LexCath at Bell Co
#31
There will be too much Bolin to Bush. Good luck to Bell County but I think LexCath is going to be a lot better than people think this year.

It should be interesting to see who wins the battle. What I like for Bell is knowing they should be able to run the football. Anytime you're able to control the tempo it plays in your favor. However I do realize LC may have the upper hand on Bell because of experience. It should be an entertaining game to watch.

I agree. I am assuming this game is Aug. 19? What a way to start the season. Boyle/Highlands and Bell/LexCath. Wow.

I wonder with Davenport's speed and ability to run if Bell will actually score fast on LC instead of controlling the tempo. That possibility is there and LexCath is no slouch when it comes to controlling the tempo and the clock. The winner of this game will likel have to make a defensive stand late in the game to preserve the win. Seeing as how everyone seems to think that the defenses will be subpar in some aspect it is interesting which defense can bend but not break. I am intrigued to see the outcome of this game. For obvious reasons of course. Lots of good storylines developing for this game.

Yeah it's Aug. 19.
That will be a heck of a game with Boyle and Highlands. I'd like to see that one. I picked Highlands to win this early match up. The probable game later that year I won't be so quick to take Highlands.
With the tempo, I guess if Davenport breaks loose he has to go on in for the score.lol Hard to tell him to stop short just to control tempo.
I feel good about Bell's defense later on. They just need to gain some experience. They'll have their hands full with Bolin. From everything I've read and seen on him, he's really good.

As a Rebel fan, there have been very few kids that have scared me like Kyle Bolin does. Maybe Kelvin Turner from Danville and that's it. Curtis Pulley didn't scare me the way Bolin does. Bolin is the real deal. I look forward to watching him progress. His performance after LexCath opened up the playbook on us last November was eye opening. What he didn't do with his arm he did with his legs. 3rd and 9 receivers covered....no problem, I'll run for 15 yard then. I talked to a Rebel and he told me Bolin is the best qb he has faced. He said he can always figure out where a qb is going to throw the ball but that he never figured out where Bolin was going to throw it. He and Bush had their way with our secondary. Bush made one of the best catches I have seen last November. Yes. I am scared of Kyle Bolin.

After seeing Bolin I can't wait to see Towles. If Towles is better than Bolin then I want to see it.

I think Bell has a chance if they control the ball but the above is a crazy prediction.

wonder how our qb will be?

Cory Oslonian will be good. We have some great backs this year in Davenport, Collett, Polly.

I agree with pretty much everything you just said. Kyle Bolin is legit. I can't wait to see him reach his full potential one day, but at the same time, I think I can wait.

I'll take Lexington Catholic in this one. I believe that it's going to be a great game, great atmosphere. I just wish I could watch two games at once.

Lex Cath has had better QBS i'm not taking anything away from Bolin he's as good as advertised, they had a QB back in the late 90's i think his name was Ryan Neff not positive about the name, but pretty sure.he was as good a passer as Bolin, but a much better runner and scrambler.he was one of the best QBS i've seen at the high school level.I believe he went to west point when he graduated.this kid was phenominal.
#44
Its more like Davenport vs Bolin in this one,6 to 5 in favor of Davenport,I look for a score in the high 30's to low 40's. Good luck, but I think Bell will end up on top.
#45
Bell County wins by 2 TDs!!!
#46
This is a very very hard game to call right now. Bell is young, but Cath is experienced. Its early in the year so maybe the experience prevails? I wish to think not, so i'm going Bell 21 Cath 14.
#47
Bell 31-28. Go CATS!!!!
#48
How is bell looking thus far?
#49
How similar is LexCath to the last couple of years teams?
Im sure Bolin has gotten better and all, however, Ive got to see both teams for the past two years.
If Lex Cath has as much problem stopping the run as they did against Whitley, it doesnt matter how much they score because Bell will every time they get the ball if there defense hasnt improved.
Whitley had the lead in both games against Lex Cath and in the 4th qtr of both i believe, or atleast the game at Lex Cath and depth really hurt Whitley against the athletes of LexCath and IMO let both games slip away, but Whitley never had a shot against Bell, it was over from play one.
I know this is a new year and yada yada but if Lex Cath hasnt found a way to stop the power style running offense that Bell runs with some counters and sweeps thrown in than it will be a bad day for the knights.
#50
I hear the Knights return 8 starters on offense and 9 on defense. So, an inexperienced team last year is an experienced team this year. It makes a big difference. If Bell falls behind early (they can't play the keep the ball away), do they have the ability to come from behind. Didn't Bell lose a lot from last year, including their coach? Good Luck to both teams!

