lcgrad2002 Wrote:I personally wish this game was played at the end of the year so we could see an even better game, but this should be one of the best opening matchups of the season. Ashland does have more to choose from as far as depth goes but usually when these two meet it is a blowout depending on who the home team is. I will take the Bulldogs in a defensive game.

LC 21

APB- 14

IMO this will be a heck of a game. Ashland is tradionally a slow starter. It seems they get better as the season progresses. Take that and the fact that I believe this game will be played in Lawrence Co. As stated in a earlier post. The dawgs haven't lost a home game in two years. I don't know this to be a fact. But I guess this person knew what he was talking about. Don't we all???:lmao: As for who I think will win this game. I'll let everyone know a few days before game time. After I see who's who. And who's healthier. ect.

LC rolls, we havn't lost at home in a long time and i see no signs of stopping this season.

Is something wrong with Tyler Combs's knee, is he having knee surgery? I just learned about this from a parent while sittin in Dees yesterday. I hope this isn't true as we need him on the O-line this season

Hey guys! Good to see you all talking about football and the TCats. Are the dawgs returning a lot this year? I was thinking you all will have about the same number of seniors this year as you had last season.
#39
Yeah the Bulldogs lost a lot but they return a lot as well. They return their qb, running back, fullback, some of their lineman and add a few younger guys with talent in there and i think the offense will be fine. To me the defense is going to be the staple of this team under new head coach Joey Cecil. Cecil is one of the few that has hung around this LC program through the worst of times and by talking to him yesterday very eager to get going. The Bulldogs have many guys capable and I stress the word capable of becoming big time players. A few kids like Derek Ferguson, Lance Clay, Caleb Bentley, Skyler Salyer to name a few. If Cecil can get these kids to believe in themselves like Salmons did then they should be fine. The defense returns a lot to the table and should be very fun to watch.

Whenever these two schools meet up whether on the gridiron, the hardwood, or the diamond it always seems like an intense game with alot of passion. It gives me the feeling of the country boys versus the city boys. Ashland and Lawrence both have their stakes to fame and rightfully so. These two schools have won tons of games during the football seasons and always compete at the highest level. Should be a great atmosphere for the opening game in Louisa in August.

What does Ashland return this season, what are some of their strengths and weaknesses?

They return their senior qb, he has a lot of experience being a 4 year starter, two senior wide receivers, pretty much the whole backfield with the only loss being Rogers who was unfortunately hurt the last half of last season. All the defensive secondary and linebackers are back and all the linemen have been starters at one time or another last year. You never know until the ball is snapped but it looks ok going in.

Don't know what to expect out of LC this year. They return some talented players but lose a lot on the line. For LC to have success against Paul Blazer their inexperienced line will need to play very good. It should be interesting to see what offense LC brings to the table this year. From what I hear Alan Short joined the coaching staff. IMO, he will be a good coach but what system do the Bulldogs run? Short was a very good QB back in the late 90's and knows how to run the belly as good as anyone. I don't know how Kiser would do running the belly. To many variables with LC this year.

used to live there, but moved 2yrs ago, but i still went and watched them play in BG, but in live in another state..

We roll by three scores in this game.
#46
If Ashland rolls by three td's in Louisa then they earn my respect.

Opening on the road is always tough and even tougher on a field where the Bulldogs have not loss in a couple of years. With that being stated, I feel more confident with the Tomcats Senior laden Lineup than with a team with less experience. I look for a close game of 6 to 8 points with Ashland winning. Opening games are hard to gauge considering Ashland and Lawrence County have not played in a few years.
#48
Yeah I agree with you Tomcat but I honestly think there is no way Ashland comes in and beats the Bulldogs by three touchdowns, not saying it can't be done just saying it shouldn't buy you never know that's why they play the games.

Can Ashland stop LC?
Can LC stop Ashland?

Questions to be answered soon....

The Bulldogs have a senior laden team as well with the key players at skill positions.

Proud Ram Fan 1168 Wrote:PHSForever you have a couple good points. One: Ashland has a very good coach in Leon Hart. And the tomcats had to play very tough teams in the playoffs. {but thats when you play the better teams} Ashand may very well beat the dawgs. But we don't even know what these teams will bring to the field. Heck the tomcats may have two or three key injuries by the time they play LCHS. Or what if a key player or two has gotten in trouble and got kicked off the team! ect. ect. Alot of if's before this game is played. But I bet by the week that these two teams play we will all know about how good a game this will be. Good luck to both these teams. Both schools love their FOOTBALL!

To your point, I heard the injuries are already happening. I've seen reports that Caleb Bentley has a torn ACL, and bulldog4life said earlier on here that Tyler Combs has a knee injury. You never say never when it comes to football.

It will be a very good game.
Ill take LC
Dawgs haven't lost at home in two years roll on dawgs roll on :1:
#52
Dawgs got this one locked up!! We do not lose at home and I do not see any team on this schedule doing it this year. Ashland will have the best shot of beating us at home but only a shot as this game will be over at halftime in the dawgs favor. This has got to be the best coaching staff i have ever seen at lawrence county and history will be made!TongueirateSho

Anyone can beat anybody on any given night, get used to that. Lawrence will have a strong team with 14 returning seniors this year 6 of those being starters. Ashland usually has a big team with a lot of talent.

Who has the best match-ups? Both teams have great quarterbacks and gritty defenses, but who has the better of the lines?

I think either way this game is close.

Ashland will show up you can count on it. I think you are exactly right about the QBs. I'm not seeing the senior laden skill group you are talking about for Lawrence, if it's true about Bently's reported acl injury especially. I'm guessing Combs leadership and experience would be sorely missed up on the d and o lines too.
#55
I hate to hear about a player with injuries to their knees. Especially the ACL. I'm sure Caleb and Tyler have worked hard to excell on the field. It has to be a tremendous disappointment to have to watch from the sidelines and that would obviously be even harder your senior year. That is a knife in the hearts of their parents and family members too. Speedy recovery to you both.
#56
Gapman, Bentley is only a junior so he will return next season, and Combs is playing he is fine.

Man I hate to hear that. I hope these kids recover soon and can see some action. Rumor has it that one of the LC kids has or is going to sign with Marshall. If true thats awesome..

OK, that sounds a little better anyway. I know so many players that have had career ending knee injuries, I always hate to hear about them.

Ive had a chance to watch LC practice some this year and theyre looking really good. LC is a strong team. But everyone on here talking about Tyler Combs having surgery. That is false. He is fine and ready to play for that championship his senior year. Look out for Hayden Kiser this year as well I have a feeling this kid will be putting up big numbers this year. He has gotten stronger and faster over the past year. But my prediction is going to be a close game because Ashland is always a powerhouse. LC-21 Ashland-10

Kiser will have a big year, expect him to throw the ball a lot more and with success.
