Mr. Football Discussion
#31
If there was any doubt about who had the trophy wrapped up tonight ended all the discussion. Give it to Hergott from Beechwood! He marched Beechwood right down the field and scored the TD and then they went for two and he bought a bunch of time to then hit a receiver in the back of the end zone to seal the deal and be the one point difference that won the game!

After tonight, I'm all in on Hergott for Mr. Football

Not taking anything away from Hergott but he wasn't the best player on the field last night. Cline from West Carter should be Mr. Football.

Preston from JC is probably the most productive running back I’ve seen this year.

With all due respect to Leetavious Cline, because he is one helluva football player, the best player on the field last night was wearing #2 in red and white. 18-22 for roughly 290 yards and 3 TDs, and another 90 or so rushing for 2 TDs. The plays he made down the stretch were incredible!

hergott has had the best career out of my top 4 candidates.

Dixon missed some games last year but has been the most dominant player in football from last november up to last friday.

Preston has had a super season and a great career, but last year there was riley preece and others that sidelined his stardom.

If somerset would have won state this year or even made it out of district, i think he wins it from the UK commit to the game winning drive at state. However, the injury late in the year and the stats not looking too impressive (still good but not amazing), he should be out of the race unless the voters go for him.

Hergott has just been too efficient, and after watching the West Carter game where he got the win pretty much by himself as the defense let carter back in it after he had a 20-0 lead before halftime, i think it’s fair to say he’s the favorite.

I always wish the award will come to a mountain boy, but i just don’t think it’s the year.

Guys, Cline is great and may very well have had the best season of any player in 2A, but Mr. Football is a career award. Hergott and Sheron have been two of the best players in the state since their sophomore year. My vote would go to Hergott. Sheron had the bigger moments and more hype, but Hergott has had a better senior campaign which should push him over the edge.

Sophmore year advantage Hergott, culminated with the MVP in the 2018 Class A state title game. Junior year advantage Sheron, culminated by his MVP performance in the 2019 Class AA state title game. Senior year, advantage Hergott, he has not had one single game this year that could be classified as an off night, and his performances in the playoffs have been ridiculous.
In 3 games
Passing
35-42 for 611 yds and 8 TDs with 1 INT
Rushing
42 carries 469 yds and 7 TDs
Total offense
1,080 yds and 15 TDs
And his clutch plays in the 4th quarter in the semis when Beechwood twice fell behind by 7, and then the ridiculous 2 point play, are things that to me give him the edge over the others.

Sheron for Mr. Football

For a career, it’s Hergott. If you just go off of the 2020 season it’s Leetavious Cline.
#44
Cline has had a great season, but how is it better than Hergott’s? Beechwood played much better competition than West Carter, and head to head, while both had great games, Hergott had the bigger performance.

Why are people talking about a Mr. Football candidate from 2011?
