You can argue players lacked effort.
You may cite early season conditioning.
You can blame grades.
You can say coaches erred.
You can say it was officiating.
You can say the other team played dirty.
You can say it was too muddy.
Or too hot.
Or too cold.

It the end. It doesn't matter. The score is the record. There are no asterisks. Nobody really cares about what could have been. Talk is cheap.
