RPI is really a terrible way to determine home field
#48
You can only look at the RPI for each class, since you get premium points for playing up and penalty points for playing down in class. Class 1A and Class 2A has a great opportunity to schedule up than other classes, whereas 6A has no opportunities to schedule up.

Teams that can not get KY schools to play them (for example Johnson Central) or traditionally they play out of state schools (such as Trinity) the current RPI system is biased against playing out of state opponents (a WP of 0.500) and their out of state opponents opponents (give a WP of 0.500 vs actual). Plus no premium/penalty for playing up or down in class.

The Biggest Problem I see is that KHSAA put this RPI in place AFTER the majority of schools already had their schedules in place for 2019 and 2020 football seasons. This year and next year would have been good test years to see what needs to be tweaked, like addressing the out to state school WP.

If KHSAA is set with a RPI for seeding then they need to use RPI for seeding for the whole playoffs, not just the last 3 weeks.
