So we would go in certain creeks around the area and seine crawdads to use for bait. What we would do is go as far as you could  to where you cant take a boat right when school lets out when it starts to get real hot and they start growling and fish in the center of the river with heavy weights and load the boat. Caught some big ones using that method. Done that for years.
That sounds like some fun right there! Those drums are tough and put up a fight.

That Cumberland River is one of the prettiest places on the face of the earth.  World class fishing.

Cumberland Falls was the first trip my wife and I took,  where we stayed overnight.  That's a special place to us both.

I believe I could live in that area and be just fine  Wink
I live beside Cumberland River, but haven't been fishing. I need some Crappie or Walleye, if you catch too many,
I would love to live near the Cumberland River.  For the fishing and relaxation.  Thats one of the most relaxing places I've been to.

Used to catch some walleye at Paintsville Lake. That was years back though.

I need to get up with that one buddy of mine.  Some of the crappie he caught in the Spring was around 15 inches long.  That's some serious slabs of meat right there! This time of the year is a good time to catch crappie.

One of my cousins fixed some trout that I took him in a smoker one time.  Man those things were good fixed like that!

One Night between Cumberland River and Laurel Lake: When I used to fish hard when I was younger, I went down one night to the Cumberland River setup up at some treetops, did a little fishing there for a couple of hours, crappie fishing, then on the way home, stopped at Laurel Lake, put in and fished at Holly Bay. Well, we always just idled really slow past the ramp and as you look up at the parking lot and could see the parking lot pole lights, we always anchored about 100 feet off the bank. There is a drop off right there. So, if you didn't get it right the anchor wouldn't touch bottom, so we always fished right there, anyways that night, we caught our limits and filled the coolers full quickly, it was just one of those nights, as quick as the corn, minnows, night crawlers, didn't matter what you were using, the bite was on. Couldn't get baited fast enough the fish was biting so fast. But trout fishing is what I did for years. We used to catch so many at Laurel that we would have community fish fry once a year and invite all the neighbors. Just good fellowship between neighbors back then. We would ice down the trout and early the next morning fillet them and put them in bags in the freezer. Great Memories. I havn't been in a while. But back then I did it like a job, if I had a spare minute, I was on the water. 3 or 4 days a week at least. We fished right in front of that pole light in front of the Parking lot every time. Thats where they are at.
Having a community fish fry,  that's awesome right there! I would love to take part in something like that.

Trout is one of my favorite fish to go after.  And the areas you just explained are what I consider a trout paradise.

Big Grin That's my fault Bull! I take the blame for this.

I can't have a conversation about anything to where it doesn't turn into fishing! It's always been this way with me  Big Grin

It doesn't matter what I'm talking about,  sports,  politics,  weather,  the government,  conspiracy theories,  school,  religion, etc. I'm somehow able to circle the conversation to fishing  Big Grin
