15th region banners at the Expo Center
#31
Pulp Fiction Wrote:Why doesn't the Piarist Knights have a banner up?

They will probably have one shortly
#32
The two new teams from Lawrence County are the Webbville Blue Devils and Clifford (either Chargers or Pirates). I do not know the other team from Floyd County. Were there any other high school teams in Magoffin County besides Salyersville?
#33
They will be able to add the Webbville Blue Devils and Clifford Chargers or Pirates next year to Lawrence.
#34
I wonder if any other region around the state does this. It is unique.
#35
Did Magoffin County or Salyersville have 1 high school in their county's history? They have always been in the 15th Region, correct?
#36
Salyersville changed the name to Magoffin County. Were there any other schools that consolidated with Salyersville to make Magoffin County? Were these the two high schools in county history?
#37
I think it is awesome to have these smaller schools recognized. Even though some of them may have never won a district, region, or state, they are still an important part of history. It was the "golden age" of basketball that we will never see again.
#38
25 bonus points for anybody that can put all the schools that have been consolidated in to the proper current school...

(Example)

Meade Memorial & Flat Gap & Oil Springs & Jennys Creek & Van Lear = Johnson Central
Dorton & Virgie = Shelby Valley
Mullins & Johns Creek = Pike County Central
Feds Creek & Elkhorn City & Millard = East Ridge
Inez & Warfield = Sheldon Clark
Louisa & Blaine = Lawrence County

What would be cool next year....

If the Expo Center staff would put the banners in order by County... then by the defunct schools in order leading up to the current school that were consolidated to make X school.

I love mountain basketball!!!!!

pikevilleout Wrote:From what I was told by Kevin Garris and they also mentioned it Saturday at the draw there is 3 teams that will be added to the banners next year 2 from Lawrence Co and I believe 1 from Floyd Co. If I am not mistaken.

I did not realize the Van Lear mascot was Bank Mules until tonight at the games.
I also love the banners shows a lot of school history and a proud tradition and from what I have heard and seen we are the only region to hang banners like this at our regional tournament.

I agree. I think it would be nice to see the corresponding banners at each school they consolidated to.

Id like to see the "current school" banners feature each current schools regional and maybe even with Sv and Paintsville state championship seasons

I agree with this. For example I would love to see a Feds Creek, Millard, Elkhorn, and even a Hellier banner hanging at East Ridge. I've seen it at Shelby Valley how they have the history of Dorton and Vigie. I would love to see other schools follow.

As a former hellcat I can understand why teams would be scared coming to hellier 10 miles up the creek no stores or nothing open past 5pm no street lights around it got dark in hurry up there. Loved that small school atmosphere everybody knew everybody.

Despite the fact that was 30 or so years before I was born, I knew that. But I figured that since it wasn't actually Sheldon Clark that won them, idk if Id add them.

Just because that school got consolidated doesn't mean their history should be forgotten.

Inez has a banner hanging in the Expo Center..... they could put their 2 state championship seasons on their banner.
#59
Past state champions banners would be nice. Also, teams that finished in 3rd place back when consolation games were played.

Maybe even a Mr & Mrs Basketball banner since the first honoree of each award hails from the 15th Region.
#60
Who would a person need to talk to about getting some banners added for next season....

Whoever had the brain storm of putting up the banners is a genius.