I know we are inexperienced this year and that in my mind plays a huge part in a teams success. However, I'll take the run game over the passing game any day when it comes down to it. I don't question our ability to score. I question how we handle Lex Cath on the defensive side. I worry about them having the ball last with the chance to win. Can we step up and stop their potent offense? I'm confident that our coaches will do what it takes to have these boys prepared but end the end, it's up to them to step up and do it. I guess we'll see.

I think LexCath will be much better at stopping the run this year because of two reasons and both of them have to do with their defense of their d-line. The first is that instead of them being sophomores going up against seniors they will be juniors now and be able to be more able to phisically compete. The second reason is our stud noseguard Oscar Melendez is finally healthy. He is 6-3 290 and can move. He was hurt for all but the Boyle County playoff game last season. If he is not double teamed he will live in Bell's backfield.
Also since Bell depends heavily on the run I think it would be easier for LexCath to run away with this one than it would for Bell to make it a blowout

Bell County will play 10 games against some no doubt stout competition. But in the back of their minds every time they step on the practice or game day field this fall - the question will be how do we contain Anthony Wales. If that is not the question, it should be. Because that is the question they will be asking if their season goes as expected. It's not looking ahead - it is planning advance strategy for a battle.

I don't see a blowout either way... That is the farthest thing from my mind. Now if Bell can win this game, that's a different story. But a blowout, I just don't see that at all.

Ive not heard anything on the Melendez kid. Sounds like pretty good size, is he being looked at by anyone?
As far as that goes though, i know the Bell offense better than probably anyone who isnt a Bell fan and i cant bet you money the guard hes lined up on will be blocking him along with the center double teaming him and blocking backside if he turns out to be much of a threat. I see where your coming from as far as the kids being older, but have they ever seen an offense that physical other than Whitley who is not as physical as bell?
One thing about this game is no matter what Lex Cath does, this game is getting played on log mountain. For the first game of the year i expect to see a lot of the Lex Cath kids a little shell shocked, especially if Davenport breaks open a big run early. IMO i think Bell has a better chance of running away with it then Lex Cath does and i could be wrong, but being one of the few that have seen both teams play the past couple of years it seems to me Bell will overmatch Lex Cath in many aspects of the game, and as long as Bell can defend the pass well enough and contain Bolin, they should have no trouble getting the win.

Let us stop sugar coating this....we lost a ton of defensive players to grad. Our strength has always been def. We have a lot to prove on that side of the ball. Our passing game is not what it was...period. We are the underdog here. If Catholic comes in here and runs a short yardage def. all night we may break a few , but it could also be a long night. Tuff way to start ....but I like it. I have a lot of respect for opening up with a top team. No matter what the outcome. Good luck Bobcats.

You have a lot of assumptions based into your analysis IMO.

1) Lex Cath saw Boyle's offense last year, twice. Trust me, they have seen a line execute, backs like Cook and Cox so these returning kids have seen a physical team.

2) Bell lost way more starters than the Knights but you seem to confuse last year's Bobcat team with what will be on the field to start this years.

3) Bell's pass defense has rarely seen a passing game like Lex Cath will bring. That is the X Factor many aren't factoring in.

I respect the Bobcat program and think it will hinge on ball control for the Bobcats. They have to keep the ball out of Bolin's hands and grind it out IMO to beat the Knights. I think they can do that but don't see it as a blowout at any point.

Great points Hatz! I agree that ball control is the key to Bell's succes against Lex Cath.

IMO this years Lexington Catholic team will not be shell shocked to be playing on the road. With all the starters LC has returning They have already played plenty of big games on the road at Trinity, St. X, and Boyle. I can see Bell pulling this game out, but IMO it will not be easy. I would really like to come down and watch this game to see how LC looks.
