Why is Basketball favored over Football in the Mountains?
#1
Feel free to disagree, as I'd love to learn that I'm wrong - but living in the Mountains of E. KY where I have coached football in grades 2-8 and now have a son playing HS I'd love to understand this one. Observations:
  • Many great athletes refuse to play football to focus on basketball but rarely the other way around. And many of those same athletes are under 6'3" and could really be great football players. Why put your eggs in one basket?
  • Game Attendance: When KC played Clay this year (televised) the stands were only 80% full. I have been to Grade School bball tournaments that fill a varsity gym. Why do communities in KY not get behind football by attending the games?

I realize the historical success of UK is a primary reason for all of this. I just wonder if there are not other reasons or if maybe I'm wrong?:thanks:
