It'll be interesting if they go with underachieving Dowdy, the new transfer kid or Adkins who everyone has been aware of for a few years now.

Not sure it's fair to call Tate underachieving , he don't call the plays , with the defense Ashland had last year add a really good offensive line and arguably the best running back in the state , I would say his role was to not lose the game not to go out and win them

I predict that 2016 Ashland will be much the same as 2015. They will finish second in the district, but will be out of the playoffs by the second week.
02-02-2016, 07:21 PM
their district will be Johnson central then everyone else will fight for second
02-02-2016, 08:29 PM
It will be a big challenge now, especially with Brown gone. Putting the right people in the right places will be a must.

Greenup will be a very good defensive team next year, Boyd co will be Boyd co
02-02-2016, 09:55 PM
Correct, Greenup is getting better each year. Coach Mullins has them going in the right direction. Word is, some of the middle school coaches from Ashland are getting coaching positions at Boyd and bringing players with them. If that is true, I hate it for our system.

I would encourage those that follow to research what they are being sold.

What happened with Brown?

I think they are being sold on the "big exposure and offers from several schools if you follow us" pitch. I have a feeling that some may even be paying for recruiting coordination. If so, I would caution those folks to do some independent research and make sure they are getting an acceptable value for their money.

All I know is that the coaches Boyd are getting are good. One has coached at the college level and all of them have played at the college level as well as the pro's. You can't have that kind of knowledge in your system and not use it.
Brown has had some issues with female students and supposedly that's what sent him to Spring Valley.

i know Boyd co got some kids from ck this past year and they are middle school age. Maybe they are building a dynasty lol

I know that Boyd county ran off a kid that's 6' 300 and was a brute and was only in 6th grade

Is he coming to Ashland, hopefully?
02-05-2016, 05:12 PM
I don't think Dowdy is capable of making the throws you need to make at the varsity level. That being said, idk much about thes middle school guys but hopefully something changes out at Boyd. It's not even a rivalry for us anymore.
02-07-2016, 08:38 PM
No he won't be coming to Ashland. I've tried to talk the kids family in moving him to Ashland..

As I understand it, the same thing happened at Paintsville with Braxton and a small class A school can't afford to have a loss like that as a three sport player

Still couldn't get past Northern KY. Shared Region Semi-Finalist with Greenup

If we don't figure out what to do with our offense and defense, we may not even beat Greenup. I strongly hope I'm wrong.

How long is Boyd County going to put up with Gilliam without improvement?

Lets make sure we keep this thread about Ashland. I know that I brought up the issue of coaches going there, but we can discuss BC on another thread.

Ive heard Dowdy moves to WR. Ratliff will be QB. A-ROC a Junior and Robinson a Sophomore along with Roberts a Senior will be in the backfield.

What does Ashland have on the OL? DL? LBs? All strong points last year. What do they return?

Lost everything. Defensive front as well as offensive front. From what I remember, all we have coming back at LB is Coburn. He played their on occasion throughout the season. Other than that, we are starting from scratch.

How was spring practice? Wasn't able to attend. What did they look like?

Went by their watched for 15 minutes or so weren't doing much while I was their. They lost a lot from last year but Burgess and Love are 2 OL off the top of my head that were starters and or played a lot and return. Hopefully can run by tonight and watch.

Thanks, T-CATS. Didn't see any skill positions? Wonder who was doing what.
