS been stated several times that we are MAINLY discussing elementary and middle school aged children which I do believe the thread was intended for. High school play is just another level up BUT to be honest with you they are kids too! Once you are out on your own and over the age of 18 your an adult in the eyes of the law anyway....

It has been my experience that things get pretty rough in Martin County. There was one event I went to that we had to leave the game early because of the fighting by the parents in the parking lot. I was so scared for the kids and of all things it was kids in the 5th and 6th grade playing. Can't these parents see what they are teaching these kids.

As for the first question, yes, I would support my children if they were defending themselves against some other kid who assaulted them. I'll turn the question around: would you want your child to just stand there and let themselves get slugged by another kid?

As for whether I would say something to the other kid, no I wouldn't. When parents who think they have to micromanage every aspect of their kids' lives get involved, that's when incidents like this spiral out of control. Better to let the kids themselves sort it out, unless someone is in immediate physical danger.

As for the coach being responsible for his players? Uh.. yeah? Of course it's not his fault if one of his players slugs another kid, the responsibility for each player's actions falls upon himself. But it is the coach's responsibility to get that kid out of the game immediately. He should also suspend the kid for a couple of games, just to get the message across. The offending player needs to know that there are always consequences for his actions, and the problem is that these days, no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions.

Finally, you were insinuating that I was only talking about little kids, and I wasn't. This is a high school forum, and I am talking about high school sports. I don't care if they are high school age, it's still wrong to boo or insult the players on the field. Adults should try to act like grown-ups for a change.

PHS Watergirl Wrote:Good Lord now I would never boo another child, but Booing is the least of your worries. In the late 70's and early 80's when traveling with the Paintsville Tigers you had to be careful of getting shot in Elkhorn City, Rocks and what ever else they could find to throw in Harlan, and a crazed Mom sitting on the football on the 50 yard for over 10 minutes (once again in Elkhorn City) the police finally had to carry her off the field. Her son couldnt even get her to move. These are not hearsay, I was there, I was in elementary school and maybe 9th grade but boy do I remember them. So see there are much things worse than booing kids but people with class wouldnt do it anyway. Or I should say, shouldnt.

All i have to say is LMAO!

I have often booed refs, umps & coaches even had a few words with the refs and umps, being a coach at one time. But to boo a child, nah, you need to have few words with the parent... lmao. When a ref or ump has a problem with a child or team, its time to get a ref or ump. That's what the blackball is for.
#60
I think parents need to quit sucking up to the coaches to get there kids more playing time.....but yea booing the kids is uncalled for
