David School has a point. I think it's about time for AC to get rid of that flag. It is part of history and should be just that, history! I also thought the newspaper could have used better language when referring to African Americans. Black is not a race it's a color!

1. I believe the Civil War was begun over "States Rights" issues. (but ask J.R. VanHoose because he knows way more about the CW than anyone on BGR)
2. Was someone trying to imply that Mickey Mouse and Mickey McGuire are one and the same?
3. Was someone trying to imply that Ned Pillarsdorf resembles a St. Bernard?
4. I believe someone was just trying to make an analogy somewhere in this thread and others have taken the ball and run with it!
5. If ER chose to use the Warrior as their mascot, I am sure it was because they respected the Native Americans rather than trying to poke fun @ them. I would say this is sorta how AC came by its mascot as well.
6. Maybe this was something to bring out more of a crowd when they do play ball.

8. The folks from AC must have respected the traits of the Rebels, in that, they were not afraid to fight for what they believed in and so forth..... I doubt very seriously if there is one single person in the AC school district, who upholds any of the tertiary issues of the Civil War.
9. This would make a heck of a tee-shirt fundraiser though!!!! The possibilities of slogans are limitless!

I think this is ridiculous. That's funny that Ole Miss is 65% African American and 80% of their athletes are African American and none of them have a problem with the ENTIRE football stadium waving confederate flags during home games. I'm sure when whoever it was that came up with the Rebel mascot, they didn't do it to degrade African Americans.

i play for david and i think its stupid why were not playin ac i mean i love the confederate flag like most ppl in eastern ky do i dont see the big deal in it....just because we have a black player on our team who doesn't act black at all he listens to lynyrd skynyrd and everything....so since we cant play them i guess pikeville cant either cuz they have two black players which im good friends with

The newspaper said that all of Davids team decided not to play them. Are you saying you changed your mind about it, or was their even a vote about it?

Sounds like a couple of lawyer buddies making a pact together. School Board member, lawyer and village idiot Mickey McGuire persuades fellow lawyer and David School head coach Ned Pillersdorf to not play Allen Central after that civil rights group came to the county this week saying schools with black students shouldn't be made to play AC.

Absolutely ridiculous. They've already signed a contract to play and they have to honor it.

The sad part is that McGuire, who is an outgoing member of the board and didn't bother to attend this weeks meeting, left this mess for the rest to cleanup as an "up yours" gift.

This needs to be let go before it gets even more out of hand.

Seriously, David signed the contract to play AC and as far as I can remember AC has had a confederate mascot and flag. So my question is, did David just happen to figure this out (it isn't like they aren't from the same place)?????hh:

Now as to whether AC should have a confederate mascot, that is their personal choice, but it has absolutely nothing to do with whether David should play them in basketball (since David agreed to play them knowing that they were the Rebels) and it has nothing to do with basketball period!!

Nice post this is absolutly pothetic. They've been a school since what 72' or 74'. and here we are 30+ years later and now its a problem, Absolutly pothetic..anyway more practice time for the rebels they really didn't need this game anyway.
