Here is the scoop on the ExpoCenter. One, they have changed management. They no longer want to guarantee the schools $50,000 to host the tournament there. They want the money and give the schools only a minimal amount. Schools in the 15th count on that money to help fund their athletic programs. Unless you have tried to budget athletic teams you have no clue how this money is revered by each school. Two, they no longer welcome the schools with open arms. Instead, they have done a lot to foster a negative persona around these events. Three, school administrators are tired of the complaints about, searches, concession prices, security not letting schools celebrate after winning, and some schools fans traveling long distances every year to same location. Another words, no rotation of the tournament from schools within the districts. This is the last year of for the current contract. The 15th region policy board (made up of reps from each school) will decide weather or not to renew the contract. There is a huge push not to renew from several schools. It's sort of like this past election year, Everyone is sick and tired of the staus quo. I would be shocked if this wasn't the last year in the Expo. KHSAA has final say, but it is very rare for them to buck a policy board. Especially, when the schools could present the Expo as an undue financial burden.

The money the City of Pikeville stands to lose if the 15th tournament is moved from the Expo would be huge! You would think the Expo brain-trust would be smarter than this but maybe not. I would think the money from the Pikeville restaurants and gas stations during the 15th rake in big money.
Is it really worth checking a player's gym bag and having them toss their Gatorade on the way in a good idea?

Pikeville was not the best team either. Betsy Layne & Johnson Central were probably the top 2.
