Lack of Coaching Skill made up for by recruiting ability

ballstar Wrote:I agree with what ur saying but ky has a ton of young talent in this state and in eastern ky RIGHT NOW. In the past not so much. I cant tell u about down the road because we cant see into the future. Did anyone know that Ky alone had 10 kids invited to the espn top 100 camp for the class of 2014. This is UNHEARD of for KY or most other states. I guess maybe some of these kids just want to play with other great players and sure aint nothing wrong with that. Great players dont really care if the coach is a great coach they just want a coach that can get them to the next level. Just look at UK and coach cal. Great recruiter because he gets kids PAID, we have yet to see him win the big one yet though. But still every yr great young players cant wait to step into his program because they are one step closer to gettn paid. Sorry i got off my main point, lol. My point is that im sure some recruiting is taking place its just no diff whether its local or long distance. ONB, me and u have had this discussion b4 and we both know that its really not diff. Maybe easier to stomach if its local kids but not diff.

I'll have to agree with you on that.

Many of the kids who Calipari gets at UK he gets because these kids believe he can get their draft potential at its max and put them in the NBA. Cal gets the best and gets them paid.

I am not comparing Cal and Rhodes but many of these kids do want to play for Rhodes because he does have connections, which we all know he does, and these connections can get these kids looked at by certain Colleges and University. Am I saying he didn't recruit them, no I am not, but it does help when you are a good basketball player and your coach played professionally, and was an assistant coach at several University's. Rhodes will get these new boys looks, he will even get some of these other boys looks, not by UK or Duke but like NAIA. I am sure when many of these role players are Juniors and Seniors that Rhodes can defiantly get a NAIA school to look at them. But still, the main reason why I believe Cordia is getting such new players is because of Rhodes and his connections.

I agree!!! This is what ive been trying to say since these recruiting threads started!!! I know this is HS bball but the end result of all the hardwork is getting a free education. Thats the most important thing these parents are looking for, nothing more. Parents put alot of time and money into their children and the least they should get from it is their child get a free education. I know some parents think their kids can play at UK and they could barely play at ALC!! Thats fine, hopefully some of these college coaches coming to eky will wake them up. If a college coach comes to watch a certain kid they may also see someone else that they or one of their friends at another college can use. This is what eastern ky has been lacking for alot of years. Its the high school coaches JOB to help these kids get looks, its the kids JOB to perform while they are looking. The parents need to let the kids know that its ok to play at places like Alice Lloyd and Union. Its about gettn a free education. If the parents will do this u will see alot more of local kids playing college bball.

Wall 2 Wall you might want to check and see how many eastern KY boys have gone to major colleges and come home. It is not always the coaches not promoting the players, eastern ky players have a reputation of not sticking it out at the next level. Example Todd May was starting at KY and finished at Pikeville. Tony Pietrowski had a ride to LSU, but did not stay and that is just a few. You might say HOME BOYS!!

I agree with you on this point. Many eky boys in the past didn't make it. Either it was family issues or being homesick, many of them came back near home.

Denny Fugate played his freshman year at Virginia Tech and ended up transferring to EKU. Shannon Hoskins was at South Carolina and left.

I think thats why the coach and parents should get more involved in the choice of school and the reasons their choosing that particular school. You want to find a school that is a good "fit" for the player/student. Whether thats playing time their looking for or its a certain career choice their looking for. The parents and coaches should look at all aspects of that college and know the kid has #1) a great chance of playing early, #2) Can get the degree they are looking for, and #3) they are gonna be able to survive college life at that particular school. Its always important for a coach/parent to be realistic with their players/child so that bad decisions arent made when choosing a college. I think we would see alot less of this if ppl did it this way. Example: Ben Bowling chose Tulane Unverisity I think everyone in eky knew it was a bad choice and he problem wouldnt make it there long. I mean, come on its basically downtown Bourbon street. THINK PPL!!!!!!

That is just wrong to say about me. They let me out into the commons area to use my "free" time to get on the internet and give heck to all of you east Kentucky basketball fans every day before I am force to take my meds and watch a dvd of an Alan Hatcher coached game so that I can go to sleep easier.:hilarious:

So smart, he got the easiest draw in the state tournament against Wayne County and blew it. He really had his "BIGS" ready. Neither one of those boys were EVER in shape the entire year. And the were tooooo SOFT!

Typical PCC fan they can't give Coach Woods from Wayne County the credit for being prepared to win, instead blame it on a bad game. Yeah those bigs where in shape, only if you could walk the ball down the court and limit the game to 30 possessions. lol!!!! :hilarious:

Woods did have his players prepared and had a good game plan, I give you that.

O bye the way how many teams have one the NCAA Division one tournament running the flex??

Yeah I guess I am an idiot. You have a guy 6'8-300 and a guy 6'6-250 and cant beat a guy down low on the blocks that is 5'11 . Kyle Huff was the only guy on the team with any intestinal fortitude down low that game. Beverly played great as always. I dont know the deal with the big guys from PCC but they are oh so soft. Hopefully someone will get some pads and beat little brother to death this year and teach him how to work in the paint with and without the ball. You cant dunk it every time. Sometimes you have to earn your points beating and banging. Maybe Coach Mullins can whip the bigs into shape this year.

the wayne county game must of been the only one you watched the whole year!

I watched them all son. The little Offensive Lineman from Wayne County pushed big brothers all over the floor in the "game that mattered the most."
#57
And one more thing. I love those boys and I hope Dalton gets mad when he reads this and starts working harder and harder. I just dont feel like they were ever in shape last year. Anyone can run, but can anyone run and beat and bang? Not as easy to do for the big guys. Hope nothing but the best for the Commodores.
