Don't you hate them... Why would you boo a kid? People these days....

Did this happen to you? I have seen it happen many times myself at games of various sports. Believe me, it doesn't only happen during football season.

Some parents tend to get a little "over involved" in the sports that their children play. I myself have been known to get "hyper" at times but NEVER at another child. I mouth off at ref's, umpires, and even a coach or two..... LOL.... The only way I would ever get WWAAYYY outta whack if I were to see activity going on that could hurt another child, be it on the team my child plays for OR the other team and the people in charge (officials) not doing anything to stop it! I do agree with you though that some adults need to be more mature when attending their children's ballgames. Sometimes you gotta just know when to shut your mouth!!!

A little booing never hurt anyone. Booing kids under high school age is something different.

This is a "under high school" age subject we are talkin about, well I know that is what I am referring to...... I guess we should have stated that.. BUT.. seeing as its concerning Mullins... ???? LOLOL....

Beleive it or not it is good to be booed at a game. If they want something bad enough they will work for it. Thats life they better get use to it.

Adults should be more mature but high school kids should be able to deal with it.

I had a mom throw a pop bottle at me when I was walking on the away side bleachers. It wasn't even like an emotional game!

Booing a team during the game is fine by me, but heckling individual players or yelling out personal comments should not be tolerated.
Two instances come to my mind at this moment:
1) We were playing Somerset in a tournament game one year, and during our warmups we (the linemen) kept getting heckled by some Somerset fans. It wasn't just your standard "you suck" comments. Some of them new our names, others were called out by their number and some personal comments were screamed from across the stadium. That just made our win that much better knowing we shut those guys up.
2) My junior year I suffered a season-ending knee injury (tore my LCL completely off the bone and cracked my femur). I tried to sit on the sidelines for the rest of the game but the doctor told me that it was looking bad and I needed to go on and get to the hospital. So with the help of two other guys, I walked/hobbled back to the locker room to take off my gear. Just as I neared the doors to the locker room, a Belfry fan made a comment that was something to the extent of "yeah, we showed you, we kicked your ***." - Given that I was under painkillers I continued on and found the humor in his statement. This guy wasn't even playing in the game, yet he is taking credit for my injury, which was a fluke? Nevertheless, I underwent surgery and came back the next year to play the full season - gained recognition as honorable mention all-state and was awarded the Blake Vanhoose Outstanding Courage Award.

Ya some fans just get out of control, they need to remember it is just a game. Win or lose, the world still turns. No offense to any Belfry fans, but some of them get out of hand, it is the select few that give a whole fan base a bad name

How do we teach our children good sportsmanship if immature parents behave with this kind of bad sportsmanship?

I have watched high school football in three states, Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. The parent thing is pretty much the same, every parent thinks or wants their child to be the star and if they are not then......you know the story. Unfortunately, this not only hurts their child but it can disrupt a whole TEAM. Football is a team sport and each kid down to the last Freshman has their role. You are only as good as your weakest link. BTW, Indiana and Ohio fans take it to another level.

That is definitely true. A lot of parents think that their kid is headed straight for the NFL, and they would be getting a football scholarship to Alabama or Notre Dame if only that idiot coach would give him the ball every play...

What in the world is wrong with people these days. Everybody is afraid of hurting someone's feelings. BOOOO HOOOO!!!! Get over it! Life is hard, don't make it out to be a cream puff life for kids and lead them to think life is easy as pie. Guys, its a dog eat dog world out here. High school sports teaches them to become competitve. When pushed, push back. Be wise on the battles out there and choose the one that wins your war!!!!! "Take the commandments out of the schools it offends someone, take them out of the court house it offends someone." WHERE DOES IT END???? You know us Americans have really gotten SOFT! We don't choose anything for ourselves anymore, we let someone else do it for us. IF YOU CAN"T TAKE A LITTLE HEAT AT A GAME DON'T PLAY!!!

I can agree with your statement to an extent, but I don't think we are talking about our run of the mill booing or criticisms here. When a parent, for example, throws something (i.e. a bottle) at a kid, that's ridiculous.
I agree that kids need to learn to take it, to some extent, but some of the parents need to learn to control themselves as well.

At a LITTLE LEAGUE game this week.
(watching a friends kid not my kids team)
A Dad yelled from the stands, you've been
taught better than that just cleat'em in the back when you get up!
I was in shock. I'm one of the PROUD MOMS if my kid had been playing
:ChairHit: is all I got to say.

WHY just Belfry being mentioned? I can personally tell you from my own experience that I can name 4 others off the top of my head that are FAR worse than Belfry ever dared to be. FAR WORSE!!!
AND... just for those who think I am again defending Belfry..... My son played for another school for 4+ years..... SO I do have insight from the other side of the fence!!

Good Lord now I would never boo another child, but Booing is the least of your worries. In the late 70's and early 80's when traveling with the Paintsville Tigers you had to be careful of getting shot in Elkhorn City, Rocks and what ever else they could find to throw in Harlan, and a crazed Mom sitting on the football on the 50 yard for over 10 minutes (once again in Elkhorn City) the police finally had to carry her off the field. Her son couldnt even get her to move. These are not hearsay, I was there, I was in elementary school and maybe 9th grade but boy do I remember them. So see there are much things worse than booing kids but people with class wouldnt do it anyway. Or I should say, shouldnt.
