That light you saw at the end of the tunnel for Trump - it was a train about to roll over him. The Trump convention gave him what might charitably be considered a dead cat bounce. The DNC convention was not much better, but Trump's refusal to focus on Hillary and Obama while campaigning is fueling her rise in the polls. She is now up +6.8 in the Real Clear Politics average of polls. There has never been a worse Republican presidential candidate.

I'm no politician, but I believe even I would not fall for some of the things Trump has. If he would drop the reflexive responses, the media would not have so much to get frenzied about.

In saying that, the DNC was sad in comparison to the RNC, right up until the Khisr Khan moment. Khan was brought in to cast Trump in the worst possible light, and thanks to a complicit media he was successful. That does not alter certain constants. Khan was hired to do a politically correct hit job, and though Dems had to go back 12 years to find the acceptable man for the job, it worked anyway. He read scripted remarks off of a teleprompter, very likely doctored by rabid DNC chipmunks for maximum effect. And please, how often do people walk around with a copy of the US Constitution in their pocket? Not that there is the first word in it to define legal immigration.

In further irony, Mr Khan's son was killed by a radical Islamic extremist. Hillary, of whose foreign policy failings are yet ablaze, wants to get as many of them in here as she possibly can. And while Trump would let in the sane Muslim immigrants, he'd rather keep the jihadis out as would any person of reason. There was no there, there, but once media discovered they could inject themselves into the process, Presidential elections have become the stuff of theater.

A surrogate would have been the logical choice to make the response to Mr Khisr, and although Trump is likely sage enough to judge the true intentions of this world's leaders with regard to interaction with this nation, he continues to underestimate media resourcefulness and willingness to bend the facts in order to keep him out of the White House. We still have 94 days left before the election, there is time for stability to right the ship for Trump.
