Its about oppression of human beings man. Sure they get their own fishing laws and casinos but the name Redskin is offensive. I'm saying one racist, skin color objectifying mascot. Not every N. Am. mascot, just one... redskins. If one native American is offended by this slur mascot it is offensive.

So it wasn't offensive back in 1920 when it was made up? So why should be offensive now? So you want to take away the right to vote for women and people of color too? Yeah 1920 was great for white people. Show some intelligence and empathy and understand it should be changed. I'm guessing there is a confederate flag on your barn roof?

And for Pirates getting offended... pirates. are. not. a. race..... do. you. un. der. stand????

Omg enough with political correctness.

Mascots are generally chosen for their courage, bravery, tenaciousness, etc. The Native American names are celebrating their qualities. Some people just look for things to be offended by. If you play for the "Devils" I don't think that means your school is promoting Satanism. Rebels celebrate a Southern fighting spirit but are not meant to denigrate black people or the abomination of slavery. There is a lot more important things in life to be offended about. I would be offended by a mascot like the Bluebirds (sorry Highlands fans). Could you be the "Fighting Bluebirds" at least? Washington could change their name to the Politicians but that might be more offensive than the Redskins.

Boys, at least you are not a Martin Purple flash.. Their mascot is named after a purple teletubby that likes to expose himself to the opposing team Confusednicker:

My wife went to Martin grade school and I get great joy of making fun of that mascot..

Ashland Tomcats. don't all cat lives matter? not just male cats. c mon show some love for the ***** cats.:biglmao:

There is too much political correctness these days you are all right. But that single mascot is offensive and should be changed. I think Pirates are safe. If it was any other minority it would be ridiculously protested and would have been changed in 1967. Go ahead and tell me that if there was Black mascot called the Black-skins that had a slave cartoon logo it would be all good and dandy. That is called a double standard and is BS.

And bluebirds was bluedevils back in the 1920s and they had to change it!!! ha

Shame for the birdies that they had to change. They could have at least went with the Blue Jays. They are kinda mean.

The difference here is that this is about civility to a race and culture, not just political correctness. The term PC is thrown up as a wall when you want to invalidate someones feelings based on your own feelings and beliefs. The heart of the matter is that in this conversation if a single person says this is offensive, then guess what it is offensive. No one person gets to decide what is offensive and what is not to another person.

And before I get slammed for the above comment, I do not find any of them personally offensive, my favorite baseball teams mascot is named Chief Wahoo. Just because I support that does not mean I have the right to invalidate the feelings of those who do not.

Yeah, I actually like the bluebird... and bluebirds are mean and will fight anything even way bigger than them... I thought it was kind of fitting for Highlands. This year though they are more friendly bluebirds... I think they need less tag.

Plus I HATE Duke so I'm glad there they aren't the blue devils.

Pulp Fiction Wrote:The Washington Redskins - NFL
The Cleveland Indians - MLB
The Atlanta Braves - MLB
The New Jersey Devils - NHL
The Chicago Blackhawks - NHL
Florida State Seminoles - College

These are the teams with nicknames or mascots who are getting the most attention due to be 'Politically Incorrect' because they could/might offend the Native American population. Some Native tribes have issued statements saying that they have no problem with sports teams like the ones mentioned above. Some TRIBES have said they feel the names/mascots are offensive.

And just incase you didn't know, the State of Oklahoma is a Choctaw phrase meaning "Red people"

So let's hear your opinions on this matter.
I wish teams would come up with even more incorrect names.

I would like to have a barn with a Confederate flag.

Are people from Middle East called White Trash?

Let's go all the way with this PC stuff! No animal, fowl, amphibians, insects, anything that walks it breathes. I mean come on, look at how many members of the feline family alone are getting ticked off. Give me a break people! Some people feel so guilty because the media sometime or another told you that you should be. When did we become this type of society....where everyone gets their feelings hurt so easily?
#57
For the record.... I have no problem with any team name or mascot.

I'm probably one of the most Un-PC people you will meet.

I was just bringing this up for conversation.

Dang, all this time I thought RedSkins was a bunch of sunburnt Yankees during spring break.

Trojans could raise an eyebrow where it did not 30 years ago.

When I was younger I thought that the Redskins were somehow associated with Red Man chewing tobacco.
Birdman I'll assume that this isn't your chaw of choice.
