13th Region summer games
#31
Diet Pepsi....your right it is no Big Deal THAT WHITLEY WON.... I just don't like people who get on this site and put down teams with a BIG LIE!!! I TRUST MY SOURCE.....WHO WAS THERE....... AND WATCHED........ THE WHOLE GAME!!! WHILE WERE ON THE SUBJECT WHITLEY WENT UNDEFEATED BOTH DAYS IN SOMERSET! They seem to be adjusting well to the new coaches. SO NOW GO AHEAD AND TELL ME I'M WRONG AGAIN....I will never believe you anyway. So Wayne Co. lovers get over it....you LOST!!!:Sad04: EVEN WITH THAT SUPER DUPER BIG GIRL YOU KEEP QUACKING ABOUT. I'm sure her teammates would disagree with you that she played all by herself and did all their scoring, ball handling and rebounding. Confusedilly:

wizzard I don't know about anyone else but im no Wayne fan. Just saying what I was told.
#33
Bell looks pretty good this summer!
#34
Lady Cats are now 15-0 with wins over Powell and Scott today at LMU.
#35
I think they are playing at South Laurel today... I'm planning on going to watch those games if they are. The only thing I didn't like about them last year was they are very reliant on the 2-2-1 1/2 and 3/4 court press. If that is not working they became lost on defense. If they have corrected that then they are for sure the favorites. Whitley would be my next favorite since Coach Parsons is leaving us.

Bell looked good even without Morris today! They defeated Whitley who was without Craig and maybe one or two more, and an athletic Danville team. I was impressed all the way around with them. South looked bad against Danville! North struggled some but showed some promise. They struggled against Whitley's pressure! That will be helped when they get the young guard back that was out last year. Whitley seemed to be still finding their way and I fully expect them to start to gel sometime during season! I just hope injuries doesn't play a part for them this year! It will be interesting what happens between them and my Redhounds in district this year. I heard even more rumors of Possible corbin transfers depending on who they hire for coach. I hope no one leaves us!

Whitley needs some transfers to beat Bell.

I wouldn't say that! I do think that Bell has to be the favorite from the improvement that I have seen.

From what i understand, it was pretty much Whitleys JV team.

I wouldn't call Brandi Smith, Johnson, and Dingess JV. It is summer and neither team is playing like it is in season. I always find it hard to bet against Brandi Smith in a close game when it counts. I do think that those will be the top two talented teams but Bell is playing a little better right now in summer. However, that's just my opinion! As we are winding down summer ball does anyone want to take a crack at a top 10?

The Bell County Lady Cats are now Varsity 16-1 with a Loss to Whitley and a Win over Danville Thursday!!! GO LADY CATS!!!!!

But Whitley has a lot more than just those three players.
With almost a full team, they beat Bell, who hadnt been beat.

If Corbin has some girls transfer, they had better be talking to 4 or 5 good players who have left the program and try to get them back out.

I noticed that last year's team did not have any players in the senior class that were starters in middle school still playing. There were several good players in that grade, guess they just decided to play other sports.

Off topic but it would be a shame for girls to transfer for the reason of the coach leaving to better herself. The girls should stay and make the best of it and show some loyalty to the school and the program.

Sadly this is common place now, players leave and have no loyalty to their schools or the players who they have played with some any number of years. My advice is to stay put and be a team player.

Back on topic.....

I think the 13th is going to be very competitive this coming season. There could be as many as four or five teams that could make a serious run at the crown. There are some very good teams that are going to be in flux, and that makes it tough sometimes, so I would have to think that Bell could be the early favorite, of course they have the best single player in the region and that does not hurt. I don't put a lot of weight on summer games, coaches try combinations on the floor that they would never use in the season. Records don't mean as much to me as individual play and how individual players react in certain situations. I think coaches are looking more that too. Records are important, you don't want to get beat down, but don't put tooo much credence on the records.

I wouldnt mind seeing the Wilson twins leave for a different team in the same county

If im not mistaken, they grew up in the county system anyways. I could be wrong, but i thought they attended Whitley for several years.

Looks like some people are having some trouble with the facts!

Check out the article by Les Dixon in the Corbin Times Tribune.

Lady Colonels are looking good Whitley County coach Donnie Jones seems to have his Lady Colonels on a roll this summer. Whitley County picked up a big win Thursday against one of the top teams entering the 2013-14 season — the Bell County Lady Bobcats. The Lady Bobcats entered Thursday’s match-up with Whitley County with a 14-0 record after picking up wins over Harlan County (50-29), South Laurel (39-20), Barbourville (54-34) and the Lady Colonels on June 4, 55-34. But Whitley County returned the favor Thursday by handing Bell County its first loss of the summer, winning, 65-51. The 13th Region is going to be fun on the girls’ side of things during the upcoming season with teams such as Bell County, Corbin, Whitley County and Clay County dueling it out on the hard wood. - See more at: http://thetimestribune.com/sports/x18856...sztk6.dpuf

Morris is the only player in the 13th right now that will play D1. The kid Green will be next D1 player. Everyone else is NAIA.

Bell is by far the best team. Summer ball means nothing.
#48
Lex Dixon also knows nothing about basketball. He should be writing for Better Homes and Garden.

I guess time will tell won't it. I will enjoy watching next season to see if you are right.....a lot can happen between now and then. I agree with your Les comment...but the facts are correct in this case.

People think they sound smart when they do the "summer ball means nothing" line.
You can almost always get a very good idea how the following season is going to go by watching summer basketball.
The top five last summer were Whitley, Clay, HCHS, Corbin and Bell. The top five at the end of the year were Corbin, Bell, Whitley, HCHS and Clay.

Bell brings back four starters. Corbin brings back four starters. Whitley brings back four starters. I'd probably pick Bell too, but no one is "by far" the best team.

I wonder why they play if it means nothing...

Whitley beat Bell without Morris. I sure would not count that as much if I were Whitley.
#53
^
Bell was suppose to beat Corbin in the finals as well.
#54
That was last year Gut. How long did Corbin last? Last time I checked Marion County went 39-0 and won state tourney. Corbin and Whitley both suck this year. Bell is the pride of the 13th region. Get on board boys, the ride is going to be sweet. Morris will end up at Kentucky or Louisville and the mountains will be abuzz of a mountain kid going big time.

Whatever you say....

Bell county 48 north Hardin 41 final from Lindsey Wilson college. Lady cats are 16-1 on the summer
#57
Bell County Lady Cats R now 19-1 with wins over North Hardin, South Oldham, and Casey County. WAY TO GO LADIES. VERY PROUD OF THE CATS!!!!!!!
#58
Bell finishes 20-1 I think. Only loss was to Whitley. Bell was without Morris for that game. What was everyone else record?

lillianhidgepork Wrote:Bell finishes 20-1 I think. Only loss was to Whitley. Bell was without Morris for that game. What was everyone else record?

When Whitley was with there full lineup they went undefeated.
Overall, lost 3 or 4 games i believe.

Corbin onl lost 4 or 5 i believe.

It was summer. It doesn't matter.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I know Harlan County was 24-6. The losses were to Leslie twice, Corbin, Bell, Whitley and Letcher.
Bell had the best summer, from what I saw, but Whitley wasn't that far behind. Corbin will have a transition with a new coach but has all of its key players back. Harlan County has a very good backcourt and will be solid. I didn't see Clay but they still have enough talent to be dangerous.
